Studies on the cytochemical localization of adenylate-cyclase activity in Dugesia lugubris s.I.

The localization of adenylate-cyclase activity in Dugesia lugubris s.1. has been investigated cytochemically using 5'-adenylyl-imidodiphosphate as substrate. The enzyme was localized in mucous gland cells, in rhabdite cells, in intercellular spaces and also in nerve endings of this planarian. The presence of adenylate-cyclase on the membrane suggests that it might mediate different stimulus-secretion coupling by increasing cyclic AMP synthesis in specialized areas of the planarian.     

Normal adenylate-cyclase activity in platelets of patients with Huntington's disease

Summary Adenylate-cyclase activity and cyclic-AMP concentration in platelets of 7 Huntington's disease patients were found to be similar to control values.     

Studies on the activity of phorbol myrystate acetate on the human polymorphonuclear leukocytes.

Phorbol myrystate acetate (PMA) activates nitroblue tetrazolium reduction in human polymorphs. The activation is inhibited by dibutyryl cyclic AMP, theophylline and phenylbutazone, but is not influenced by hydrocortisone in vitro, nor is it inhibited by leukocytes from patients treated with prednisone. Peptide analogues of Tuftsin also had no effect on this stimulatory activity. We conclude that the action of PMA on the nitroblue tetrazolium reduction is mediated through cyclic nucleotides.     

Histochemical and cytochemical observations on the acetylcholinesterase (AChE) localization in the superior cervical ganglion (SCG) after preganglionic sympathectomy of the neonatal rat.

Results of histochemical and cytochemical reactions show that after the section of preganglionic nerve trunk performed in newborn animals, the appearance and the individual increase in AChE activity in non-innervated nerve cells follow the pattern of normally innervated ganglion cell.     

Arginine-vasotocin and gonadal activity in the lizard,Podarcis s. sicula Raf.

Summary Arginine-vasotocine (AVT) injected into male adult lizards,Podarcis s. sicula Raf., inhibits the last phases of spermatogenesis and the endocrine activity of gonads. In female lizards the substance induces an early interruption of egg deposition.     

Presence of ATPase on the vesicular membrane ofCysticercus cellulosae. A high resolution cytochemical study

Summary ATPase was demonstrated by high resolution cytochemistry in the microtriches ofC. cellulosae. Comparative studies on the trichomonacidal activity of 5-nitroimidazole-derivatives in mice infected s.c. or intravaginally with T. vaginalis.

The trichomonacidal efficacy of metronidazole, tinidazole, nimorazole and ornidazole was studied in mice infected s.c., or for comparison purposes intravaginally. In both test systems, the drugs revealed nearly the same order of efficacy, whereby the compounds showed a marked decrease of activity when analyzed in s.c. infected mice.

Studies on DNA methylase activity in mammalian tissue

Resumen Para aislar nucleo de mamíferos que contienen DNA metilasa actividad se utilizó como medio homogenizante 0.25M sucrosa-1×10^–2 M EDTA. Hígado de rata y el hepatoma de Reuber demostraron cantidad equivalente de actividad enzimática. Se observó aproximadamente 100% de inhibición con amoníaco 0.15M, los iones de Mg no mostraron efecto.     

Effect of the inhibition of "NADH-diaphorase" activity on the ultrastructural localization of 3 beta-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase]

The NADH-ferricyanide oxidoreductase ("NADH-diaphorase") activity can be inhibited selectively with 0.5 mM p-chloromercuribenzoate, and the reduction of the potassium ferricyanide can be restored with an exogenous electron carrier (PMS). These operations do not affect the localization of the final precipitate of copper ferrocyanide which results from 3beta-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase activity.

Studies on the late-pre-beta-lipoprotein of human serum.

Very low density lipoprotein (VLDL) isolated from 3 healthy normolipidaemic subjects had a raised VLDL cholesterol to triglyceride ratio. The VLDL fractions gave 2 pre-beta-bands on agarose gel electrophoresis. Family study of the subjects appears to indicate sex linkage of this trait and a possible polygenic type of inheritance.
