Diurnal shedding by retinal rods was studied in wild cutthroat trout,Oncorhyncus clarki, hatchery rainbow trout,Oncorhyncus mykiss, and the plains killifish,Fundulus zebrinus, by counting the shed tips of rod outer segments ingested as phagosomes by pigment epithelial cells. After sunrise, phagosomes increased in all species, but fewer occurred in trout, and these were elevated from 3 to 9 hours after sunrise. Shedding occurred earlier in the light period and was more robust in killifish, with phagosomes elevated from 1.5 to 6 hours after sunset. The data suggest that both production of phagosomes by shedding and their subsequent disposal are slower at the lower temperatures experienced by trout. Otherwise, rod shedding produced under natural lighting is not appreciably different than that provoked by sudden onset of artificial light. 相似文献

Adrenaline (A) is synthesized in the adrenal medullae by the enzyme phenylethanolamine-N-methyltransferase (PNMT). After surgical removal of the adrenal medullae tissue A levels ranged from 22% of control in the heart to 125% of control in the liver. Use of a novel assay to measure tissue A formation revealed that many tissues can synthesize A using PNMT and another enzyme that N-methylates both noradrenaline and dopamine. These enzymes are non-neuronal, inducible and synthesize a major fraction of tissue and urine A. 相似文献

The significance of this process is doubtful at UpH ranging from about 6 to 7. The protocadherins (Pcdhs), which make up the most diverse group within the cadherin superfamily, were first discovered in the early 1990s. Data implicating the Pcdhs, including ~60 proteins encoded by the tandem Pcdha, Pcdhb, and Pcdhg gene clusters and another ~10 non-clustered Pcdhs, in the regulation of neural development have continually accumulated, with a significant expansion of the field over the past decade. Here, we review the many roles played by clustered and non-clustered Pcdhs in multiple steps important for the formation and function of neural circuits, including dendrite arborization, axon outgrowth and targeting, synaptogenesis, and synapse elimination. We further discuss studies implicating mutation or epigenetic dysregulation of Pcdh genes in a variety of human neurodevelopmental and neurological disorders. With recent structural modeling of Pcdh proteins, the prospects for uncovering molecular mechanisms of Pcdh extracellular and intracellular interactions, and their role in normal and disrupted neural circuit formation, are bright. 相似文献

Both uptake systems were inhibited by p-hydroxymercuribenzoic acid and ouabain, and by the action of neuraminidase, whereas the GABA analogs nipecotic acid, -alanine, 2,4-diaminobutyric acid and 4,5,6,7-tetrahydroisoxazolo-[4,5c]-pyridin-3-ol had no effect on the GABA uptake activity.
