Fixation of certain heterogenous antigenic substances on bacterial cells and endospores

Zusammenfassung Bakterielle Schüttelkulturen binden aus der Kulturflüssigkeit Hefeantigen, welches durch zweimaliges Waschen der Bakterien nicht entfernt werden kann.B. megaterium-Sporen werden durch Lysozymbehandlung von allen Resten der vegetativen Zellen befreit; sie binden das Enzym aber so stark, dass sie in Kaninchen, selbst nach fünfmaligem Waschen mit destilliertem Wasser, ausser Sporenantikörpern auch Lysozymantikörper produzieren.     

The toxic effects of certain mutagenic substances on three species of acridids

Summary The toxicities of 4 alkylating agents (EMS, MMS, DES and MNU) were compared using 5th instar males ofLocusta migratoria cinerascens. The substances in order of (decreasing) toxicity were: MMS, MNU, DES and EMS. Treatment of different species, strains, stages and sexes revealed that the toxicity of EMS is not invariant with respect to these factors. Acridids compared to most insects are extremely radiosensitive; this study shows that they are mutagen-sensitive also.     

On the nature of some smooth muscle active substances from the platelets

Zusammenfassung In einer früheren Arbeit wurde das Thrombozytolysin beschrieben, eine Substanz, die aus Pferde-Thrombozyten nach Einwirkung des homologen Thrombozytenantikörpers freigesetzt wird. Die in dieser Arbeit berichteten experimentellen Resultate berechtigen zur Schlussfolgerung, dass das Thrombozytolysin mit Serotonin (5-hydroxytryptamin) nicht identisch ist.     

On the topographical differences in the localization of certain enzymes in trigeminal ganglion cells of rat

Zusammenfassung Es wird über die topographische Verschiedenheit der Verbreitung diverser Enzyme in den Trigeminus-Ganglien von Ratten berichtet. Die Bedeutung der peripheren Verteilung von alkalischer Phosphatase und adenosiner Triphosphatase, der perinukleären und allgemeinen Verteilung von Cytochrom-Oxydase, Succinodehydrase und saurer Phosphotase in den Neuronen wird besprochen, ebenfalls die Verteilung spezifisch cholinesterase-positiver Zellen und die cyclische Verteilung von 5-Nukleotidase in einigen Zellen.

On the significance of the rostral process of bipolar neurosecretory cells in the caudal neurosecretory system of certain catfishes

Summary Neurosecretory substance has been identified in the rostral process of bipolar neurosecretory cells of the caudal neurosecretory system in 4 Indian catfishes, using acid violet stain. The role of the rostral process in the transmission of the neurosecretory substance is discussed.We thank Prof. U.S. Srivastava, Allahabad University, for laboratory facilities and useful suggestions. The importance of radioactivity in geoscience and mining

Almost simultaneously with Roentgen rays, natural radioactivity was discovered. Its investigation led to important fundamentals of the geosciences: petrophysics, terrestrial heat flow, isotope geology, and absolute geological chronology. In applied geophysics and geology, exploration of radioactive ores and of tectonic faults, and radiometric well loggings, are used. Production of radioactive water and mining for uranium ores are discussed, including their development (especially in the Saxon ore mountains) and the consequences on health (radon in underground air and houses). Disposal of radioactive waste is touched on briefly.

Résumé A l'aide de techniques chromatographiques on a pumettre en évidence dans la peau deBufo adulte, outre plus de pigments fluorescents déjà connus, le bufo-chrome donnant de l'acide 2-amino-4-hydroxy-ptéridine-6-carboxylique par oxydation, le bufo-chrome 2 et deux substances à fluorescence jaune, le bufo-yellow 1 spécifique de l'espèceBufo et le bufo-yellow 2 qu'on retrouve chez d'autres amphibiens.     

Investigation of the circulation with fluorescent substances

Zusammenfassung Es wird eine neuartige Methode zum Studium der Blutzirkulation in derbem und weichem Gewebe beschrieben. Ein fluoreszierender Stoff wurde intravenös injiziert, das Präparat tiefgefroren, mit einem Hobel geglättet und dann photographiert.
