Increasing number of photoinductive cycles markedly influenced the activity of 5 different aminotransferase systems as compared to non-inductive cycles. The relative roles of conflicting zeitgebers [presence/absence (PA) cycles versus light/dark (LD) cycles] on entrainment of circadian rhythm of locomotor activity were tested in pups of the night active mouse Mus booduga. During the early days of the pups' life the PA cycles of the mother acted as a zeitgeber and entrained their activity rhythm, even though the LD cycles were available. Entrainment by LD cycles took place only when the pups' eyes opened and probably became functional.  相似文献

Summary The aperiodic activity patterns of bilobectomized cockroaches can largely be described by simple stochastic regularities: a) there are no correlations between the lengths of successive activity bursts and rest pauses, b) the probabilities for the transition from activity to rest and from rest to activity are time-independent. Summary InBlaberus fuscus, combined light/dark-warm/cold cycles induce a rhythm of moulting. Most of the moults take place in the middle of the dark cold phases. Because of a stable phase-relation between moulting time and endocuticle growth rhythm, the latter is synchronized with the environmental cycles, too; lamellated layers are deposited during the light warm phases, which correspond to the time of resting of the cockroaches. Therefore, the cuticle growth is internally synchronized with rhythmic locomotory activity and metabolic rhythms.  相似文献

Summary Pineal N-acetyltransferase (NAT) activity in the ground squirrel, a diurnal mammal, was found to have a daily fluctuation with peak activity during the dark time. This same daily change is found in nocturnal mammals and diurnal birds. NAT may play an important role in keeping track of light and dark cycles.Support was provided by NSF PCM-76-09682 to S. Summary The electrically induced motility of isolated segments of guinea-pig sciatic nerves is reported. This motility was characterized by waves of tensional variations. Because of their natural adherence to the climate and pronounced seasonal cycles, prices of field crops constitute an interesting field for exploring seasonal time series models. We consider quarterly prices of two major cereals: barley and wheat. Using traditional in‐sample fit and moving‐window techniques, we investigate whether seasonality is deterministic or unit‐root stochastic and whether seasonal cycles have converged over time. We find that seasonal cycles in the data are mainly deterministic and that evidence on common cycles across countries differs for the two commodities. Out‐of‐sample prediction experiments, however, yield a ranking with respect to accuracy that does not match the statistical in‐sample evidence. Parametric bootstrap experiments establish that the observed mismatch is indeed an inherent and systematic feature. Copyright © 2008 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

The pineal has been identified as a major circadian pacemaker within the circadian system of a number of lower vertebrates although other pacemaking sites have been implicated as well. The rhythmic synthesis and secretion of the pineal hormone, melatonin, is suggested as the mechanism by which the pineal controls circadian oscillators located elsewhere. Both light and temperature cycles can entrain the pineal melatonin rhythm. The pineal, therefore, acts as a photo and thermoendocrine transducer which functions to synchronize internal cycle with cycles in the environment. A model is presented which portrays the pineal as a major component of a 'multioscillator' circadian system and which suggests how these multiple circadian clocks are coupled to each other and to cycles of light and temperature in the external world.  相似文献

采用声波时差法计算沾化凹陷沙三、沙四段的地层压力。发现异常高压纵向上存在两个独立的异常高压系统,规模较大、持续活动强的断层往往是异常高压区的边界,并起到泄压的作用。平面上,以洼陷为中心形成异常高压区,向外逐渐过渡为正常压力带。从沙三上段至沙三四上段,异常高压范围经历了一个扩张-萎缩的旋回,沙三下段凹陷内异常高压分布面积达到最大。对沾化凹陷新生代沉降史及生排烃史的研究表明,较高的沉积速率及有机质生烃是沾化凹陷异常高压发育的主要因素。构造作用通过断层泄压、控制沉积速率及有机质展布起到对异常高压分布直接或间接的控制作用。  相似文献

Pubertal development in female deer mice, Peromyscus maniculatus, was stimulated by exposure to light cycles of LD 16:8, LD 6:30 or LD 6:54, but not by exposure to cycles of LD 6:18 or LD 6:42. These results support the hypothesis that female deer mice use a circadian rhythm of responsiveness to light to measure photoperiodic time.  相似文献
