Autoradiographic localization of the uptake of 3H-beta-alanine in rat nervous tissue cultures.

Autoradiographic studies on the uptake of 3H-beta-alanine have shown that, in spinal cord and brain stem cultures, both neurones and glial cells have accumulated the amino acid. In contrast, in cultures of cerebellum and dorsal root ganglia, 3H-beta-alanine was only t aken up by glial elements.     

Autoradiographic localization of testosterone-3H in the female rat brain and estradiol-3H in the male rat brain

Zusammenfassung Eine halbe Stunde nach der i.v. Injektion wurde Testosterone-³H von den Nerven- und Glialzellen innerhalb des Gehirns der weiblichen Ratte und Estradiol-³H innerhalb des Gehirns der männlichen Ratte aufgenommen. Zwei Stunden nach der Injektion war die Aufnahme in hohem Masse nur noch in gewissen Teilen des hypothalamisch-limbischen Systems vorhanden.

Autoradiographic localization of radioactivity in female rat neocortex after injection of tritiated estradiol

Zusammenfassung Durch autoradiographische Untersuchung wurde die Einlagerung von Radioaktivität in ein begrenztes Gebiet des Neocortex der Rattenweibchen nach einmaliger Verabreichung von³H-Östradiol im Alter von 5 bis 50 Tagen nachgewiesen. Die reduzierten Silberkörner zeigen eine vorwiegend perinukleare Akkumulation, was für die Zellen der östrogen-Zielgewebe typisch ist.     

Demonstration of specific receptors for angiotensin III in rat adrenal glands]

Distinct and specific binding sites for 3H-angiotensin II (A II) AND 3H-angiotensin III (A III) have been demonstrated in Rat adrenal gland preparations. A III binding sites have the highest affinity (KD29C1-2.10(-10)M) for the 2-8 heptapeptide. This suggests the possibility of a separate and distinct physiological role for the 2-8 heptapeptide, mediated via such A III binding sites.     

3H-vitamin A and rat thyroid: Autoradiographic observations

Résumé Des études autoradiographiques démontrent la présence de radioactivité dans les cellules folliculaires et dans la colloïde de la thyroïde du rat à la suite de l'injection intrapéritonéale de l'acétate rétinyl-³H (acétate de la vitamine A). La radioactivité de la colloïde se manifeste seulement dans le tissu congelé vivant; elle disparaît lors de la préparation histologique ordinaire. Par contre, une partie de cette radioactivité reste liée aux cellules folliculaires, même après la préparation histologique habituelle.

Zusammenfassung Die Verteilung von aus 5-Hydroxy-Tryptophan entstandenem Serotonin in der Zirbeldrüse von Affen wird beschrieben.     

Differentiation in vitro of chick embryo adrenal glands

Resumen Suprarrenales de embriones de pollo de 6 y 10 días de incubación, fueron cultivadas en medios con y sin el agregado de ACTH. Los cultivos fueron mantenidos por períodos de 6–12 días. Los explantos fueron estudiados con técnicas histoquímicas para lípidos y ésteres de colesterol. Las suprarrenales de embriones de 6 días acumulan lípidos y colesterol solamente cuando son cultivadas en medios con ACTH. Luego de 12 días de cultivo la mayoría de las suprarrenales de los embriones de 10 días pierden su contenido de lípidos si han sido cultivadas en un medio privado de ACTH. El agregado de la hormona previene esa péridida. Se discuten las implicancias fisiológicas de estos hallazgos.     

The conversion of H3-tyrosine to H3-DOPA in the adrenal glands under in vivo conditions

Zusammenfassung Nach i.v. Injektion von H³-Tyrosin und Blockung der DOPA-Dekarboxylase wurde H³-DOPA in den Nebennieren von Hähnchen und Katzen mit Hilfe einer Kombination von papierhochspannungselektrophoretischen und chromatographischen Methoden nachgewiesen. In anderen Organen war dagegen H³-DOPA nicht nachweisbar. Bei den Katzen konnte gezeigt werden, dass H³-DOPA in den Nebennieren nicht gespeichert, sondern zum weitaus überwiegenden Teil an das venöse Blut abgegeben wird.

Riassunto Le colture primarie di surrene di Ratto adulto si prestano molto bene a studi morfologici e funzionali mediante tecniche di indagine diverse (microscopia ottica ed elettronica, istochimica, autoradiografia, biochimica). Sono stati effettuati studi originali sulla coltura di tessuto surrenale dopo permanenza prolungata in azoto liquido e sull'isolamento di linee cellulari differenziate di cellule corticali.

Allotransplantation of rat parathyroid glands: Effects of organ culture and transplantation into the adrenal gland

Summary Allotransplantation of fresh, 1 or 2 week cultured parathyroid glands from Wistar rats (AgB²) to Fischer rats (AgB¹) resulted in prompt rejection of the transplant in the muscle site; whereas transplantation into the adrenal site offered slightly prolonged survival, suggesting that the latter is a privileged transplantation site.Acknowledgments. Role of adenosine A1 and A2 receptors in the regulation of aldosterone production in rat adrenal glands

To investigate the roles of adenosine A1 and A2 receptors in the regulation of aldosterone production, we examined the effects of adenosine and adenosine agonists (N6-cyclohexyl adenosine; selective adenosine A1 receptor agonist and 5'-N-ethylcarboxamine adenosine; selective adenosine A2 receptor agonist) on aldosterone and cyclic AMP production in rat adrenal capsular cells. Neither adenosine nor 5'-N-ethylcarboxamine adenosine caused significant effects on basal aldosterone or cyclic AMP production. Also, adenosine (10(-3) M) showed no consistent effects on aldosterone and cyclic AMP production induced by ACTH. On the other hand, N6-cyclohexyl adenosine exhibited a significant inhibition of basal aldosterone and cyclic AMP production at doses of 10(-4) M and 10(-3) M; furthermore, 10(-3) M N6-cyclohexyl adenosine inhibited aldosterone and cyclic AMP production stimulated by ACTH. These results suggest that adenosine A1 receptors are coupled to and inhibit adenylate cyclase and may be involved in the inhibition of aldosterone production.
