The precipitation of cytochrome C with a lipidic fraction from tissues and yeast

Riassunto Nel corso di ricerche sopra l'azione esplicata da alcune frazioni lipidiche sulla succinossidasi presente nei mitocondri di fegato di ratto, l'autore ha osservato che il citocromo C aggiunto al sistema precipita in presenza della frazione contenente lecitine cefaline e fosfatidi, estratta dal lievito o dal fegato di animali diversi.Di questo materiale è stata compiuta l'analisi elettroforetica su carta che non ha rivelato proteine migranti. L'analisi cromatografica su carta non ha mostrato aminoacidi liberi, ma dopo idrolisi 6–10 aminoacidi sono evidenziabili. Il precipitato risultante dalla unione della frazione lecitinica con il citocromo C è stato analizzato per il suo contenuto in P ed in N comparativamente ai materiali di origine. Detto precipitato è solubile solo in etere e la curva spettrofotometrica del citocromo C in queste condizioni appare modificata rispetto alla norma.La frazione lecitine non precipita in presenza di albumina di uovo e di emoglobina umana, mentre dà un forte precipitato in presenza di solfato di Fe e di citrato ferrico ammoniacale.L'attività biologica del citocromo C si annulla completamente con la precipitazione.

Effect of X-irradiation on phosphorylase activity in tissues of pregnant mice

Résumé Les niveaux de phosphorylase du foie et du placenta maternels oscillent, mais chez les souris, ceux du foie foetal augmentent constamment pendant la grossesse. L'effet des rayons X sur la phosphorylase du foie foetal est relativement plus élevé.     

Cholesterol content and cholesterol esterifying activity of various organs in guinea pigs

Summary In various organs of the guinea pig, the total cholesterol content of an organ was significantly correlated with the percentage of esterified cholesterol present in this organ. Cholesterol esterifying capacity was shown in most organs, with highest activities in the adrenals, the spleen and the liver. The significant correlation found between the cholesteryl ester content of an organ and its acyl cholesterol acyltransferase activity suggests a possible role of this enzyme in determining the level of the total and esterified cholesterol in a tissue.This work was supported by a grant Crédit aux Chercheurs du Fonds National de la Recherche Scientifique of Belgium.Acknowledgments. Biological activity of vernoflexuoside on the basis ofAllium test

Summary Biological activity of vernoflexuoside (Vf) a new sesquiterpene lactone glucoside, isolated fromVernonia flexuosa Sims was investigated by means ofAllium test. Vf showed cytostatic activity and produced mitotic disturbances as well as symptoms of nuclear structure degeneration.     

Effects of hypo- and hyperthyroidism on the activity of cystathionase in mammalian parenchymatous organs during early development

Summary In rats after neonatal thyroid destruction, cystathionase in liver and pancreas increased, but the enzyme activity in kidneys decreased. Substitution with thyroxine corrected these changes. Excess of thyroxine, too, had an effect on tissue cystathionase.     

Distribution of polyamine oxidase activity in rat tissues and subcellular fractions

The activity of polyamine oxidase (PAO) in rat tissues, and its subcellular distribution, were assayed using a simple polarographic method. The highest PAO activity was measured in the liver and the lowest in the skeletal muscle. In liver, kidney and uterus the highest specific PAO activity was found in the light mitochondrial fraction. PAO was not found in the microsomal fraction except in the kidney.
