Exceptionally preserved fuxianhuiids from the Cambrian （Stage 3） Hongjingshao Formation in Kunming,southern China

Recently,Nature published a paper （Nature 2013, 494： 468--471. ） entitled ＂Specialized appendages in fuxianhuiids and the head organization of early euarthropods＂, by Prof. Zhang Xiguang and coworkers from Yunnan University. The newly discovered Xiaoshiba Lagerstatte from the early Cambrian （Stage 3） Hongjingshao Formation of Kunming is associated with many articulated trilobites, which are representa- tives of either later Qiongzhusian or early Canglangpuian.

Both China and the world materials community have greatly benefitted from his service

Recently we learned from our colleagues in China that Professor Shi Changxu has received the highest national scientific award from the President of China.It is a great honor to have this opportunity to celebrate with Professor Shi on such an auspicious occasion. I came to know Professor Shi,when I first returned to China in the early eighties and we have since become good friends.Over the past few decades,I have come to learn that he is an extremely dedicated researcher with a very strong sense of how to help China develop its science and technology capabilities     

Dinosaur Footprint Fossils Discovered in Xinjiang

Recently, a Chinese-German science fieldwork investigation team, composed of staff from the Sino- German Paleontology and Geography Joint Lab and the Xinjiang Geological Work Station, announced that they discovered a batch of dinosaur footprint fossils in the dessert 20 kilometers to the east of Shanshan County in the Turpan Basin, Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region. These fossils spread around an area of 100 square meters and scientists believed that these footprints were left behind by carnivore dinosaurs. This major discovery has been published in Global Geology, an English journal published by the North- East Asia Geology Center.     

Sperm DNA methylome is inherited during zebrafish early embryogenesis

A recent study showed that besides DNA sequences, sperm DNA methylome is also inherited in ze- brafish early embryos. This was discovered by a team led by Professor Liu Jiang from Beijing Institute of Genomics, Chinese Academy of Sciences. The findings were published as a cover story in Cell （2013, 153 （4） ： 773--84）.     

Long-Range Topological Order in Metallic Glass

In June 17th issue of Science,Professor Jiang Jianzhong of Department of Material Sciences,Zhejiang University and his colleagues published a paper titled "Long-Range Topological Order in Metallic Glass". Prof.Jiang has received sustained support from NSFC since 2003. This article was co-authored by an international group of 9 researchers. According to the article,glass lacks the long-range periodic order that characterizes a crystal.In the Ce75Al25 metallic glass(MG),however,they discovered a long-range topological order corresponding to a single crystal of indefinite length.Structural examinations confirm that the MG is truly amorphous,isotropic, and unstrained,yet under 25 gigapascals hydrostatic pressures,every segment of a centimeter-     

New Method for Early Cancer Diagnosis

The NSFC funded Key Program project ＂A real-time analysis of the early diagnosis of cancer markers＂, undertaken by Changchun Institute of Applied Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences （CAS）, recently received recognition from an expert team for assessment. Experts pointed out that the research was of great value for the fast ascertain of cancer markers and the early warning and diagnosis. The research team was headed by Academician Wang Erkang, CAS and Prof. Kong Jilie, Fudan University.
