Impact of public name resolving services on Akamai

To enhance user perceived performance,Akamai＇ s content distribution network （CDN） utilizes the domain name system （DNS） effectively to redirect users to close-by content replicas over short time scale.The use of DNS redirection has brought a significant advantage to Akamai＇ s CDN.However,the reliance on DNS also poses a fundamental threat to Akamai＇ s content distribution model.In particular,systematic evaluation and quantification illustrates the impact of recent emerging public DNS resolving services on Akamai＇ s CDN,including the degradation of corresponding user perceived performance and the benefit damnification of collaborating internet services providers （ISPs） that host Akamai＇ s edge servers.The measurement demonstrates that a considerable penetration of public DNS resolving services （e.g.,OpenDNS and GoogleDNS） effectively corrupts the Akamai＇ s serving model,namely the large-scale server distribution and quick DNS redirection.

1、Introductory note Geological processes are ultimately consequences of Earth＇s thermal evolution. Plate tectonic theory, which explains geological phenomena along plate boundaries, elegantly illustrates this concept. For example, the origin of oceanic plates at ocean ridges, the movement and growth of these plates, and their ultimate consumption back into the Earth＇s deep interior through subduction zones provide an efficient mechanism to cool the earth＇s mantle, leading to large-scale mantle convection. Mantle plumes, which explain another set of global geological phenomena such as within-plate volcanism, cool the earth＇s deep interior （probably the Earth＇s core） and represent another mode of Earth＇s thermal convection. Plate tectonic theory and mantle plume hypothesis thus complement each other to explain much of the whole picture of Earth processes and phenomena.

The Communicative Functions of ntentional isinterpretation in Daily Conversation

The present study analyzes the phenomenon of intentional misinterpretation in verbal communication and its communicative functions. In human verbal communication, misunderstanding occurs when the hearer＇s understanding of the speaker＇s utterances is not identical with the speaker＇s intended one. However, in some cases, the hearer may intentionally choose the interpretation diverging from the speaker＇s intended meaning in order to achieve certain communicative effects. This kind of linguistic phenomenon can be called intentional misinterpretation, which performs various functions in human daily conversation.

Synthetic seismograms of ground motion near earthquake fault using simulated Green’s function method

Seismograms near source fault were synthesized using the hybrid empirical Green＇s function method where the discretely simulated seismic waveforms are used for Green＇s functions instead of the observed waveforms of small earthquakes. The Green＇s function seismic waveforms for small earthquake were calculated by solving wave equation using the pseudo-spectral method with the staggered grid real FFT strategy under a detailed 2-D velocity structure in Kobe region. Magnitude and seismic moment of simulated Green＇s function waveforms were firstly determined by using the relationship between fault length and corner frequency of source spectrum. The simulated Green＇s function waveforms were employed to synthesize seismograms of strong ground motion near the earthquake fault. The synthetic seismograms of the target earthquake were performed based on the model with multiple source rupture processes. The results suggest that synthesized seismograms coincide well with observed seismic waveforms of the 1995 Hyogo-ken Nanbu earthquake. The simulated Green＇s function method is very useful for prediction of the strong ground motion in region without observed seismic waveforms. The present technique spreads application field of the empirical Green＇s function method.

Game Analysis of Implementing Price Undertaking Agreements in Anti-dumping Disputes

The Price Undertaking Agreement is one of the strategies a company accused of dumping often adopts in dealing with anti-dumping disputes. Using static game analysis, this paper compares the impact that anti-dumping duties and price undertaking agreements may have on an importing country＇s social welfare and an accused company＇s market performance. We conclude that, compared with anti-dumping duties, price undertakings improve the importing country＇s social welfare and reduce the accused company＇s market share in the import country. We also note that, in addition to the financial benefit, price undertakings can prevent escalation of trade disputes in international trade negotiations.     

An Ecocritical Interpretation of Jude the Obscure

Thomas Hardy is a famous novelist and poet in the 19th century.Both in his novels and poems,Hardy shows his deep love fornature.Jude the Obscure,Hardy＇s last novel,deeply reflects his ecological thoughts.Based on the theory of ecocriticism,this paper tries toanalyze Hardy＇s ecological thoughts from two aspects including natural ecology and spiritual ecology.The writer＇s lament for the destructionof environment and his sympathy for animals reflect his natural ecological thoughts;the tragedies of Sue and Little Father Time remind peo-ple of the importance of keeping spiritual ecological balance.Interpreting the novel from the perspective of ecocriticism,this paper intends toshow Hardy＇s attempt to keep natural and spiritual ecological balance,and then help the readers to form a better understanding of both Har-dy＇s works and his ideas of literary creation.     

Authenticated Diffie-Hellman key agreement protocol with forward secrecy

Forward secrecy is an important security property in key agreement protocol. Based on Ham＇s protocol, in this paper a new authenticated Diffie-Hellman key agreement protocol with half forward secrecy is proposed. This protocol is also based on a single cryptographic assumption, and is user authentication and shared key authentication. More importantly, our protocol provides forward secrecy with respect to one of the parties. For this reason, besides the advantages of Ham＇s protocol, in practice, our protocol can reduce the damages resulted from the disclosure of the user＇s secret key and it is very beneficial to today＇s communication with portable devices.     

Narrator and Narrative Voice in “Soldier＇s Home”

＂Soldier＇s Home,＂ Hemingway employs a third person narrator which narrates the short story in a seemingly detached and indifferent narrative voice. However,further exploration of the narrator and narrative voice in the story demonstrates that,instead of being thoroughly detached,the narrator constantly penetrates into the protagonist＇s consciousness,merges with character＇s voice,and even betrays Hemingway＇s sympathies with his protagonist. This paper attempts to explore narrator and narrative voice used in this story which contribute a lot to the alienation theme of the story as well as the successful depiction and characterization of a young soldier who finds himself desperate,disillusioned and alienated after returning home from the First World.War.
