The sialic acid content of both thymus and bursa of Fabricius during their growth and involution phases in chick has been reported in this study. It is observed that the sialic acid concentration is very high in 1-week-old chickens. The concentration subsequently decreases to a significant level and rises again prior to the onset of involution. In the post-involution period, a more or less minimal and constant level is maintained. The role of sialic acid in cellular activities of thymo-bursal system has been discussed.  相似文献

Summary Sialic acid, a very polar component of glycolipids and glycoproteins that is exposed on membrane surfaces, was observed in rat brain to vary in the descending order: forebrain, midbrain, cerebellum and medulla. Levels of 2-deoxyribose were also differentially distributed, with about 3.5 times as much in the cerebellum and nearly equal amounts elsewhere. Similar results were obtained with another genetic strain, but clear quantitative differences were evident for both chemicals.  相似文献

We have studied the effects of two modulations--streptozotocin-induced diabetes in vivo, and the presence of the carboxylic proton ionophore monensin in vitro--on the degradation of 3H-asialoorosomucoid ligand in isolated rat hepatocytes. The ligand was internalized by means of a synchronous wave procedure. Diabetes was associated with a marked decrease in the amount of total degraded radioactive ligand compared to that in normal cells (3.6% and 37.3% of internalized ligand respectively, at 60 min), together with increased secretion of degradation products into the incubation medium (87% and 46.3% of the total degraded ligand was secreted by diabetic and normal cells, respectively). Monensin induced similar effects in normal cells, but had no apparent effect in diabetic cells.  相似文献

Uptake of both taurocholate and indocyanine green (ICG) by isolated rat hepatocytes was saturable and obeyed Michaelis-Menten kinetics. Only uptake of taurocholate exhibited Na+-dependence, a phenomenon compatible with active membrane transport. These findings suggest that the mechanisms responsible for hepatocellular uptake of bile acids and anionic dyes differ fundamentally.  相似文献

The effect of norepinephrine on fatty acid synthesis (3H2O incorporation into fatty acids), on fatty acid oxidation to CO2 and on ketogenesis was studied in isolated hepatocytes of fed rats. After incubation with norepinephrine (50 microM), lipogenesis was lower (5.7 +/- 1.1 nmoles 3H2O incorporated into fatty acids/mg dry weight/30 min) than in controls (7.5 +/- 1.7; n = 6, p less than 0.02). In contrast, (1-14C) palmitate conversion into total ketone bodies was increased to 10.9 +/- 1.8 nmoles/mg/30 min with norepinephrine, vs 8.5 +/- 1.6 in controls (p less than 0.05), and more (1-14C) palmitate was converted to 14CO2 with norepinephrine than in controls (1.48 +/- 0.10 nmoles/mg/30 min vs 1.06 +/- 0.11, p less than 0.05). The inhibitory effect of norepinephrine on lipogenesis was abolished by addition of the alpha 1-receptor blocker prazosin, but not by alpha 2 or beta-blockers. The results demonstrate that the ketogenic effect of norepinephrine is coupled with an inhibitory effect on lipogenesis which may be explained by diminished activity of acetyl-CoA carboxylase, diminished formation of malonyl-CoA and decreased activity of carnitine palmitoyl transferase I.  相似文献

Summary The role of sialic acid in determining the life of circulating cells and glycoproteins is reviewed and an attempt is made to assess its real importance and to interpret the desialylation pathway. Amphetamine and methaqualone affected aspartate level in various regions of Rat brain. Increased aspartate level in cerebral cortex of methaqualone treated Rats was produced in the aspartate fraction whose binding to subcellular particules was Na+ dependant. This work suggest that aspartate level was altered only in brain fraction implicated in the pharmacological effects of the drugs.  相似文献
