Riassunto Gli estratti di pelle diBufo alvarius, rospo delle regioni desertiche del Nord America, contengono, oltre alle consuete 5-idrossiindolalchilamine (5-HT, N-metil-5-HT, bufotenina) enormi quantitativi di derivati 5-metossiindolici, rappresentati soprattutto daO-metilbufotenina. Questa può giungere a costituire fino il 16% del peso delle ghiandole cutanee secche. Si insiste sulla probabile presenza di 5-idrossiindolo-O-metiltransferasi nella pelle diBufo alvarius.

Reserpine and human platelet 5-hydroxytryptamine

Zusammenfassung Nach einmaliger intramuskulärer Injektion von 1 mg Reserpin sinkt beim Menschen der 5-Oxytryptamingehalt der Blutplättchen zwei Tage lang ab, um bis zum neunten Tag auf unbestimmbarem Wert zu verharren. Während dieser Zeit ist die 5-OT-Aufnahmefähigkeit der Plättchen vermindert. Der Oxytryptamingehalt der Plättchen erreicht seinen Ausgangswert erst ungefähr 3 Wochen nach der Reserpingabe.Die Ansicht, dass die Plättchen freies 5-Oxytryptamin aus dem Kreislauf aufnehmen, wäre mit diesem Ergebnis zu vereinbaren. Die Dauer des Effektes könnte bedeuten, dass Reserpin entweder auf Plättchenvorstadien im Knochenmark wirkt oder aber dass die Lebensdauer der Plättchen in Wirklichkeit länger ist, als neuerdings angenommen wird.

Accumulation of 5-hydroxydopamine in 5-HT storage organelles of cat platelets and concomitant changes in platelet aggregation

Zusammenfassung 5-HO-DA, das in den Vesikeln der peripheren adrenergen Nervenendigungen gespeichert und als falscher Transmitter freigesetzt wird, wird auch in den Serotonin-Speicher-Granula der Thrombozyten hochgradig angereichert, ohne jedoch das endogene Serotonin freizusetzen. Gleichzeitig wird die durch Serotonin hervorgerufene Thrombozytenaggregation blockiert.     

Advantages ofn-heptanol in the extraction of 5-hydroxytryptamine (5-HT)

Zusammenfassung Mitn-Heptanol als Extraktionsmittel können kleine Mengen von 5-Hydroxytryptamin (5-HT) aus biologischem Material, das 5-Hydroxytryptaphan (5-HTP) in grossen Mengen enthält, extrahiert werden.     

Optic evoked potential changes induced by deaminated metabolites of serotonin: 5-hydroxytryptophol and 5-hydroxyindole acetic acid

Resumen En el conejo no anestesiado, el acido 5-hidroxiindoleacético y el 5-hidroxitriptofol modifican los potenciales ópticos evocados de manera similar que la serotonina. Los derivados deaminados de la serotonina probablemente modulan las sinápsis serotonérgicas.     

Ultrastructural localization of 5-methylcytosine on DNA and RNA

DNA methylation is the major epigenetic modification and it is involved in the negative regulation of gene expression. Its alteration can lead to neoplastic transformation. Several biomolecular approaches are nowadays used to study this modification on DNA, but also on RNA molecules, which are known to play a role in different biological processes. RNA methylation is one of the most common RNA modifications and 5-methylcytosine presence has recently been suggested in mRNA. However, an analysis of nucleic acid methylation at electron microscope is still lacking. Therefore, we visualized DNA methylation status and RNA methylation sites in the interphase nucleus of HeLa cells and rat hepatocytes by ultrastructural immunocytochemistry and cytochemical staining. This approach represents an efficient alternative to study nucleic acid methylation. In particular, this ultrastructural method makes the visualization of this epigenetic modification on a single RNA molecule possible, thus overcoming the technical limitations for a (pre-)mRNA methylation analysis.     

5-HT and the electrogenic sodium pump

Zusammenfassung Die Hyperpolarisation von paravertebralen Ganglien des Ochsenfrosches (Rana catesbeiana) in vitro, die durch K⁺ nach vorheriger Inkubation in K⁺-freier Ringerlösung ausgelöst wird, war in Gegenwart von Serotonin (5-Hydroxytryptamin) deutlich verstärkt. Auf die K⁺-bedingte Hyperpolarisation von Axonen des N. splanchnicus blieb Serotonin ohne Einfluss. Es wird angenommen, dass Serotonin die elektrogene Na⁺-Pumpe über Rezeptorenstimulation aktiviert, die an der Membran der Zellkörper, nicht jedoch an Axonen sympathischer Neuronen vorhanden ist.     

Depression of experimental gastric ulcers and acute pancreatitis in rats treated by 5-azacytosine, 5-azacytidine and their N-methyl derivatives

5-Azacytosine, 1-methyl-5-azacytosine and 5-azacytidine administered to rats with a ligated pylorus block gastric secretion, gastric acidity, the extent of hemorrhage and the number and size of gastric defects. The same drugs also depress the development of experimental acute pancreatitis mediated in rats by interstitial administration of 7.5% natrium cholate into the pancreas in vivo. The drugs affected the amount of abdominal fluid and 6 h after the treatment the pathological changes were significantly decreased.

Binding of 5-hydroxytryptamine and noradrenaline by rat lung

Résumé Après injection i.v. de 5-hydroxatryptamine-C¹⁴ et de noradrénaline-H³ à des rats, on a préparé et centrifugé des homogénates de leurs poumons dans un gradient linéaire de sucrose. Après sacrifice immédiat ces deux amines sont retrouvées dans une grande fraction de particules pulmonaires sédimentant dans 1M de sucrose. Après 30 min les poumons des rat offrent un pic additionel de noradrénaline-H³ correspondant à une densité de sucrose de 0.4 à 0.5.
