Zusammenfassung Die vorliegende Arbeit soll die Begriffe der «Fruchtbarkeitssubstanz» und des «hemmenden Ektohormons» näher bestimmen. Nach unserer Ansicht können aktivierende und hemmende Faktoren einander entgegengesetzte Wirkungen haben. Das Vorhandensein einer Fruchtbarkeitssubstanz bzw. eines trophischen Faktors geht aus unseren Versuchen ebenso wie aus denjenigenMüssbichlers hervor; dies steht aber nicht im Gegensatz zur Wirkung des hemmenden Faktors, der aus dem Tegument der Königin gewonnen werden kann. Auf Filterpapier dargeboten lösen diese Tegumentextrakte ein charakteristisches Verhalten der Arbeitsbienen aus (Antennenbewegungen, Strecken des Rüssels). Die Reizung der Antennen, die mit der oralen Aufnahme des Ektohormons verbunden ist, scheint für die Hemmung der Ovarialentwicklung bei Arbeitsbienen notwendig zu sein.

Summary (1) The present paper deals with the chromosomial cytology of 11 species and underspecies ofMuridae. (2) The diploïd number being the same (2N=42), there are striking differences between two species ofBandicota, B. indica showing about 20 big metacentric chromosomes which are lackingB. bengalensis. (3)Meriones blackleri is characterized by 72 chromosomes, the species previously described possessing either 44 or 60 elements. (4) The study ofPhenacomys ungava confirms the view that 56 (54) is the primitive number in theMicroti. There is an interesting parallelism between the morphological and the cytological data. (5) A missing link betweenMicroti andEllobii has been found inMicrotus oregoni which possesses 17 chromosomes, its digamety belonging to the typeX-O, X-X. (6) Owing to the fact thatM. oregoni is more fossorial than the otherMicrotus, it is a morphological intermediate betweenMicroti andEllobii. (7) The genusChilotus (Baird) is also fully valid.

Summary A preliminary report is given on the use of sound spectrographic techniques for the study of the non-verbal means at the disposal of the newborn child or the small infant to express itself to the environment. Certain types of signals were found to be common in the non-verbal cry of different infants. A typical sonogram is described in detail.

Analyses chromatographiques des corticoïdes extraits du liquide amniotique d'une femme diabétique

Summary Paper chromatography was applied to corticoids extracted from amniotic fluid of a diabetic mother.Normal amniotic fluid contains no 17-hydroxycorticosterone and cortisone, as defined by paper chromatography.The extract of amniotic fluid of a diabetic mother, insulin treated from the 4^th month and giving birth to a child with a congenital anomaly of cervical vertebras (Klippel-Feil syndrome) and with typical Cushing aspect, has been chromatographed. It contains 25–50µg of 17-hydroxycorticosterone and cortisone. The protein content of this fluid was 0.7 g %.

I mitocondri contengono tutta l'attività citocromossidasica e succinodeidrogenasica, mentre i microsomi solo una metà della attività DPNH cit. c riduttasica totale. Spettri differenziali hanno rivelato la presenza, nei microsomi, di un citocromo avente una banda a 428–430 mµ.

Summary Tobacco, cultivated under glass, does not produce any rutin and only about a seventh of the normal amount of chlorogenic acid. UV-treatment increases the formation of chlorogenic acid up to the normal level, while the synthesis of rutin cannot be stimulated. In addition there is a conspicuous morphogenetic influence in the UV-treated plants.

Summary The blood pressure is not disturbed by a local injection of norepinephrine into the hypothalamus, but the excitability of vasopressor centres is affected. Often, the excitability of these centres is decreased; sometimes, it is increased, and, more rarely, it is first potentiated and then inhibited. Epinephrine has the same action, but dopamine is less potent; isoprenaline produces both facilitation and inhibition of these centres, but the facilitating effect is more frequent than with norepinephrine.     

Séparation par chromatographie sur papier des 21 sulfates de corticostéroïdes

Summary The 21-sulfates of the six following corticosteroids: desoxycorticosterone (DOC), corticosterone (B), 11-dehydrocorticosterone (A), cortisol (F), cortisone (E), and 17 hydroxy-11-desoxycorticosterone (S), were prepared. Their separation by four different paper chromatographic systems was investigated. A method for detection of the spots is described.

Papier-Elektrochromatographie der Aminosäuren des Blutserums

Summary A simple method for paper-electrochromatography of free aminoacids of blood serum is given. In the first direction of the separation a normal apparatus for paper electrophoresis of serum proteins at low voltage is used. The aminoacids are separated into neutral, acid and basic components according to their mobility in the electric field, and are separated in the second direction by means of the descending technique on a chromatogram sewn to the electropherogram.
