Summary Pituitary cells increase their numbers more than 3-fold during the 1st 10 days of life while maintaining the same cell size ratios. In the 25-day-old animal, the rate of cell division slows and there is a slight increase in the number of larger cells. An increase in adult weight is attributed to hyperplasia and a shift to a population of larger cells.Supported by NIH grant HD08844.  相似文献

Summary Alrestatin at 25–1×10–4 M inhibited the accumulation of cyclic AMP induced by prostaglandin E2, but not theophylline, in the rat anterior pituitary in vitro. Somatostatin, at lower concentrations, inhibited both; maximal inhibition of the prostaglandin effect was greater with alrestatin. As cyclic AMP is considered to be a mediator in induced-hormonal release, it appears from the present findings that alrestatin may be of potential use in altering hormonal release.The author acknowledges the technical assistance of Miss C. Summary We investigated the relationship between prolactin content and DNA replication in the anterior pituitary gland. Thymidine incorporation in pregnant rats is significantly lower than in virgin controls. This is accompanied by a decreased activity of DNA polymerase. Sulpiride administration to pregnant rats enhances thymidine incorporation to levels similar to virgin controls. The results indicate a negative feedback between prolactin content and DNA synthesis in the rat anterior pituitary gland.We are grateful to Prof. Carlos J. Zusammenfassung Die Ablagerung von neurosekretorischem Material in der unmittelbaren Umgebung von Blutgefässen im Hypophysenstiel, die mit Gefässen des Vorderlappens in Verbindung stehen, wird beim Hund beschrieben. Aus diesem Befund wird auf die Möglichkeit geeshlossen, dass die von den Zellen der Nuclei supraopticus und paraventricularis produzierte neurosekretorische Substanz nicht nur in die Gefässe des Hypophysenhinterlappens abgeschieden wird und im Körperkreislauf die sogenannten Hinterlappenhormone abgibt, sondern auch in den Pfortaderkreislauf des Vorderlappens gelangt und dort die Absonderung von Hormonen, wie zum Beispiel ACTH, bewirkt.

Regulation of B and T cell development by anterior pituitary hormones   总被引:5,自引:0,他引:5  
Hormones produced by the anterior pituitary gland have been implicated in the regulation of primary lymphocyte development. In order to identify endocrine factors involved in that process, several strains of mice with genetic defects resulting in a selective impairment in the production of one or more anterior pituitary-derived hormones have been analysed. This study has resulted in the classification of endocrine hormones into the following four categories (i) hormones such as prolactin with no apparent effects on primary lymphopoiesis; (ii) anabolic hormones such as growth hormone and insulin-like growth factor-I whose stimulatory effects on primary lymphopoiesis are non-lineage-specific and related to their actions as systemic mediators of growth and/or differentiation; (iii) hormones such as thyroid hormones that have an obligate role in primary B lymphopoiesis; and (iv) hormones such as oestrogens that act as negative regulators of lymphopoiesis.  相似文献

Summary The effect of different environmental temperatures on adenyl cyclase was studied. An increase in temperature appears to increase TRH-induced activity of adenyl cyclase, and possibly causes an increased sensitivity to the hormone. The effect of dynorphin A-(1-13) (Dyn A-(1-13] and other opioids on the cytosolic free calcium concentration [(Ca2+]i) in rat anterior pituitary cells was examined using the fluorescent indicator fura-2. A commercial synthetic Dyn A-(1-13) preparation elevated [Ca2+]i. Results, which were obtained with receptor antagonists, and in LHRH receptor radioligand binding studies as well as by HPLC combined with LHRH radioimmunoassay, strongly suggest that this effect of the dynorphin preparation was due to contamination with a LHRH-like compound. Dyn A-(1-13), purified by HPLC, as well as Dyn A-(2-13), [Leu5]enkephalin, beta-endorphin, morphine, or U50,488H had no effect on [Ca2+]i. LHRH caused a rapid increase in [Ca2+]i by about 50 nM which was blocked by the LHRH antagonist, [D-pGlu1,D-Phe2,D-Trp3,6] LHRH.  相似文献
