Immunocytochemistry of pituitary corticotroph cells in terrestrial turtle (Testudo mauritanica)]

The immunocytochemical and histochemical characters of the corticotroph cells of the Turtle adenohypophysis have been studied. These cells are localised in the rostral part of the gland and are revealed by Is anti ACTH (1-24) and (17-39). They are also colored with lead hematoxyline and PAS-Orange G. The corticotroph nature of these cells is confirmed by the study of their modifications after treatment with amphenone and ACTH. The Is anti ACTH also reveal most of the cells of the pars intermedia; while the Is anti beta-MSH reveals only these cells and some scatter cells of the pars distalis.     

Immunocytologic differentiation of hypophyseal innervation in carp using anti met-enkephalin and anti-alpha-endorphin serums]

The immunocytological reactions with anti-met-enkephalin and anti-alpha-endorphin reveal two types of fibres in the intermediate lobe of the Carp. Their pathways through the adenohypophysis and the localization of their terminals are different. The anti-met-enkephalin positive fibres terminate mainly in a zone close to the proximal pars distalis; however some fibres terminate deeper in the intermediate lobe. The anti-alpha-endorphin positive fibres penetrate mainly in the central and ventral part where thye are more numerous than the former. It seems that the anti-met-enkephalin positive fibres belong to the gomori positive preoptico-hypophyseal tract, whereas the anti-alpha-endorphin positive fibres are gomori negative.

Summary The ultrastructural study of the frog cornea revealed the existence of intraendothelial nerve fibres. These nerve fibres are unmyelinated elements but surrounded by cytoplasmic lamellae of Schwann cells.Supported by D.C.I.N.P. Grant 78-77.     

Immunocytology of alpha-endorphin positive hypothalamic fibers of Carassius auratus L. and Cyprinus carpio L.]

An immunocytological study of the basal hypothalamus of Carassius auratus and Cyprinus carpio with an alpha-endorphin antiserum shows the different nerve processes belonging probably to the immunoreactive cells of the lateral part of the N.L.T. According to their pathways, two main fibre tracts have been distinguished: many fluorescent fibres converge towards the pituitary gland into which they enter, other fibres run caudally through the tuber towards the nucleus tuberis inferior (Baumgarten and Braak) where they could not be followed further.     

Immunocytological localization of peptide analogs of alpha-endorphin in several neurons of the lateral nucleus tuberis of Carassius auratus L. and Cyprinus carpio L.]

Neurons of the pars lateralis of the N.L.T. of Carassius auratus and Cyprinus carpio display a positive immunocytological reaction with an anti alpha-endorphin serum. It is assumed that the peptides produced by these neurons are similar, if not identical, with alpha-endorphin, but their morphinomimetic properties have still to be established. Peptides of this kind may participate in the regulation of pituitary functions.     

Inclusion of Gross virus cell surface associated antigen in liposomes]

The Gross virus associated cell surface antigen GCSAa was extracted from (C58NT)D cells by solubilization of membranes with detergent and partially purified. This antigen was entraped in liposomes. Absorption experiments of the cytotoxic activity towards EmaleG2 cells of a W/Fu anti (C58NT)D serum showed the presence of the antigen at the surface of sensibilized liposomes.

A study of the effects of the lanthanide series of ions on toad skeletal muscle fibres reveals that they a) inhibit the twitch response, b) exhibit a marked dependence on ionic radius, and c) apparently exert their effects on the sarcolemma.

Summary In shoots ofLinum perenne apical growth was observed at both ends of the fibres. Their rounded tips, rich in protoplasm, protude into the middle lamellae of adjacent fibres or parenchyma cells. In addition to their apical growth, the fibre walls undergo symplastic growth with the walls of neighbouring cells. The formation of the pointed ends of fully developed fibres is described.     

Inhibition of sensitized leukocyte's in vitro reactivity by circulating immune complexes in prostate cancer

Circulating immune complexes in the sera of patients with confirmed histological diagnosis of carcinoma of the prostate, were found to interfere in the sensitized leukocyte's in vitro reactivity to prostate cancer associated antigen as evaluated by tube leukocyte adherence inhibition assay, thereby suggesting an inhibitory role of such serum factors in host's anti tumor cell mediated immune responses.

Summary We demonstrated, in the pituitary of the animals examined, fibres which emerge from the Tr. hypothalamo-hypophyseal system and enter partly into the Pars intermedia and partlyvia the Pars tubularis into the Pars distalis and take their course directly towards the glandular cells. In the Pars distalis the nerve fibres end around the glandular cells in a special pericellular net.     

