The effect of thyroid application and fasting on 7α-hydroxylation of dehydroepiandrosterone in rat liver in vitro

Zusammenfassung Nach einer peroralen Thyroxingabe an weibliche Ratten wurde die 7-Hydroxylierung von Dehydroepiandrosteron in vitro in den Leberhomogenaten der satten sowie der hungrigen Tiere vermindert. Durch eine 36 h Hungerperiode wurde die 7-Hydroxylierung von DHA bei Kontrollen und ebenso bei thyroxinbehandelten Ratten signifikant erhöht.     

Identification of 3α, 17α, 21-trihydroxy-5α-pregnane (allotetrahydro-17α-hydroxy-cortexone) and 3α,21-dihydroxy-5α-pregnane (allo-tetrahydro-cortexone) in human urine

Résumé Le 3, 17, 21-trihydroxy 5-pregnane (allo-tétrahydro-17-hydroxy-cortexone) et le 3,21-dihydroxy 5-prégane (allo-tétrahydro-cortexone) ont été identifiés dans l'urine humaine. Ces composés avaient les mêmes migrations chromatographiques avant ou après acétylation ou oxydation que les respectifs stéroïdes de synthèse.     

Immunoelectrophoretic characteristics of plasma from rats with adjuvant arthritis

Zusammenfassung Das Plasma-protein unbehandelter und mit Hydrocortison behandelter Ratten wurde 21 Tage nach Adjuvantinjektion immunelektrophoretisch untersucht. Arthritische Ratten zeigten eine Zunahme von -Globulinen bei Abwesenheit oder Abnahme von -Globulinen. Ein plasma-immunelektrophoretischer Unterschied zwischen mit Hydrocortison behandelten Tieren und Kontrolltieren wurde nicht gefunden.     

Mannan from the extracellular surface ofCandida albicans Berkhout

Zusammenfassung Aus der Oberfläche der Zellmembranen vonCandida albicans Berkhout wurde ein Mannan isoliert, das ausd-Mannose aufgebaut ist. Durch Methylierung und anschliessende saure Hydrolyse wurde bewiesen, dass es sich um ein verzweigtes Mannan mit -1–2- und -1–6-Bindungen handelt.     

Conversion of 17α-hydroxypregnenolone to cortisol

Zusammenfassung Nebennierenschnitte von Ratten, Meerschweinchen und Menschen synthetisierten 17-Hydroxyprogesteron, 11-Deoxycortisol und Cortisol aus 17-Hydroxypregnenolon. Diese Verbindung, als Ausgangsprodukt für die Cortisolsynthese, ist ebenso wirksam wie pregnenolon. Die Umwandlung von 17-Hydroxypregnenolon in Dehydroepiandrosteron verläuft weniger vollkommen als zu 17-Hydroxycorticoiden.     

Synthese von Solanidin aus Demissidin

Summary The steroidal alkaloid solanidine (solanid-5-ene-3-ol, II) which occurs in the potato plantSolanum tuberosum L. has been synthesized from demissidine (5-solanidane-3-ol, I), an alkaloid from the Mexican wild potatoSolanum demissum Lindl. The synthesis involves the following steps: 5-solanidane-3-one, 2,4-dibromo-5-solanidane-3-one, solanid-4-ene-3-one, 3-acetoxy-solanida-3,5-diene, and solanidine (II).

α-aminooxy-acid derivatives with potent antituberculotic effect

Zusammenfassung Es wurde festgestellt, dass einzelne -Aminooxy-carbonsäure-Derivate, d.h.-AOA-Amide,-AOA-Hydrazide und-AOA-Hydroxamsäure, in vitro und auch in vivo eine ausgeprägte Hemmung auf verschiedeneM. tuberculosis-Stämme aufweisen.     

Decrease of norepinephrine in brain and heart of vitamin E deficient rats

Zusammenfassung Viermonatiger Vitamin-E-Mangel bewirkt bei Ratten einen etwa 25 prozentigen Abfall des Noradrenalin-Gehaltes in Gehirn und Herz, der durchdl--Tokopherol rückgängig gemacht wird. Die Abnahme des Noradrenalins erfolgt ohne gleichzeitige Verminderung der Tyrosin-Hydroxylase- und Dopamin--Hydroxylase-Aktivität.     

Ein neues Verfahren zur Herstellung von 19-Norsteroiden

Summary The new methods for the production of 19-norsteroids described involve the conversion of 5-halogen-6-hydroxy-steroids into the corresponding 5-halogen-6:19-ethers either with lead tetraacetate or by the hypoiodite reaction^8,10. The 6:19-oxygen bridge is then opened reductively either directly or after oxidation of the 6:19-ethers to lactones or preferably after introduction of a ^4,6-3-oxo grouping. Acylolytic cleavage of the ⁴-3-oxo-6:19-ethers followed by alkaline hydrolysis gives ^4,6-3-oxo-19-hydroxy-steroids. The 19-hydroxycompounds formed are easily converted into 19-norsteroids by known methods.

