Normal human blood treated in vitro with cephalothin. Relationship between serologic and metabolic abnormalities of red blood cells

Riassunto L'incubazione in vitro dell'antibiotico cefalotina con sangue intero determina un'anormalità metabolica degli eritrociti e la positività del test di Coombs diretto. Nel presente lavoro sono stati studiati i rapporti tra i due fenomeni e si è osservato che il primo si produce più precocemente del secondo. In base ad una serie di considerazioni, si conclude che l'effetto primo della cefalotina sugli eritrociti è una lesione della membrana, con successivo adsorbimento di alcune proteine dal plasma.

Phosphorylation of human red cell and liver pyruvate kinase. Differences between liver and erythrocyte L-type subunits

Summary Purified PK from human erythrocyte was phosphorylated by cAMP-dependent protein kinase type I from human erythrocyte membrane; this phosphorylation affected only the heavy L subunit but not the L subunit. On the other hand, the L subunit of liver PK was highly phosphorylated. Thus it appears that the L subunits from erythrocyte and liver PK are not identical protein molecules.Acknowledgments. A quantitative difference in the immune response to sheep red cells between rat strains

Résumé Des rats appartenant à plusieurs souches ont été immunisés par injection i.p. de 2×10⁸ globules rouges de mouton. La mesure du titre des haemolysines réalisée 6 jours plus tard montre des différences quantitatives selon les souches. Une réponse importante n'a pu être décelée que pour 3 d'entre elles (August, OFA et Wistar R).     

Relationship between A-type and C-type particles in Ehrlich ascites tumor cells

Summary Intracisternal and intracytoplasmic A-type particles were discovered in Ehrlich ascites tumor cells. In addition, mature and immature C-type particles were also seen in the intercellular space. N-cadherin detected in the membrane fraction of lens fiber cells

Summary N-cadherin was identified as a glycoprotein present in the fiber cell membranes of frog, chick, bovine, rabbit and human lenses. The molecular size of N-cadherin varies with the species. Homogenization of the chick lens in the presence of Ca²⁺ resulted in a decrease in the concentration of N-cadherin. This suggests that the lens contains a Ca²⁺-activated protease which can act on N-cadherin.

Relationship between lectin-affinity granules in anuran embryos and formation of primordial germ cells

Summary Embryos of the anuran,Rana nigromaculata, contained granules with a specific affinity for Con A and GS-I. Larvae derived from embryos injected with these lectins had a noticeable reduction in both the number and size of primordial germ cells (PGCs). This observation suggests that the granules are somehow involved in the formation of PGCs.
