Changes in dopamineβ-hydroxylase activity of monkey plasma with age

Summary Plasma dopamine -hydroxylase activity of Japanese monkeys (Macaca fuscata fuscata) increased with age, and the developmental changes were similar to those of human beings. However, the adult level plasma DBH activity of various monkey species was much lower than that of human beings.We thank Dr.K. Nozawa, Dr.O. Takenaka and Mr.T. Shotake (Primate Research Institute, Kyoto University) for their help in collecting monkey blood samples.     

Paroxysmal discharges in the electroencephalogram of the El mouse

Summary The spike discharges in the EEG of the El mouse, a seizure-susceptible strain, were recorded during convulsive seizures. This fact provides evidence that those seizures are really epileptic convulsions.I thank Dr.K. Imaizumi and Dr.K. Nakano of National Institute of Health for their sharing the strain of El mouse to us and MissY. Nakamoto and Mr.N. Ozawa for their technical assistance and Mr.K. Moriyama for his care for the mice, and also thank Dr. H.Narabayashi for his criticism on this paper.     

Further studies on polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis of water-soluble proteolipid-protein from bovine brain white matter

Zusammenfassung Wasserlösliche, proteolipide Proteine wurden von der weissen Hirnsubstanz durch Isolierungsmethoden vonTenenbaum undFolch ² gewonnen. Ohne Lyophilisation ergab die Disk-Elektrophorese bei pH 8.3 zwei Banden.

Central course of photic input in the ventral nerve cord of scorpion (Heterometrus fulvipes)

Summary The course of the photic input from the metasoma in the ventral nerve cord of scorpion was studied. The input was found to influence the activity in a large number of neurons in the nerve cord. The phenomenon of contralateral stimulation of units at various levels of the nerve cord has heen demonstrated.Acknowledgments. Effect of butyl alcohol inDatura innoxia Mill

Zusammenfassung Die Behandlung der Samen vonDatura innoxia Mill. mitn-Butylalkohol und Temperaturschock ergibt in der nächsten Generation Pflanzen, deren Samen einen höheren Alkaloidgehalt aufweisen. Das Hauptalkaloid ist Scopolamin (Hyoscin) mit einem Anteil von 50–70% am Gesamtalkaloidgehalt.

Metabolically regulated cyclical contractures in microinjectedSpirostomum: A pharmacological study

Summary Spirostomum was treated extracellularly and intracellularly with a range of metabolites to investigate the intracellular regulation of cyclic calcium movements. Pantothenic acid distribution and protein synthesis in the particulate fractions of rat liver

Zusammenfassung Ratten wurden während 10 Wochen mit durch Pantothensäure angereicherte Nahrung oder mit Pantothensäure-Mangeldiät gefüttert. Im Anschluss daran wurden die durch Differentialzentrifugation gewonnenen Fraktionen von Leberhomogenat auf ihren Protein- und Panthothensäuregehalt untersucht. Die Resultate deuten darauf hin, dass Panthothensäure die Synthese von Leberproteinen, insbesondere in der Überstands-Fraktion, stimuliert.

Pre- and post-partum plasma amine oxidase differences in the rhesus monkey (Macaca mulatta)

Summary Plasma amine oxidase activity increased from 23.4 nmol/ml/h during pregnancy to 49.5 nmol/ml/h during an extended post partum period in 10 rhesus monkeys. In vitro metabolism of progesterone by the adrenals of spontaneously hypertensive rats

Zusammenfassung Der Einbau des¹⁴C-Progesterons in Corticosteroide bei Nebennierensegmenten von Wistar-Ratten mit spontaner Hypertonie unterscheidet sich in nichts vom Einbau bei Nebennieren der Kontrollratten, was im Gegensatz zu Befunden mit regenerierten Nebennieren steht. Eine kausale Beziehung zwischen Nebennierenrindenfunktion und spontanem Hochdruck scheint ausgeschlossen zu sein.

Localization of bovine pancreatic polypeptide (BPP)-like immunoreactivity in rat pancreatic monolayer culture

Summary Antiserum to bovine pancreatic polypeptide (BPP) has been used for immunofluorescent staining in the light microscope. With this technique it is possible to detect the presence of specific cells in monolayer culture from neonatal rat pancreas which contain BPP or a closely related peptide.This work was supported by a grant (No. 3.553.75) from the Fonds National Suisse de la Recherche Scientifique. Phosphodiesterase I. Spezifischer Nachweis nach Disk-Elektrophorese und Vorkommen in Pflanzen

Summary The -naphthylester of uridine-5-phosphate was synthesized as a specific substrate for phosphodiesterase I which allows the identification of the enzyme after disc electrophoresis. Thus, phosphodiesterase I was shown to be present in several plants, in some of which it occurs in multiple forms.

Summary The F₁- and F_nR-hybrids ofPlatypoecilus maculatus andXiphophorus helleri (Poeciliidae), producing melanomase spontaneously, contain essentially more free amino acids than the initial species. Further experiments show that the abnormally high content of free amino acids is connected with the spontaneous formation of tumors.

The role of glycine in the biosynthesis of a terpene

Zusammenfassung Mit doppelt markiertem Glycin konnte gezeigt werden, dass das Kohlenstoffatom der Methylgruppe viel besser als das Kohlenstoffatom der Karboxylgruppe in die Isoprengruppe des Ophiobolins B ausCochiobolus miyabeanus eingebaut wird. Die Radioaktivität wird in Ophiobolin B eingebaut, wenn die folgenden Verbindungen verwendet werden: [3-¹⁴C]-Serin, [¹⁴C-Methyl]-Sarcosin, [¹⁴C-Methyl]-Methionin, und [¹⁴C] Formate.
