Activation of cardiac vagal receptors during myocardial ischemia

Toutefois cette excitation n'a lieu que lorsque le coeur est déjà défaillant à cause de l'ichémie. La stimulation effective paraît être de nature mécanique.

Fusion polypeptides in gene cloning: potential problems due to conformational alterations at the junction

Many eukaryotic genes are cloned in bacterial hosts as fusion polypeptides. Prediction of the secondary structures for some common prokaryotic fusion polypeptides shows that many junction sites correspond to important secondary structures. It is suggested that such structures could affect (hinder, etc.) the conformation or drive the folding of the neighboring eukaryotic counterparts. Thus the prokaryotic junction should be better performed in random coil regions, or short fusion prokaryotic polypeptides should be used.     

Rodent preimplantation stages: Mounting ’in toto’ and alterations due to anisotonic solutions

Zusammenfassung Anisotonische Lösungen verursachen bei der Durchführung histochemischer Reaktionen an freien Eiern von Nagern Artefakte. Es wird eine einfache Montagetechnik nach Durchführung der Reaktion beschrieben, bei der intrazelluläre Veränderungen vermieden und weder Form noch Grösse der Eier durch Anisotonie verändert werden. Die Technik erlaubt jede Art von Fixation und jede Reaktion, solange das Reaktionsprodukt wasserunlöslich ist.

The metabolism of methadone by cultured mammalian cells.

Rat hepatoma tissue culture cells and mouse leukemic cells were found to metabolize [1-3H] methadone to at least 2 unidentified radioactive compounds. These results suggest that cultured cells may be useful models for studying methadone metabolism by specific cell types.     

Embryonic death in mouse due to lead exposure.

Female mice which displayed a vaginal plug after mating were given a diet containing 0, 0.125, 0.250, 0.500% of lead as lead acetate and were dissected 16 to 18 days later. Lead treatment was found to reduce significantly the incidence of pregnancies and to increase the postimplantation loss in the pregnant females.     

Steroid metabolism by mouse preimplantation embryos in vitro.

Mouse preimplantation embryos were incubated with radioactive pregnenolone, progesterone or dehydroepiandrosterone for various periods of time. These substrates were not converted to metabolites even after incubation of 120 h. We suggest that preimplantation mouse embryo does not possess enzyme activities for steroid metabolism.

Les propriétés physico-chimiques de la protéine, après action ultrasonique, ressemblent fortement aux propriétés originales de la fibrinogène humaine en voie de sédimentation; mouvement électrophorétique et adsorption sur la cellulose DEAE.     

Inhibition by food restriction of the renal damage due to corticoid-overdosage

Zusammenfassung Bei Ratten, die durch einseitige Nierenexstirpation und 1% NaCl als Trinkflüssigkeit sensibilisiert wurden, war die Nephrosklerose, die normalerweise durch das Desoxycorticosteronacetat (DOCA) hervorgerufen wird, durch gleichzeitige Zufuhr von Cortisolacetat (COLA) noch verstärkt. Einschränkung der Nahrungszufuhr kann die Produktion von Nephrosklerose durch DOCA vollkommen verhindern, Unterernährung hat jedoch viel weniger Einfluss auf das Entstehen derartiger Nierenveränderungen nach gleichzeitiger Behandlung mit DOCA und COLA.     

Sex-dependence in triglyceride metabolism in response to dietary carbohydrates.

In humans, as well as in mice, fed on high carbohydrate diets, there was a significant sex difference in the plasma tirglycerides in that males had higher levels than females. This was mainly due to the difference in their removal rate of circulating triglycerides in the animals of both sexes. In mice, males had higher levels of liver triglycerides as well as higher rate of incorporation of U- 14C-glucose into liver triglycerides when compared to females.

Suppression by ascorbic acid of neuromuscular fatigue due to sound-alcohol synergy]

The interaction between effects of ethanol ingestion and those of infrasound on neuro-muscular fatigue in the animal is abolished by ascorbic acid. The relevant mechanism is in acetaldehyde detoxification.
