Language is a means of communication.No doubt that foreign language teaching is to cultivate students' communicative competence of using a foreign language.As the country with the largest population learning English in the world,China is deeply involved in communicative language teaching.Communicative approach in English language teaching is frequently discussed and debated.It is believed by many linguists and teachers to be an effective method to solve some of the teaching and learning problems.But as far as the effective ways of teaching and learning a foreign language is concerned,people have some controversial ideas.The teaching method which have been used in China's English teaching were: grammar-translation method,listening and speaking method and situation method.     

THE ROLE OF TEACHERS IN TEACHING CHINESE AS A FOREIGN LANGUAGE

This paper mainly illustrates the important role TCFL teachers play in the process of teaching Chinese as a foreign language and the requirement that has been imposed on the teachers to be equipped with a set of professional knowledge structure and skill structure.The characteristics of TCFL determine the special teaching content and teaching methodology of this field,which require the teachers to have special knowledge and unique skills.     

TEACHING PRONUNCIATION TO EFL STUDENTS

pronunciation teaching is considered as a basic course in English as a foreign language teaching in China. As we all know that English is a tool of communication between Chinese people and the people abroad,it is very important to have good pronunciation in order to communicate effectively. Though that good pronunciation is necessary for the mastery of a foreign language is accepted as axiomatic by most teachers, yet how the idea translates into the methodologies and techniques of the FEL classroom is still a question. And the utmost goal of language teaching is to cultivate EFL learners’communicative competence, but not merely the linguistic knowledge. In order to improve EFL learners’English proficiency, teachers must make efforts to cultivate EFL learners’intercultural competence and promote their sensibility and adaptability to the differences between Chinese culture and the Western culture. Only by doing so, can EFL learners communicate with native speakers appropriately and smoothly. This paper proposes some effective teaching techniques and methods that can be applied in English classroom to cultivate Chinese EFL learners’intercultural competence.     

PRAGMATICS and FOREIGN LANGUAGE TEACHING

This paper intends to discuss the research of pragmatics' influence on foreign language teaching.It divides into four parts,mainly deals with relationship between pragmatics and teaching.Pragmatics directs what to teach and selects which syllabus.Also,it directs how to teach(weather the student-centred or teacher-centred,use what techniques and so on).Pragmatics directs teaching,while teaching experiences is the practical material for pragmatics research.This paper also gives a deep discussion about Pragmatic context and cultural pragmatics which is an important factor in the study of pragmatics and foreign language teaching.This presentation intends to provide an overview on the roles that research in pragmatics should be playing that could be viewed as necessary adjusted focus in its research domain.     

Implications of Sapir-Whorf Hypothesis on Second Language Teaching

1 IntroductionForeign language teaching generally refers to the theory and practice of teaching a foreign language.It has close connection with linguistics,psychology,education,philosophy,sociology and other disciplines.Since linguistics and foreign language teaching both study language phenomena on the aspects of theory and practice,the two are much closely related to each other.Linguistics is beneficial to language teaching in two aspects: Firstly,applied linguistics extends theoretical linguistics in the direction of language learning and teaching,so that the teacher is enabled to make better decisions on the goal and content of the teaching.Secondly,applied linguistics states the insights and implications that linguistic theories have on the language teaching methodology.Once the goal and content of the teaching are settled,the teacher has to consider questions of how to teach.As an English teacher it really enriches my mind on what to teach and how to teach more effectively.This paper will focus on Sapir-Whorf Hypothesis and its implications on second language teaching.     

E- mail Interaction in Foreign Language Learning

E - mail has been implemented in foreign language learning and teaching for many years. The Application of CALL in Higher Vocational College

In recent years,with the rapid development of the informational,the digital and audio-visual technology,multimedia technology and its application have also entered a new development era in people’s life,especially in the academic field.In China,Computer Assisted Language Learning(CALL) has a far-reaching influence on the reforming and modernization of the education,and has brought about a new revolution in foreign language teaching and learning.The study,by means of a self-designed questionnaire,conducted a survey of the application of CALL with 120 English majors and 30 English teachers in a certain higher vocational college which the author works in.The study hopes that,with the help of the technological advantages of CALL and the rich on-line information resources via computers,the students’ study could be carried out in a more effective and convenient way.The results of statistical analysis revealed that,the majority of the students and teachers hold a positive attitude toward CALL application in language teaching and learning,though they have reported some weaknesses of CALL.According to the analysis,the paper attempts to discuss the advantages and the disadvantages of multimedia technology in English teaching and suggests several proposals to better the use of CALL.

Teacher＇s applying euphemisms can shake offthe fright of students in pubhc, protect their self-esteem and stimulate their interest in study. When it is applied to teaching languages appropriately, relaxing and lively atmosphere built in class, students＇ confidence elevated, their initiative enhanced, good teaching results can be attained.
