Zusammenfassung Die Hemmwirkung von 6-Azauracilribosid auf die Vermehrung des Vaccina-Virus in Gewebekulturen wurde festgestellt. Die Substanz blieb gegen andere Viren (Influenza A, NDV, EEE) wirkungslos.

Résumé Les mutants au locusm de l'Arabidopsis ne réussissent pas à former de chloroplastes normaux dans certaines conditions et montrent des activités plus hautes en synthèse de pyrimidines que le témoin. La nutrition aseptique par 6-azauracile, inhibiteur spécifique de cette voie métabolique, restaure la différenciatin de structure lamellaire dans la plupart de ces organites, mais aux concentrations élevées, apparaissent des chloroplastes morphologiquement déviants, quoique de fonction efficace.     

Inhibition ofSaccharomyces cerevisiae division by 5-trifluoro-methyl-6-azauracil

Summary Cell division, as studied in asynchronous cultures of yeast cells, is sensitive to 5-trifluoromethyl-6-azauracil (F₃CAzU). Under defined conditions (10 mmoles l^–1 F₃CAzU) this compound blocks immediately and completely the process of cell division. Using synchronized cells, the time-point at which division process of yeast cell can be inhibited by F₃CAzU has been determined. The inhibitor effect of this compound is completely reversed by thymine, thymidine and uracil.

Zusammenfassung Es wurde die kanzerostatische Wirkung des 6-Azauracils auf den Ehrlich-Aszites-Tumor beschrieben und mit der Wirkung des 6-Mercaptopurins verglichen.     

Inhibitory effect of 5-bromo-6-azauracil on growth and cell division ofSaccharomyces cerevisiae

Summary The most marked effect of 5-bromo-6-azauracil (BrAzU) on yeast cells is to cause cell lysis. The inhibition of the lytic process is delayed and this delay coincides in time with the capacity of preformed pyrimidines to reverse the effect of BrAzU.     

Reduction of serum X-prolyl dipeptidyl-aminopeptidase activity in tumour-bearing mice and reversal of reduced enzyme activity by lentinan,an anti-tumour polysaccharide

Summary Serum X-prolyl dipeptidyl-aminopeptidase activity which had been shown to be depressed in cancer patients was clearly reduced in mice with Ehrlich carcinoma and Sarcoma 180, and slightly reduced in mice with methylcholanthrene-induced sarcomas. The reduced enzyme activity was completely reversed during tumour regression of sarcoma 180 by administration of lentinan, which causes regression of sarcoma 180.

Modulation of antibody synthesis by an anti-tumour alga

Summary An unicellular alga,Chlorella pyrenoidosa, which had been reported to protect C₃H mice against sarcoma BP8, is shown, when injected in Freund's incomplete adjuvant, to modulate the antibody synthesis induced by immunization with a hapten-carrier complex.C. pyrenoidosa appeared to be able to initiate an antigenic competition between hapten and carrier determinants of the antigen molecule during antibody synthesis, and thus it could be speculated thatC. pyrenoidosa modulates the immune response at the macrophage level.Acknowledgments. The ultrastructural localization of the G-6-P hydrolyzing enzyme activity in Kupffer cells

Zusammenfassung Die Aktivitätsverteilung eines Glukose-6-Phosphat hydrolysierenden Enzyms wurde in der Leber 24 Stunden alter Ratten elektronenmikroskopisch untersucht. Die Verteilung der Enzymaktivität in den Kupffer-Zellen schien mit der in den Hepatozyten gefundenen identisch zu sein.     

The activity of erythrocyte glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase as an indicator of the rate of erythropoiesis

Zusammenfassung Bei 29 Patienten mit verschiedenen hämatologischen Affektionen wurde eine positive Korrelation zwischen Glucose-6-phosphatdehydrogenase-Aktivität der Erythrozyten und dem Erythrozyten-Eisenumsatz gefunden.     

The effect of 4-amino-5-imidazolecarboxamide on the synergistic antineoplastic activity of 6-chloropurine and azaserine

Zusammenfassung 4-Amino-5-imidazolcarboxamid hat eine antagonistische Wirkung auf die synergistische Tumorhemmung, die sich aus der gemeinsamen Anwendung von 6-Chlorpurin und Azaserin ergibt. Dies steht im Einklang mit der Fähigkeit des 4-Amino-5-imidazolcarboxamids, auch die Hemmung des Einbaues von C¹⁴-Format in das Guanin von Polynucleotiden, durch 6-Chlorpurin hervorgerufen, teilweise zu unterbinden.     

Effect of fluoride administration on renal glucose-6-phosphatase activity in rats

Summary Renal glucose-6-phosphatase activity was found to be significantly elevated by fluoride administration (NaF 35 mg/kg, i.p.).
