Histochemical characterization of the red fibres in pigeon pectoralis muscle

Summary Red fibres of the pigeon pectoralis muscle showed high ATPase reaction at pH 9.4. Veronal-acetate pretreatment completely inhibited the ATPase reaction in these red fibres but not in type I fibres of the gastrocnemius. The former are type II red muscle fibres and hence are unlike type I red, the so-called slow-twitch muscle fibres.     

Histochemical differentiation of skeletal muscle fibres in the bovine foetus

Zusammenfassung Die Entwicklung der histochemischen Unterschiede in den Muskelfasern von Rinderfeten wurden mittels der Succinodehydrogenaseaktivität untersucht. Nach 155–175 Trächtigkeitstagen wurden helle und dunkle Fasern beobachtet, doch sind die Unterschiede erst nach 200 Trächtigkeitstagen deutlich. Die intermediären Fasern treten erstmals nach 215 Trächtigkeitstagen auf. Die Muskeln M. gastrocnemius, rectus femoris und longissimus dorsi zeigen eine gleichmässige Entwicklungsfolge.

Histochemical demonstration of primary catecholamines in pacinian corpuscles of the cat

Résumé En utilisant la méthode de fluorescence de Falck, on constate que les corpuscules de Vater-Pacini montrent la fluorescence caractéristique des catécholamines primaires. L'intensité de la fluorescence est plus marquée dans le corps central des corpuscules nerveuses, moins dans les lamelles et absente dans la fibre nerveuse.

Zusammenfassung Dehydrase- und Succinodehydraseaktivität werden mittels histochemischer Methode durch Tetrazoliumsalze in Kernen der Hühnererythrocyten dargestellt. Das Vorhandensein der Formazankristalle beschränkt sich vor allem auf die innere Oberfläche der Kernmembrane. Die Bedeutung dieser Entdeckungen im Zusammenhang mit dem Succinodehydrase-Mitochondrien-Verhältnis wird kurz besprochen.

Zusammenfassung Carboanhydraseaktivität in Mastzellen der Ratte wurde mittels Modifikation der Methode vonHäusler ⁴ demonstriert. Kapillarendothel, Basalzellen des Zungenepithels und Muskelgewebe reagierten ebenfalls positiv.     

Histochemical changes in upper motor lesions,parkinsonism and diuse. Differential effect on white and red muscle fibres

Zusammenfassung Muskelbiopsiematerial aus Patienten mit motorischen Störungen bei Verletzung der Pyramidenbahn, Parkinsonismus und Kreuzbandverletzung wurde mit histochemischer Technik analysiert. Eine Atrophie der weissen Fasern wurde bei Pyramidenbahnverletzung und Parkinsonismus beobachtet. Kreuzbandverletzung ergab hauptsächlich Atrophie der roten Fasern, während diese bei dauernder Spastizität und Rigidität Hypertrophietendenzen zeigen.

The histochemical method for AMP deaminase confirms that rat slow-twitch fibres contain less AMP deaminase activity than fast-twitch fibres. However, the enzyme appears similarly localized in all fibre types.

Electro-mechanical noise in atrial muscle fibres of the carp

Summary Steady membrane voltage fluctuations have been observed in atrial muscle fibres of the carp. These voltage fluctuations produce minute mechanical oscillations, as revealed by an interference contrast microscope. The steady voltage fluctuations may be related to abnormal automaticity in the heart.Supported by the U.S. Israel Binational Science Foundation, Jerusalem, and is part of a thesis to be submitted by Ms Akselrod to the Tel-Aviv University.
