Zusammenfassung Der antidiuretische Hormon-(ADH, Vasopressin) Gehalt des die Adenohypophyse durchströmenden Blutes wird für die Ruhephase mit 6 mU/ml und nach schwerem Blutverlust mit 2 U/ml berechnet. Die bisher allgemein vertretene Auffassung, nach welcher das ADH in einer für die normale Stimulation der adenohypophysären Sekretion des ACTH ungenügenden Konzentration vorhanden ist, kann nicht aufrechterhalten bleiben.     

Alloantigens directed by the SL-A region control the mixed lymphocyte reaction in swine]

Immunizations between a pig bearing a recombined SL-A haplotype and related animals revealed serological defined antigens under the MLR region control. These antigens seemed to be carried by all types of lymphocytes so far studied, but with large quantitative differences. The blood nonadherent on nylon fiber lymphocytes carried very few antigens and platelets none at all. The data are compatible with the assumption that these newly discovered antigens are equivalent to the mouse Ia antigens.     

Demonstration of a basal lamina in cocultures of thyroid cells and embryonal swine skin cells]

Porcine thyroid and embryo skin cells were isolated and cultured. Cultures from each kind of cells, as well as cocultures were fixed twice a week for electron microscopy. On day 8th a basal lamina like material appears only in the cocultures, along the basal plasmalemma of the reassociated thyroid cells. This amorphous material increases up to day 17th.     

Lymphocyte subpopulations in adjuvant arthritis of rats. Effects of corticoids and gamma irradiation]

Experimental model of human chronic inflammatory arthritis, adjuvant arthritis may be induced only in several strains of inbred Rats: it is well developed in LEW and practically absent in WAG. After adjuvant injection, the PHA-stimulable lymphocytes subpopulation quite disappears from the blood, if polyarthritis is well developed. These cells are probably capted in the tissues implicated in immunological conflict. On the contrary, the ConA-stimulable subpopulation is enhanced in both strains after adjuvant injection, earlier and more intense in WAG than in LEW and that phenomenon is probably linked to a stimulation of suppressor T lymphocytes. Treatment with prednisone or gamma rays inhibits partially and delays the appearance of arthritis in LEW, acting essentially on ConA-stimulable subpopulation.

Swine Vesicular Disease virus ingested by the adult fly Calliphora persists several days in the digestive tract of the insect and is eliminated in feces. The virus ingested by the insect at larval stage has been recovered from the digestive tract and feces of adult flies. Thus, the dissemination of the virus, even in a limited fashion, seems to be possible and attention is chiefly centered on the second process.     

Frequencygrams due to the stimulation of dynamic gamma axons exerting type II effects]

Frequencygrams are graphs giving indirect information on the contraction of intrafusal muscle fibres. Frequencygrams of Cat spindle primary endings (flexor hallucis longus, soleus and peroneus brevis muscles) were recorded during repetitive stimulation of dynamic gamma axons exerting type II effects. The features of these frequencygrams (periodic increments whose frequency is equal to that of the stimulation and "driving") show that they can be ascribed to a relatively strong and fast intrafusal contraction. Two interpretations are considered.     

Effect of orchidectomy and estradiol on acetylcholinesterase activity in rat brain areas and adenohypophysis

Summary Orchidectomy plus estradiol administration decreased acetylcholinesterase activity in the rat cerebral cortex and mesencephalon, while in the amygdala it was increased. In the adenohypophysis, orchidectomy increased enzyme activity, but subsequent estradiol treatment decreased it. The hypothalamus did not respond to either manipulation.

3,5,3'-triiodothyronine (T3) and 3,3',5'-triiodothyronine (rT3) were measured by radioimmunoassay in saline extracts of neonates and human adult thyroid tissues and of fetuses, Piglets and adult Swine thyroid tissues. In all these extracts, T3 content was higher than rT3 content whatever the period of development. Both triiodoamino acids represent a small percentage of the iodinated protein in thyroid tissues.     

Methylmercury toxicity in insect: detection of mercury in lysosomes using electron microprobe]

Intoxication of Blattella by methylmercury leads to a storage of the ingested metal within the lysosomes of ileum. Mercury is always found associated with zinc, sulphur and copper. Lysosome, therefore, intervenes in a detoxication process in Insects which have been exposed to organic mercury. It is suggested that mercury might be trapped by metallothionein.     

