The problem of detecting a free glutamate decrease in the dorsal sensory neuron following dorsal root crush

Summary Dorsal root crush results in a highly significant decrease in the free glutamate/total free amino acid concentration ratio over an extended time period. Identification of a third subdivision of the dorsal spino-cerebellar tract

Zusammenfassung Aktionspotentiale einzelner Fasern des Funiculus dorsolateralis des Rückenmarks wurden registriert und dabei nach Axonen gesucht, die antidrom von der Kleinhirnrinde erregt werden konnten. Es gelang die Identifizierung einer dritten Unterabteilung der dorsalen spino-cerebellaren Bahn. Diese Neurone werden sowohl durch Muskelafferente der Gruppen II und III als auch durch Hautund Gelenkafferente erregt. Zwei andere aufsteigende Bahnen, deren Zellkörper unterhalb des caudalen Endes der Clarkschen Säule liegen und deren Axonen sich in dem Funiculus dorsolateralis befinden, erreichen die Kleinhirnrinde nicht.     

Substance P-like immunoreactivity in the frog dorsal root ganglia

Summary The distribution of substance P-like immunoreactivity was studied in the thoracic dorsal root ganglia of the frogRana esculenta by immunohistochemistry. Substance P-like immunoreactivity was contained in approximately 50% of primary sensory neurons. The immunoreactive fibers arising from the cell bodies are collected in small bundles within the ganglia neuropil before entering the central and peripheral roots.

Identification of GABA accumulating neurons in the dorsal raphe nucleus]

A possible GABAergic innervation of the nucleus raphe dorsalis (NRD) was investigated by measuring glutamate decarboxylase activity in the NRD after lesioning the afferents of this nucleus. The slight decrease found in the enzymatic activity suggests that these afferents have a minor participation in the GABA innervation of the NRD and implies the existence of an intrinsic GABAergic system in this nucleus. This local innervation was demonstrated by radio-autography and shows fibers, axonal varicosities and cell bodies which accumulate 3H GABA in the caudal part of this nucleus.

Lens regeneration from the dorsal iris inEurycea bislineata,the two-lined salamander

Summary Following lens removal from the eye of adultEurycea bislineata, the northern (USA) 2-lined salamander, it was found that this salamander has the capacity for lens regeneration. Its widespread distribution and high percentage of regenerative success suggests it as a suitable organism for the study of this differentiative phenomenon.This research was supported by N.I.H. grant EY-02534 from the National Eye Institute. Electrical responses to taste chemicals across the dorsal epithelium of bullfrog tongue

Stimulation of the bullfrog tongue with taste chemicals produced a slow change in transepithelial potential difference across the dorsal epithelium. The potential profile was in many respects similar to that of the intracellularly recorded potential changes in taste cells and to the activity of taste fibers in frogs.

Studies on modality segregation and second-order neurones in the dorsal funiculus

Zusammenfassung Der dorsale Funiculus der Katze wurde elektrophysiologisch untersucht und es wurde nachgewiesen, dass primäre Afferenzen welche verschiedene Sinnesmodalitäten vermitteln, in verschiedenen Teilen des Funiculus verlaufen. Eine bisher unbekannte Gruppe von synaptisch aktivierten Nervenfasern wird diskutiert.     

Fluoride-resistant acid phosphatase system of nociceptive dorsal root afferents

Zusammenfassung Fluorid-resistente saure Phosphatase wird aus den kleinen (dunklen) Nervenzellen des Spinalganglions mittels axoplasmatischer Strömung durch die Hinterwurzeln in die Rolando-Substanz des Rückenmarkes transportiert, wo das Enzym in den Nervendendigungen eine freie axoplasmatische Lokalisation aufweist.