Enzymatic activities of muscle fibres differentiated,in vitro,from pectoralis major (white) and adductor magnus (red) muscles of chick embryos

Summary Specific activities of NADP isocitrate dehydrogenase and acetylcholinesterase were significantly higher in muscle fibres differentiated, in vitro, from myoblasts of adductor magnus (red) than pectoralis major (white) muscles 10-day-old chick embryos. This is evidence, as far as enzyme activities, are concerned, that myoblasts from different types of skeletal muscles are able to give, in tissue culture, muscle fibres of different properties, even in the absence of nerve supply.Supported by a grant No. 75 7 1641 from the French Délégation à la Recherche scientifique et technique.     

Immunofluorencence localization of secretions related to gonadotropic, corticotropic, melanotropic and somatotropic hormones in hypophysis of Nectophrynoides occidentalis]

In Nectophryno?des occidentalis, ovine anti-LH anti beta (1-24) corticotropin, both anti alpha and anti beta MSH and bovine anti-STH antisera allowed us to identify by immunofluorescence gonadotropic, corticotropic, melanotropic and somatotropic hypophysial cells of a viviparous toad. The identification of these different cell types was confirmed by applying a classical cytologic technique to the same sections.     

A new stimulation technique of the crista ampullaris of the lateral canal in the adult cat: Study of the action potential of the vestibular nerve

Summary The stimulation of the crista ampullaris of the lateral canal by a short ampullopetal liquid flux produces on the pre-ganglionic vestibular fibres the appearance of a bimodal action potential. The amplitude of this action potential increases with the intensity of the stimulation. This stimulation also provokes the birth of an evoked potential at the level of the vestibular nuclei as well as an ocular jerk.Supported by the D.G.R.S.T. grant 77.7.0669 and I.N.S.E.R.M. (A.S.R. Impaired apoptosis in lymphoblasts from Alzheimer’s disease patients: Cross-talk of Ca<Superscript>2+</Superscript>/calmodulin and ERK1/2 signaling pathways

We have analyzed the intracellular signals that allow lymphoblasts from Alzheimer’s disease (AD) patients to escape from serum deprivation-induced apoptosis. The following observations suggested that modulation of ERK1/2 activity by Ca²⁺/calmodulin (CaM) is involved in preventing apoptosis: (i) ERK1/2 activity seems to support lethality in control cells, as PD98059, the inhibitor of the activating MEK prevented cell death; (ii) control cells show a persistent and higher stimulation of ERK1/2 than that of AD cells in the absence of serum; (iii) CaM antagonists have no effects on control cells, but sensitize AD cells to death induced by serum withdrawal and increased ERK1/2 phosphorylation, and (iv) no apoptotic effects of CaM antagonists were observed in AD cells treated with PD98059. These results suggest the existence of an activation threshold of the ERK1/2 pathway setting by Ca²⁺/CaM-dependent mechanisms, which appears to be the critical factor controlling cell survival or death decision under trophic factor withdrawal. The maximization test applied on the Hartley Guinea Pig and the mast cell degranulation test performed on the sensibilised Guinea Pig serum resulted in: 1, extreme allergenicity; 2, the formation of circulating antibodies anti delta9 THC.     

Serological study of Ia antigens determined at the I-A and I-E sub-regions of the H-E complex in the H-2 complex of mice

Immune serum B10.S (7R) anti-B10.S (9R)(anti I-JEkCd) contained as expected an anti-Ia7 antibody. A series of weaker but reproducible extra-reactions might recognize Ia3 specificity coded at the I-A subregion of the H-2 complex. Results with recombinant haplotypes confirmed this mapping. Such a reactivity could be interpreted as an interlocus cross-reaction (I-E/I-A) since the immunization was induced against an I-E subregion product. Another interpretation was possible: the immune serum would thus contain an antibody recognizing Ia7 (on the E alpha k Ia chain) and another antibody recognizing an antigenic determinant carried by the E beta k Ia chain. The latter antibody might recognize by cross-reaction as specificity carried by the A beta chain of various haplotypes (H-2b,k,q).

Electron microscopic examination of the developing ovary of 15-20-day chick embryos revealed that the interstital cells well innervated. Nerve fibres and nerve endings were observed in close contact with steroid-producing cells.
