Transfer of T-cell mediated immunity toHymenolepis nana from mother mice to their neonates

Administration of lymph node cells fromHymenolepis nana-infected mice into lactating mothers, or directly suckling neonates successfully transferred immunity to the neonates. The capacity of lymph node cells to transfer immunity was completely abrogated by pretreatment with anti-Thy-1.2 monoclonal antibody and complement.     

Change in levels of cholesterol and free fatty acids of lymphoid cells during tumor growth

Summary Growth of Ehrlich's ascitic carcinoma in mice resulted in increase of free cholesterol and free fatty acids in lymphoid cells from thymus, spleen and cervical lymph node, but decrease of these lipids in the cells from mesenteric lymph node.

Summary The lymphoid cells from thymus, slpeen or mesenteric lymph node of mice treated with hydrocortisone or cyclophosphamide contained the significantly high levels of free fatty acids, triglycerides and cholesterol esters as compared to the corresponding cells from untreated animals.     

In situ demonstration of the activity of 3 beta-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase on steroid hormone secreting cells within the paraaortic lymph nodes of golden hamster

The in situ activity of 3 beta-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase was detected in clustered cells which showed steroid-producing morphology, within the capsule of the paraaortic lymph node. In light and electron microscopic studies, the positive reaction products were detected on intracapsular cell clusters. This result indicates that these unique cells may have a steroid secreting function within the lymph nodes.     

The in vitro effect of adrenergic agents and related compounds on triglyceride levels of guinea-pig lymphoid cells

Summary Isoproterenol, epinephrine and norepinephrine were highly potent in decreasing the triglyceride levels of the splenic lymphoid cells from guinea-pigs in vitro, while they were quite inert upon the inguinal lymph node cells.

Summary A close correlation was found between the levels of free cholesterol and free fatty acids in lymphoid cells from thymus, spleen or lymph node of mice and guinea-pigs. This relationship suggests a possible role of cholesterol regulating the fatty acid levels in lymphoid cells.     

Inhibition of DNA synthesis in concanavalin A stimulated rat lymph node cells by serum from arthritic rats.

Serum from adjuvant arthritic rats inhibits the mitogenic response of rat lymph node cells to concanavalin A, leaving unaffected the response to phytohemagglutinin. This activity is already evident 4 days after adjuvant administration and persists for at least 28 days.

Presence of natural killer cells in Peyer's patches of the mouse

Summary Natural cell-mediated cytotoxicity of normal murine Peyer's patch cells against Ehrlich ascites carcinoma was found in a short-term⁵¹Cr release assay. Peyer's patch and lymph node cells showed natural cytotoxicity at approximately the same level.Acknowledgments. This work was supported by grant No. 10.5 from the Polish Academy of Sciences.     

Nephrin in human lymphoid tissues

When nephrin, the protein product of NPHS1, was cloned, it was proposed to be specific for the kidney glomerular podocytes. Recently, however, new reports have emerged verifying additional nephrin expression sites, particularly the insulin-producing β cells of the pancreas, as well as the central nervous system. In this study, we demonstrate nephrin expression in lymphoid tissues, specifically the tonsil, adenoid and lymph node. Nephrin mRNA expression levels were 4-fold higher in tonsils and adenoids than in thymus or B lymphocytes, and 20-fold higher than in T lymphocytes or monocytes, as shown by quantitative RT-PCR analysis. Anti-nephrin antibodies recognised a specific 165-kDa band in lysates of tonsil and adenoid. In immunofluorescence and immunohistochemichal stainings of adenoid and lymph node sections, nephrin-positive cells were detected in the germinal centres of the lymphoid follicles in a staining pattern typical for interdigitating cells. Decrease in motor activity - an early symptom in the course of experimental allergic encephalomyelitis (EAE).

Motor activity has been followed in rats during an experimental allergic encephalomyelitis (EAE). The disease was produced by transfer of lymph node cells from sensitized syngenic donors. Small and large movements were permanently registered by an electric activity meter. It could be demonstrated that a decrease of the motility is an early symptome of the disease. Therefore the measurement of the motoric activity might be a useful parameter in the classification of EAE.     

A rapid method of following the spontaneous regression of experimental leukemias

Summary Transplantation of virus and chemically induced leukemias from C3H/He-mgxAKR/F₁ hybrid mice into C3H/He-mg males induced leukemias in the latter, which was followed by a spontaneous regression of the disease within a few days. The regression of leukemia could easily be followed by measuring the changes in the pyruvate kinase activity of para-aortic lymph node cells.     

Effect of a mitogenic concentration on membrane glycoconjugates of human lymphocytes

Periodate oxidation of human peripheral blood lymphocytes followed by reduction with 3H labelled sodium borohydride and acidic hydrolysis generates N-AN 7, glycerol and propane 1-2 diol. This indicates that sialyl, fucosyl and probably galactosyl residues are oxidized by periodate. Neuraminidase-treated lymphocytes exhibit decreased N-AN 7 levels, increased N-AN 8 levels and increased glycerol levels. Such results were neither found with mouse splenocytes nor with calf lymph node cells.     

Zytophotometrische Untersuchungen an normalen Lymphknotenzellen des Schafes

Summary Cytophotometric investigations of lymphocytic populations of 4 sheeps were carried out to determine the diploid standard value for comparative investigations of lymph node cells from sheep with lymphatic leucosis. Inspite of exact and simultaneous preparation there were marked and significant differences in the histograms as well as in the diagrams of absorption level separation. Therefore, the control of several normal cell populations is essential before starting cytophotometric investigations of neoplastic cells.

Fine structures of the basophil infiltration in regional lymph nodes of the guinea-pig after the intradermal injection of T cell mitogens

Summary Basophil-rich infiltrates in regional lymph nodes of guinea-pigs were demonstrated by electron microscopy after the intradermal injection of T cell mitogens (PHA and Con A). Basophils infiltrated the stroma of the lymph node via the postcapillary venules (PCV) and migrated to the paracortex. Prior to infiltration of the lymph nodes a cutaneous basophil hypersensitivity reaction was seen in the mitogen-injected skin. B cell mitogen (LPS) injection did not induce this response.
