Conversion of p-hydroxyphenylpyruvic acid into homogentisic acid: possible participation of p-quinol intermediates.

A proposed intermediate in the metabolic transformation of p-hydroxyphenylpyruvic acid into homogentisic acid has been synthetized. In an experiment with radioactive material in pig liver homogenate it could be shown that this compound does not occur as a free intermediate.     

Isolation of di-N-2-propylpentyl phthalate from human urine

Summary A higher percentage of di-N-2 propylpentyl phthalate isolated from the urine of the normals and a lower quantity in the patients suffering from Eales' disease accompanied with the occurrence in patients of another compound which is also most likely a phthalate ester has been correlated with the Eales' disease.Acknowledgement. Isolation of crystalline aldosterone from the urine of a nephrotic patient

Zusammenfassung Es ist erstmals gelungen, Aldosteron aus menschlichem Urin zu isolieren. Eine Fraktion des 13-Tage-Harnes von einem Knaben mit Nephrose und massiven Ödemen ergab 1,0 mg dieses biologisch hochaktiven Hormons in kristallisierter Form. Da der Gesamtgehalt gegen 3 mg betrug, stellt solcher Harn ein geeignetes Ausgangsmaterial dar zur extraktiven Gewinnung von Aldosteron. Letzteres erwies sich in seinen Eigenschaften als identisch mit Aldosteron aus Rinder-Nebennieren.

Zusammenfassung Der Natrium-retinierende Faktor aus dem Urin zweier Patienten mit Stauungs-Herzfehlern wurde in kristallisierter Form isoliert und mit Aldosteron identifiziert.

Isolation of 2-S-cysteinyldopa and 2,5-S,S-dicysteinyldopa from the urine of patients with melanoma

Zusammenfassung Im 24-h-Urin von Frauen mit der seltenen Itai-itai-Krankheit wurde das gleiche ₂-mikroglobulin nachgewiesen, das auch bei chronischer Cadmium-Intoxikation ausgeschieden wird.     

Isolation of type II epithelial cells from rabbit fetal lungs by adherence on an IgG-coated surface

The lung is comprised of about 40 different cell types, of which only 15% are type II cells. These are the major, if not the sole, source of synthesis and secretion of lung surfactant. To date a large number of methods have been described for the isolation of pure populations of type II cells using a wide variety of techniques, but most of these have employed differential centrifugation methods and have used adult rodents. The present study reports the isolation of type II cells from fetal rabbit lungs by the immunoglobin G plating method. Pure populations of fetal type II cells in high yield and with good viability were obtained by the procedure for the first time from rabbit fetal tissue.

The determination of orotic acid in the blood serum by means of the spectrophotometric method

Zusammenfassung Das Prinzip des Orotsäurenachweises beruht auf der Deproteination des Serums mittels Uranylessigester und der Verwandlung der Orotsäure durch Bromation in 5,5-Dibrombarbitursäure und nachfolgende Debromation in Barbitursäure. Letztere ergibt mitp-Dimethylaminobenzaldehyd ein intensiv gefärbtes Produkt, 5-(p-dimethylaminobenzyliden)-Barbitursäure.
