Summary The phospholipid ofN. asteroides has been investigated. It was found to contain phosphatidyl ethanolamine, cardiolipin, phosphatidyl inositol and a family of mannophosphoinositides. Dimannophosphoinositides with 3 and 4 moles of fatty acid per phosphate residue represented the major glycophospholipids besides small amounts of other more glycosylated mannophosphoinositides.  相似文献

Subcellular distribution of total phospholipids and mannophosphoinositides (mannosides) was examined in Mycobacterium smegmatis ATCC 607 during its transition from the early exponential to the stationary phase of growth. There was relatively more of these substances in the cell membrane than in the cell wall, and the total amount increased with the age of the culture. Among individual mannosides, dimannophosphoinositides (dimannosides) were distributed equally in the cell wall and membrane. However, hexamannophosphoinositides (hexamannosides) were more predominant in the cell membrane, and the level increased with the age of the culture.  相似文献

Phosphatidyl choline and phosphatidyl ethanolamine represented the bulk of the phospholipids, whereas phosphatidyl serine, phosphatidyl inositol, lysolecithin and lysophosphatidyl ethanolamine were present in minor amounts. Summary The lipid composition ofMicrosporum gypseum has been studied. The lipids amounted to 10.1% and phospholipids to 1.1% of the mycelial dry weight. Phosphatidyl choline, phosphatidyl serine and phosphatidyl ethanolamine were the major components, while lysophosphatidyl choline, and phosphatidyl inositol were present in smaller quantities. Neutral lipids consisted of monoglycerides, diglycerides, triglycerides, free and esterified cholesterol.Acknowledgments: Thanks are due to Prof. P. A 36-kDa phospholipid transfer protein (PLT-PR), which preferentially transfers phosphatidyl choline (PC) compared to phosphatidyl inositol (PI), was purified 827-fold from rabbit lung homogenate. Incorporation of cholesterol in unilamellar vesicles reduced the PC transfer activity of PLTPR. Dipalmitoyl phosphatidyl choline uptake by alveolar type II cells was increased in the presence of the protein, and further enhanced in the presence of surfactant liposomes. However, a decrease in uptake was noted with cholesterol in host membranes. Incorporation of PI into host membranes had a low stimulatory effect on the process. All these effects were more pronounced in adult type II cells compared to premature, term and 3-day-old pups. Received 12 September 2001; accepted 11 October 2001  相似文献

Summary The transport of lipid in the haemolymph of the Monarch butterfly during its fall migration was examined. Diglyceride was the major lipid class of 2 electrophoretically distinct lipoprotein fractions in both males and females. Triglycerides, hydrocarbons, free fatty acids, phosphatidyl cholines and phosphatidyl ethanolamines were minor components of these lipoproteins. Differences in lipid transport attributable to sex were not detected.This study is a contribution of the Missouri Agricultural Experiment Station, Journal series No. 8520.  相似文献

Summary The phospholipid composition ofAncylostoma caninum has been examined. Phospholipids amounted to 0.9% of the wet weight of the parasite. Ethanolamine and choline containing lipids comprised about 76% of the total phospholipids. Lysolecithin, sphingomyelin, phosphatidyl inositol and phosphatidyl serine were present in minor amounts. A phosphatidyl serine-amorphous calcium phosphate complex has been synthesized as a model of the matrix vesicle system that is associated with the induction of mineral deposition in bone, cartilage and dentine. The complex has been studied using a novel technique of subtractive extended X-ray absorption fine structure (EXAFS). This enables spectra of the components of the molecules to be subtracted from the complex so as to identify the sites of interaction. The results suggest there is a movement in the nitrogen atom of the phosphatidyl serine which approaches the calcium atom in the mineral phase. This interpretation would link the membrane structure of the vesicle to the structure of the mineral in a way that could explain some of its roles in biomineralization. The adsorption of dipalmitoyl phosphatidyl choline (DPPC) by chrysotile fibers was carried out by chemical and photoelectron spectroscopy analysis. The adsorption isotherms have shown that maximum adsorption was about 130 microgram of DPPC per milligram of chrysotile. Significant differences were observed both in the total lipid phosphorus per g (dry weight) of cells, and in the relative percentages of individual phospholipids. Summary The hemolytic activity of Trypanosoma congolense appears to be due to the presence of free fatty acids generated by the action of phospholipase A on endogenous phosphatidyl choline. Some lysolecithin also contributes to the lytic activity. Trypanosoma lewisi, being devoid of phospholipase A does not generate free fatty acids and is therefore non-hemolytic.This research was supported by the International Development Research Center.  相似文献

Summary The effect of growth temperature on the phospholipid composition of Nocardia polychromogenes has been examined. When the growth temperature was decreased from 37°C to 27°C, there was a large decrease in phosphatidyl ethanolamine with an increase in cardiolipin and phosphoinositides. Homeoviscous adaptation of membrane fluidity is known to exist in fish living at great depths. Is this adaptation also present in fish living near the surface but experimentally acclimated to high pressure? The composition of mitochondria-rich fractions extracted from the livers of eels acclimated for 15 days at 101 ATA was determined. The results show that pressure induced a significant increase (+100%) of total phospholipids (PL) and cholesterol without a change in their ratio. The increase of PL content was accompanied by a decrease in phosphatidylcholine in favour of phosphatidyl ethanolamine which, due to its preference for the H11 form, is able to compensate for the loss in fluidity induced by pressure.  相似文献

A cytosolic 23kDa protein was initially puified from bovine brain and shown to bind phosphatidylethanolamine. Later, it was also characterized in rat and human brain, and it is now known to be widespread, having been found in numerous tisues in several species. Here, we report the high level of mRNA and phosphatidyl ethanolamine binding protein expression in rat testis and to a lesser extent mouse testis. In human testis, although it was not detectable by Northern blot analysis, the mRNA was shown be present when PCR amplificatin was performed. Immunohistochemical experiments revealed that the testicular phosphatidylethanolamine binding protein (tPBP) is principally expressed in the elongated spermatids of both rat and mouse testis. This finding, and the association of tPBP with cellular membranes, suggest its possible implication in membrane remodelling during spermatid maturation.  相似文献

Anandamide triggers various cellular activities by binding to cannabinoid (CB1/CB2) receptors or vanilloid receptor 1 (VR1). However, the role of these receptors in anandamide-induced apoptosis remains largely unknown. Here, we show that SR141716A, a specific inhibitor of cannabinoid receptor (CB1-R), did not block anandamide-induced cell death in endogenously CB1-R expressing cells. In addition, CB1-R-lacking Chinese hamster ovary (CHO) cells underwent cell death after anandamide treatment. SR144528, a specific inhibitor of CB2-R also failed to block anandamide-induced cell death in HL-60 cells. Capsazepine, a specific antagonist of VR1 could not prevent anandamide-induced cell death in constitutively and endogenously VR1 expressing PC12 cells. Moreover, anandamide noticeably triggered cell death in VR1-lacking human embryonic kidney (HEK) cells. In contrast, methyl-beta cyclodextrin (MCD), a membrane cholesterol depletor, completely blocked anandamide-induced cell death in a variety of cells, including PC12, C6, Neuro-2a, CHO, HEK, SMC, Jurkat and HL-60 cells. MCD also blocked anandamide-induced superoxide generation, phosphatidyl serine exposure and p38 MAPK/JNK activation. Thus, our data imply a novel role for of membrane lipid rafts in anandamide-induced cell death.  相似文献