7α-hydroxylation of dehydroepiandrosterone in human testis and epididymis in vitro

Zusammenfassung Zerhackte menschliche Hoden und Epididymis wurden mit Dehydroepiandrosteron ohne Kofaktoren bebrütet und es wurden unter anderem 7-und 7-Hydroxydehydroepiandrosteron und 5-Androsten-3, 7, 17-triol charakterisiert. Die Ausbeute an 7-hydroxylierten Metaboliten war fast gleich in Hoden und Epididymis.

Deuterium isotope effects in the ninhydrin reaction of primary amines

Summary The rate of development of Ruhemann's purple in the ninhydrin reaction of two deuterated primary amines, -d₂-p-tyramine and -d₂--phenylethylamine, is significantly reduced It appears to be a primary isotope effect and indicates that the cleavage of the carbon-hydrogen bond at the -position is involved in the rate-determining step of the color reaction.Acknowledgements. 17β-Hydroxymethyl-steroide: Darstellung von 17α-Hydroxy-17β-hydroxymethyl-4-androsten-3-on aus Reichsteins Substanz S

Summary The synthesis of 17-hydroxy-17-hydroxymethyl-4-androsten-3-one fromReichsteins compound S is described. Transformation of 3,3-ethylenedioxy-17-hydroxy-17-hydroxymethyl-5-androsten into 17-methyl-isotestosterone demonstrates the configuration of the substituents at C-17.     

Interdependence between locomotor activity and duration of wakefulness in humans during isolation

Summary Locomotor activity was recorded in 14 subjects who lived singly in an isolation unit for 16 to 88 days. Their free-running circadian rhythms had a mean period of 25.9 h, with individual means in the duration of wakefulness () ranging from 12.1 to 22.9 h. Intraindividually, the hourly means of activity were negatively correlated with to such a degree that the total amount of activity per day remained constant irrespective of large variations in .     

An epoxidation byCorynebacterium simplex

Zusammenfassung Während unserer Untersuchungen über die mikrobiologische Dehydrierung verschiedener 16-Methylsteroide durch Bakterienkulturen vonCorynebacterium simplex, wurde eine neue Art von Umwandlung beobachtet. Von 16-Methyl-9(11)-pregnen-17, 21-diol-3, 20-dion-21-acetat ausgehend, gelang es aus den Kulturfiltraten 16-Methyl-1, 4-pregnadien-9, 11-epoxy-17, 21-diol-3, 20-dion zu isolieren. In einigen Fällen wurde auch das4-Derivat dieser Verbindung als Nebenprodukt erhalten.     

Study of the relationship between the magnitude of biological activity and the structure of aliphatic compounds

Zusammenfassung Es wurde festgestellt, dass die experimentellen Daten der sogenannten physikalischen Toxizität von aliphatischen Verbindungen die Gleichung log ( _i/ _Ät)= erfüllen, wo _iund _Ät die Grösse der biologischen Wirkung des i-ten Derivats und des Äthylderivats bezeichnen und und die Konstanten sind. Die Bedeutung der beiden Konstanten wurde erwähnt.     

Volatiles associated with scolytus scolytus beetles on English elm

Summary -Multistriatin, 4-methyl-3-heptanol and-cubebene, the components of the aggregation pheromone of Scolytus multistriatus are also associated with virgin female Scolytus scolytus on English elm, Ulmus procera.We thank Dr J. Synthese von 5α- und 5β-Androstan-17β-ol-3-on-17-acetat aus Hyodesoxycholsäure

Summary 5- and 5-androstane-17-ol-3-one-17-acetate have been prepared from 5-androstane-6, 17-diol-3-one-17-acetate by a synthesis involving directedHuang-Minlon-reduction.Separation of 5-androstane-17-ol-3-one from its 5-isomer could readily be achieved by crystallisation of their 3-ethylenketals from acetone.     

Synthese von 22,26-Imino-cholestan-Derivaten

Summary 3, 16-diacetoxy-5-pregnane-20-one and the analogue pregn-5-ene derivative have been converted into (22R, 25R)-22, 26-imino-5-cholestane-3, 16-diol. The configuration at C-22 and C-25 was determined by transformation into the known (22R, 25R)-5-solanidane-3-one. Application of the Ruschig method led to (25R)-22,26-imino-5-cholest-22(N)-ene-3, 16-diol.

Effects of injury on the concentration ofα 1 andα 2 in the plasmas of male and female rats

Summary The effects of injury on the concentration of ₁-macroglobulin and ₂-macroglobulin in the plasmas of male and female rats has been investigated. At 5 days after injury to the male rats the ₁-macroglobulin concentration increased to 131% of its preinjury value. The ₂-macroglobulin concentration increased more rapidly to a maximum of 86 times its initial value. In the female rats ₂-macroglobulin increased only slightly and ₁-macroglobulin not at all.     

The antifertility action of α-chlorohydrin: metabolism by rat and boar sperm

Summary The male antifertility agent -chlorohydrin (I) is metabolized by rat and boar sperm to -chloroactaldehyde (III), -chlorolactate (IV) and Cl^– and not to the proposed active metabolite, -chlorohydrin-1-phosphate (III). It is proposed that -chlorolactaldehyde is produced intracellularly by a specific enzyme and that this is the metabolite responsible for the species-specific antifertility activity of -chlorohydrin.This work was supported by The National Health and Medical Research Council of Australia.
