Activation of complement by trypanosomes.

Factors exhibiting anti-complementary activity released from trypanosomes after incubation at 20 degrees C were described. The active material was shown to consume the first component of bovine complement. While the anti-complementary factor(s) from T. lewisi could activate bovine, human and guinea pig complement, the factor(s) from T. congolense was observed to activate bovine complement, but not guinea pig and only slightly human complement. The roles of complement activating factor(s) of trypanosomes in the pathology of the disease are discussed.     

In vitro culture of larval amphibian erythroblasts.

A larval erythroblast culture method is described. By this method, it is possible to cultivate for several weeks a homogeneous population of cells (5-10(5) cells/ml medium on average after 4 or 5 days of culture), which are relatively synchronous with regard to their state of differentiation.

In vitro conversion of sepiapterin to isosepiapterin via dihydrobiopterin

Résumé La dihydrobioptérine obtenue par le mélange réactionel de sépiaptérine et de sa réductase se transforme en substance jaune par traitement à l'acide sulfurique. Employant des techniques chromatographiques, l'analyse du spectre d'absorption UV et l'analyse chimique, on a pu mettre en évidence que cette substance est identique de l'isosépiaptérine.     

In vitro response of human leukocytes to anti-human-thymocyte globulin

Résumé La faculté qu'ont le sérum (ALS) antithymocyte du cheval et son dérivé IgG (ALG) de stimuler la synthèse du DNA avec les leukocytes péripheriques humains a été contrôlée in vitro. Sauf déviation même faible de dosage, l'ALS et l'ALG stimulent la synthèse du DNA. Une forte concentration de ALG inhibe l'effet stimulant de la phytohémagglutinine. Cela peut contribuer en partie à la mort de la cellule ou à sa dégradation à cause de la grande concentration de l'ALS ou de l'ALG.

In vitro mutagenicity of the soil nematicide 1,3-dichloropropene.

The cis- and trans-isomers of 1,3-dichloropropene have been tested in the Ames mutagenicity assay system on Salmonella typhimurium tester strain TA 1535. Both isomers have been found to be mutagenic even without microsomal activation.

In vitro lipid synthesis by lathyrogen-treated L-929 fibroblasts.

Aside from cholesterol, cholesterol esters and lyso-lecithin, the de novo lipid synthesic mechanisms which operate in cells grown in the presence of beta-amino-propionitrile are largely depressed and suggest that there may be in operation specific metabolic control mechanisms for regulation of cellular lipid composition.     

In vitro adherence of sheep red cells to macrophages of normal rats

Résumé Les macrophages péritonéaux de certains rats normaux provoquent in vitro l'adhérence des hématies de mouton, proprieté qui dépend de l'élevage et non de la race ou de l'âge. Un anticorps cytophile (absent chez les rats à macrophages inactifs pour ces hématies) est seulement présent dans les liquides de lavage péritonéaux, tandis que dans les sérums les anticorps (agglutinines complètes ou incomplètes, hémolysines, anticorps cytophiles) sont absents.
