The primary objective of this review was to assess the size and consistency of Royal Jelly (RJ) effect on serum lipids in experimental animals and humans. The data from animal studies were pooled, where possible, and statistically evaluated by Student's t-test. Meta-analysis was used for the evaluation of human trials. It was found that RJ significantly decreased serum and liver total lipids and cholesterol levels in rats and rabbits and also retarded the formation of atheromas in the aorta of rabbits fed a hyperlipemic diet. Meta-analysis of the controlled human trials of RJ to reduce hyperlipidemia showed a significant reduction in total serum lipids and cholesterol levels and normalization of HDL and LDL as determined from decrease in β/α lipoproteins. The best available evidence suggests that RJ at approximately 50 to 100 mg per day, decreased total serum cholesterol levels by about 14%, and total serum lipids by about 10% in the group of patients studied.  相似文献

The process of assembly and secretion of lipoproteins is discussed with particular reference to the role of lipids. The majority of circulating lipoproteins is produced by the liver (80%) with the remainder being supplied by the intestine. The liver secretes both very low density lipoproteins and high density lipoproteins, but the assembly and secretion of these two types of particles may follow different routes. The major lipid components of lipoproteins are triacylglycerols, cholesterol, cholesterol esters and phospholipids. The biosynthesis of these lipids occurs on membranes of the endoplasmic reticulum, with many of the enzymes also being present in the Golgi; the roles of these two subcellular organelles in the assembly of lipoproteins are discussed. There appears to be a compartmentalization of lipids in cells, such that defined pools, often those newly-synthesized, are preferred, or even required, for lipoprotein assembly. The process of hepatic very low density lipoprotein secretion appears to be regulated by the supply of lipids. Indeed, the synthesis of new lipid may be a major driving force in lipoprotein assembly and secretion.  相似文献

Summary Feeding of ethanol and a high fat-high cholesterol diet to rats markedly increased the total lipids in the liver, and cholesterol and triglyceride levels in the serum, liver and kidneys. However, when ethanol mixed with 0.5% garlic oil was fed to animals maintained on the high fat-high cholesterol diet, these lipid levels were significantly reduced to levels near to those seen in untreated control rats. Garlic oil did not reduce the serum albumin or the total proteins of liver, kidneys or serum when fed along with ethanol. Probably the garlic oil enhances the catabolism of dietary cholesterol and fatty acids.The authors acknowledge with thanks the financial assistance of the University of Maiduguri for carrying out this project.  相似文献

Administration of garlic oil (100 mg/kg b. wt/day) for 1 month together with the HF-HC diet to another group almost nullified the lipid-increasing and albumin-decreasing effects of that diet. The reduction in total lipids, cholesterol and triglycerides and the restoration to normal level of serum albumin were highly significant in the garlic oil group. Pretreatment of pregnant mice with aminoglutethimide phosphate, an inhibitor of glucocorticoid synthesis, increases the content of fetal liver erythroid colony-forming cells (CFU-E), as assessed by the formation of erythroid colonies in vitro by fetal liver cells in plasma clots containing exogenous erythropoietin. In addition, the inability of aminoglutethimide to influence erythroid colony formation in vitro suggests that endogenous glucocorticoids exert a suppressive effect on the number of functional CFU-E in the fetal liver.  相似文献

Summary Intramuscular injection of 17 -estradiol to pregnant rabbits did not produce any significant change in the phospholipid, neutral lipid and cholesterol content of the fetal brains, nor did it cause any significant difference in their wet and dry weights. It may be inferred that use of estrogen in the gestational period to enhance surfactant production and lung maturation in the fetus would not produce adverse effects on the fetal brain lipids.  相似文献

The egg shell (with cuticle) of the ostrich contained a total lipid concentration of 0.19 mg/g egg shell; the phospholipids constituted the major portion, among the neutral' lipids cholesterol esters, cholesterol and free fatty acids were identified. The egg shell lipids showed a stimulating effect on the crystal growth of calcium carbonate; the highest rate of crystal growth was observed with the phospholipid fraction.  相似文献

