Conclusions The decrease of circulating blood volume, resulting in oligemic hypotension, may evoke in anaesthetized cat the active constrictory coronary vessel responses of 2 types, one occuring immediately after start of the hypotension and the other having a significantly prolonged latency.

Synthesis and pharmacological properties of [1-N4-dimethyl-asparagine]-angiotensin II

Summary [1-N⁴-Dimethyl-asparagine]-angiotensin II was synthesized by Merrifield's solid-phase procedure. The analogue gave rat blood pressure about 70% relative potency to Hypertensin (Ciba). Correlations between glucose-inhibition and control parameters of α-glucosidase kinetics inApis mellifica haemolymph (Hymenoptera: Insecta)

Summary Kinetics studies of haemolymph -glucosidase inhibition by D. glucose led to general correlations between inhibition and control parameters, all over the honeybee development. Maximum velocities are not affected by the inhibition, while affinity constants are always significantly increased, and Hill coefficients tend to decrease, especially in foraging adults and in prenymphs. In this later case, the n-type effect tends to break the manifestation of the K-type mechanism.

Deuterium isotope effects in the ninhydrin reaction of primary amines

Summary The rate of development of Ruhemann's purple in the ninhydrin reaction of two deuterated primary amines, -d₂-p-tyramine and -d₂--phenylethylamine, is significantly reduced It appears to be a primary isotope effect and indicates that the cleavage of the carbon-hydrogen bond at the -position is involved in the rate-determining step of the color reaction.Acknowledgements. Tetrapyrrole biosynthesis from 4,5-dioxovaleric acid inRhodopseudomonas spheroides

Summary Porphyrin biosynthesis from 4,5-dioxovaleric acid was studied in cell suspensions ofR. spheroides. The experiments show that 4,5-dioxovaleric acid is a far precursor of porphyrins through amino laevulinic acid formation in a transamination reaction involving also 1-alanine. It differs radically from the classical aminolaevulinic acid synthesis using glycine and succinyl CoA as substrates.Acknowledgments: The authors are indebted to Dr Rodolfo García for helpful discussions and criticisms.
