Serum and liver radioactivity levels in mice after intraperitoneal and subcutaneous injection of [14C]orotic acid

Summary [¹⁴C]Orotic acid was rapidly distributed in blood after, both i.p. and s.c. injection but was not completely absorbed from the peritoneal cavity until 20 min after injection. S.c. injection should be an acceptable alternative to i.p. injection although the incorporation into the liver acid soluble- and RNA-fractions was somewhat delayed after the s.c. injection.This work was supported by grants from the Carl Trygger Foundation and the Foundation of Director Albert Påhlsson.     

Hematopoietic changes in NMRI mice after the intravenous and subcutaneous injection ofBordetella pertussis vaccine

Zusammenfassung Sowohl die i.v. als auch die s.c. Injektion abgetöteter Zellen vonBordetella pertussis führt bei Mäusen zu Splenomegalie und ausgeprägter Blut-Leukozytose, an der Lymphozyten und Granulozyten beteiligt sind. Zudem bewirkte die Injektion vonB. pertussis eine deutliche Verminderung der Erythrocyten mit Minimalwerten am 5. Tag. Am 10. Tag und danach wurden wieder Normalwerte gefunden.

The determination of orotic acid in the blood serum by means of the spectrophotometric method

Zusammenfassung Das Prinzip des Orotsäurenachweises beruht auf der Deproteination des Serums mittels Uranylessigester und der Verwandlung der Orotsäure durch Bromation in 5,5-Dibrombarbitursäure und nachfolgende Debromation in Barbitursäure. Letztere ergibt mitp-Dimethylaminobenzaldehyd ein intensiv gefärbtes Produkt, 5-(p-dimethylaminobenzyliden)-Barbitursäure.     

Incorporation of [14C] amino acids into liver S-RNA of chick. Effect of orotic acid and vitamin B12

Riassunto La somministrazione dietetica di vitamina B₁₂ e di acido orotico determina un aumento della incorporazione dellal-serina C¹⁴ nello RNA solubile del fegato di pulcino carente di B₁₂, mentre non è in grado di influenzare quella dellal-leucina¹⁴C e dellal-metionina¹⁴C.     

Bacterial RNA synthesis in frog auricles after intraperitoneal injection of bacteria

Résumé Des organes de plantes ou d'animaux mis dans une suspension bactérienne synthétisent du RNA bactérien. Ce phénomène que nous avons appelé transcession est dû au transfert de DNA spontanément cédé par les bactéries vivantes aux cellules des organismes supérieurs. Dans le présent travail, il est démontré que le même phénomène peut avoir lieu naturellement lorsqu'une grenouille est sujette à une infection bactérienne.

Uptake of C14-para-fluorophenylalanine in the tissues of mice

Zusammenfassung Trächtigen Mäusen wurde 2 Tage vor dem Ende der Schwangerschaft 3-C¹⁴-para-Fluorphenylalanin, eine dem Phenylalaninin analoge Aminosäure, i.v. injiziert. Die Verteilung der Substanz im Organismus und ihr Einbau in die Proteine wurde gleichzeitig autoradiographisch und chemisch untersucht.Aus den Autoradiogrammen geht hervor, dasspara-Fluorphenylalanin im Organismus wie eine normale Aminosäure verteilt wird. Die chemischen Untersuchungen zeigen, dass ein grosser Teil der Substanz in die Proteine eingebaut wird.Wir schliessen daraus, dass sichpara-Fluorphenylalanin im Stoffwechsel gleich oder sehr ähnlich verhält wie die physiologisch vorkommende Aminosäure Phenylalanin.     

Urinary excretion of C14-histamine and metabolites in cats after C14-histamine given intravenously,and into the cerebral ventricles

Zusammenfassung In narkotisierte Katzen wurde C¹⁴-Histamin entweder durch Hirnventrikel perfundiert oder intravenös injiziert. Seine Ausscheidung und Metabolite in Urin wurde gleichzeitig bestimmt: Ca. 2% des durch die Hirnventrikel perfundierten C¹⁴-Histamins wurde im Blutstrom resorbiert.     

Hepatic and cerebral coenzyme a contents after intravenous injection of coenzyme a in rats

Summary Hepatic CoA concentrations and contents were significantly higher in rats having received i.v. CoA injections than in control rats. Maximum hepatic CoA concentrations were found 0.5–1 h after injection. In rat brain, no increase in CoA concentration was detected after i. v. injection of CoA.Acknowledgments. We thank MissV. Distribution of14C after topical application of14C-labeled 1,3-bis-(2-chloroethyl)-1-nitrosourea (BCNU) in mice

Summary Following topical application of¹⁴C-labeled 1,3-bis(2-chloroethyl)-1-nitrosourea (BCNU, carmustine) to the skin of mice radioactivity was found in all viscera and tissues examined.