The possible induction of fatty liver by Rifampicin has been investigated by oral administration of two different doses (200 and 400 mg/kg/24 h) of this antibiotic for a period of 8 days to male and female Rats. The results obtained are more constant and more coherent in male than in female. It is the 400 mg/kg/24 h dose which is more effective, leading to an increase of lipids, triglycerides and cholesterol in the liver and a decrease of serum triglycerides. A dose-effect relationship may exist. These preliminary data lead us to believe that Rifampicin may inhibit the synthesis of the protein moiety of lipoproteins, such as alpha-Amanitin, which is also a RNA-polymerase inhibitor.  相似文献

Summary Genetically obese, diabetic and hypercholesterolemic C57BL/6J-ob/ob mice were placed on Purina Laboratory Chow containing 2% cholesterol for up to 4 months. They developed higher plasma cholesterol levels and accumulated an increased quantity of cholesterol in the liver but failed to develop atherosclerotic lesions in the aorta as would be expected in an obese, diabetic and hypercholesterolemic human adult.Acknowledgments. Summary After i.p. application of 1, 0,5 and 0,1 mg p,p' DDT, labelled with3H or14C, to pregnant mice in different stages of pregnancy, the same level of radioactivity was found in the fetal and maternal blood. Starvation for 2 days caused a significant increase of residues, especially in the liver. Residue levels of DDT and its metabolities DDE, DDD, DCB and (DDOH+DDA) are found in fetal and maternal blood, brain liver and fat.  相似文献

Summary Plasmatic levels of total proteins, total lipids, phospholipids, triglycerides, free cholesterol and cholesterol esters, were measured in rainbow trout (Salmo gairdnerii Rich) after adrenaline administration and confronted with control values. A large increase of total lipids concerning all the fractions studied, and specially triglycerides, was noted. The comparatively small increase of total proteins indicates a selective modification of lipoproteins release.  相似文献

Thyro-parathyroidectomy of pregnant Rats at 12.5 days of gestation decreased maternal liver glycogen on 21.5 days of gestation and fetal weight as well as fetal liver glycogen stores. The graft of one parathyroid gland or the injection of 1 alpha-hydroxycholecalciferol in these thyro-parathyroidectomized mothers increased their liver glycogen stores at 21.5 days of gestation. These treatments also markedly increased both fetal weight and fetal liver glycogen stores. It was concluded that maternal 1,25-dihydorxycholecalciferol, which is synthesized under the control of parathyroid hormone secretion, controls fetal growth and liver glycogen stores. The mechanism of these effects (direct or indirect) requires further investigations.  相似文献

Summary Spermatogenesis is reported to be completely inhibited by 5-thio-D-glucose in mice. In an investigation of this inhibition, testicular lipid constituents, namely, total lipids, phospholipids, triacylglycerol, free and total cholesterol, 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl-coenzyme A reductase and NADPH generators like glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase, intubation for 21 days. Significant increase in cholesteryl ester, glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase activity and malic enzyme and a decrease in free cholesterol and phospholipids were observed.Acknowledgments. Glucose uptake into kidney tissue is not influenced by the development of glomerulosclerosis in KK mice. Glucosyltransferase activity remains at a normal level even at an age having a highest incidence of serious development of glomerulosclerosis. The observation suggests that biosynthesis of basement membrane reflected by its glucosyltransferase activity does not accelerate in genetically transmitted microangiopathy.  相似文献

PGE1 increases cholesterolemia without lipemia modifications. In bile there are not modifications in cholesterol levels and total lipids appear diminished. PGE2 raise the lipemia and have no effect in cholesterolemia, moreover bile cholesterol and total lipids exhibit no changes. Both PGE1 and PGE2 decreased the bile volume.  相似文献
