Zusammenfassung Untersuchungen der Spermatogenese beim Pferd und Esel haben die diploide Chromosomenzahl 66 und die haploide Zahl 33 eindeutig ergeben. Die gleiche Zahl 66 kann beim Maulesel festgesetzt werden. Der Hoden des Maulesels enthält keine Spermatozytenteilung, trotzdem Spermatogonienteilung vorhanden ist. Unfruchtbarkeit beim Maulesel wegen Mangels beider Reifeteilungen hat sich mit Sicherheit feststellen lassen.

Mode of action of acorus calamus L. oil vapours on adult male sterility in red cotton bug

Summary In normal freshly moulted insects Spermotozoa are present and pass into the vas deferens after 24 h. They show morphological changes when inside the female genital tract. Sterility caused by Acorus calamus oil vapours is due to agglutation, malformation and immobility of sperms, which makes the sperms unable to undergo morphological differentiation in the female tract.     

Toxic effects of boric acid on the German cockroach

Boric acid is a slow-acting, inorganic insecticide whose mode of action has not been satisfactorily elucidated. Reported here is evidence which shows that ingested boric acid destroys the cellular lining of the foregut of German cockroaches,Blattella germanica (L.). This effect appears to be sufficient to bring about the death of the insects, perhaps ultimately by starvation. This finding is important because resistance to conventional insectivides may re-establish boric acid as a prominent cockroach control chemical.     

Shock effects on plants: Tannic acid and chlorogenic acid in yam roots

Résumé Les tanins de l'acide chlorogénique s'accumulent immédiatement après que les racines d'ignames ont été soumises à des chocs de 10 à 44 (0.6–2.66 kg/cm²), consistant en une pulsation de la pression comparable à une rafale d'air dans un tube. L'accumulation des tanins est inversement proportionelle à la pression. Mais, l'acide chlorogénique s'accumule progressivement avec élèvation du niveau du choc.

Summary Effects of single doses of 50 and 100 mg/kg of TMA given i.p. were noted in male albino mice after 40 min and 2 1/2 h. Locomotor activity was significantly altered and biochemical tests indicated stimulatory effects on adrenocortical and adrenomedullary functions due to TMA.     

Comparative effect of silver ion and gibberellic acid on the induction of male flowers on femaleCannabis plants

Summary Silver ion applied as AgNO₃ to the shoot tip of female plants ofCannabis induces male flowers. It is more effective than gibberellic acid (GA₃) in maintaining the induced state.Acknowledgment. Thermoregulatory effects on the sheep of intracerebroventricular injections of L-glutamic acid

L-glutamic acid injected in doses of 200--1000 n moles . kg-1 into the cerebral ventricles of sheep had dose-dependent thermoregulatory effects: an increase in heat production and/or a decrease in respiratory frequency, and a rise in rectal temperature. A dose of 800 nmoles . kg-1 had effects comparable with those of a similar injection of 3 nmoles . kg-1 carbamylcholine.

Nicotine and ascorbic acid effects on cold-restraint ulcers in rats

Summary Rats were orally administered 1-ascorbic acid, nicotine, 1-ascorbic acid and nicotine, or distilled water for 10 days. Following this treatment they were fasted for 24 h and then restrained in a cold environment for 2h. Nicotine alone produced significantly more gastric ulcers than any other treatment. 1-Ascorbic acid increased ulceration relative to controls. The combined effects of 1-ascorbic acid and nicotine resulted in reduced ulcer incidence and severity. It appears that 1-ascorbic acid and nicotine do not act synergistically to augment stress-induced gastric ulcer. Different effects of synthetic delta 9-tetrahydrocannabinol and cannabis extract on steroid metabolism in male rats

Repeated oral administration of cannabis extract as well as synthetic delta9-tetrahydrocannabinol to male rats produced significant changes in excretion of androgenic steroids and their metabolites as detectable in blood and urine. Cannabis extracts were found to be significantly more active than the mixtures containing same amounts of synthetic cannabinoids.