Immunological blockade of the adenohypophysis and its possible application in prophylaxis and therapy of neoplasia

Zusammenfassung Die Anwendung von anti-Adenohypophysen-Serum in der Therapie gewisser Wachstumshormon-abhängiger menschlicher Tumoren wird vorgeschlagen. Der Vorschlag einer derartigen immunologischen Intervention basiert auf der bekannten Hormonabhängigkeit oder-empfindlichkeit zahlreicher Tumoren und auf der Tatsache einer langanhaltenden Hemmung Wachstumshormon produzierender Zellen am experimentellen Tier. Viele Tumoren beim Menschen haben wahrscheinlich die Hormon-Abhängigkeit der normalen Gewebe oder Drüsen, von denen sie sich herleiten, beibehalten. Da Mangel an Wachstumshormon keine schädigenden Wirkungen auf andere vitale Funktionen hervorruft, wird die Herstellung eines anti-Menschen-Adenohypophysenserums und dessen Anwendung bei nachgewiesenermassen hormonabhängigen Tumoren oder Metastasen, wie z.B. bei gewissen Formen des Brustkrebses, vorgeschlagen. Eine Beeinflussung der Akromegalie und gewisser Formen von hypophysärer Diabetes durch dasselbe Antiserum kann ebenfalls in Betracht gezogen werden.     

Metabolism of guanine in the adenohypophysis of the male rat during growth and after castration

During incubation of the male Rat pituitary, guanine is metabolized according to two ways: the first one leads to the guanylic nucleotides subsequently incorporated into the RNA; the second one produces xanthine and uric acid. If guanosine is used as a precursor, the nucleoside is converted into guanine before utilisation thus suggesting a low level of guanosine kinase activity. The production of xanthine is higher in adult animals than in immature ones and it is increased following gonadectomy. It follows that the pituitary guanine deaminase could be considered as an enzyme regulated by sexual hormones.     

Application of immunoelectron microscopy to the detection of viruses in a water medium]

Adenoviruses were immersed in demineralyzed and deionized water for 5 days. The water was subsequently analyzed by Immuno-Electron-Microscopy for detection of viral particles. An attempt of quantation was also made on control, untreated particles. Viruses dispersed in water can be detected by the technique employed but quantitation is limited by the heterogeneous dispersion of the particles on the grids.     

Variations of testosterone uptake by gonadotropic cells of the adenohypophysis of the rat

Testosterone (T) could be detected by immunocytochemistry after cryoultramicrotomy and T is likely bound on a binding site of a high affinity. Castration and adrenalectomy involve a swift disappearance of T in the gonadotropic cells. Synthesis of new binding sites was induced by daily T injection in the castrated and surrenalectomized Rat from 90 days. This synthesis is inhibited by cycloheximide. These data suggest that binding sites are proteins. The captation of T by the gonadotropic cells was diminished similarly at the diminution of T, afterwards, T captation was stabilized at a weak level which became stable for several weeks. It seems that immunocytochemistry permits the study of the variation of T captation by Rat pituitary gonadotropic cells.     

New histochemical contributions to the study of corticotropic cells in the adenohypophysis of the chick enbryo.]

Comparative analysis of results obtained after subsequent treatments of chick embryo adenohypophysis by anti-ACTH 17-39 Is, PAS and Bodian method demonstrates that ACTH cells are PAS positive, Bodian negative and are located in the cephalic lobe. With the histochemical fluorescence method of Falck, the cells marked by anti-ACTH 17-39 Is exhibit an induced fluorescence, after L-DOPA injection. However, after treatment by metopirone, numerous cells of the caudal part of the adenohypophysis take up L-DOPA but they are not corticotrophs.     

Potato leafroll virus: purification, serologic detection and quantitative analysis in plants]

The Potato Leafroll Virus has been purified from Potato. An antiserum obtained allows the use of the Enzyme Linked-Immunosorbent Assay, a direct means to detect the PLRV in the plant and to assess its real concentration.     

Changes in total and polymerized tubulin of the medial basal hypothalamus and adenohypophysis of castrated or hormone-injected rats

Summary Treatment of orchidectomized rats with LH, FSH or prolactin decreased the tubulin content of the medial basal hypothalamus (MBH), whereas FSH or prolactin augmented it in the adenohypophysis (AH). After castration, negative correlations existed between serum LH and total or polymerized MBH tubulin, whereas in the AH positive correlations were found. Heterogeneous effects of sinusoidal muscular stretching on frequency grams of primary endings due to stimulation of static gamma axons]

The action of sinusoidal stretching at 1,5 Hz on primary ending frequencygrams due to repetitive stimulation of static gamma axons has been studied, in nembutalized cats, on flexor hallucis longus muscle spindles. Whenever, in static conditions, driving is elicited by the repetitive stimulation of gamma axons, the elementary components of the frequencygrams increase in amplitude during muscle stretch. This effect is not observed when the stimulation of the gamma axons gives a regular acceleration of the primary endings without "driving".
