Riassunto Uova di Anuri (Discoglossus pictus) sono state trattate con istoni. II trattamento con la frazione ricca in lisina (0,4-0,1 mg/ml) durante la segmentazione causa blocco alle prime divisioni. Con concentrazioni minori (0,05–0,025 mg/ml) lo sviluppo si arresta allo stadio di gastrula. La sensibilità al trattamento decresce notevolmente dopo la gastrulazione. La frazione ricca in arginina è risultata meno efficace.     

Specificity of potato kallikrein inhibitors for kallikreins

Summary Two polyvalent protease inhibitors, acting especially on plasma kallikrein, were isolated from potatoes. Some of their physicochemical and biological properties were investigated.

Inhibition of RNA polymerase activity by arginine-rich histones

Zusammenfassung Im Komplex mit der DNS-Matrize zeigt die lysinreiche Fraktion F1 eine doppelt so grosse Hemmung der RNS-Synthese in vitro als das argininreiche Histon F3. Demgegenüber erwies sich das argininreiche Histon F3, mit RNS-Polymerase komplexiert, wirksamer als das lysinreiche Histon F1, das heisst, dass die Inhibition mit dem argininreichen Histon F3 fünffache Steigerung und damit doppelte Wirksamkeit gegenüber F1 ergibt.     

Hydrolysis of riboflavin by plants

Résumé Il a été prouvé que l'hydrolyse de la riboflavine à l'aide d'une enzyme se produit dans les extraits de plantes appartenant aux familles desLiliacées, Amaryllidacées etCannas (ou Balisier).On a trouvé le lumichrome et le ribitole parmi les produits de l'hydrolyse. La réaction est stchiométrique, les conditions favorisant une activité optimale sont les suivantes: pH 7.4, température 37°, quantités catalytiques de glutathione reduit.     

Stabilization of DNA structure by histones against thermal denaturation

Zusammenfassung Durch grösseren Gehalt an Resthiston wird die Stabilität von Desoxyribonucleinsäure gegenüber der thermischen Denaturierung in 0.0025M NaNO₂ erhöht und die Zunahme des ntomaren Extinktionskoeffizienten (P) während der Denaturierung verringert.

Hydrolysis of N-phenylacetyl-a-methyl-alpha-amino acids by benzylpenicillinacylase

Enzymatic hydrolysis of several racemic N-phenylacetyl-alpha-methyl-alpha-amino acids containing an additional aliphatic, aromatic or polar substitutent on the chiral carbon atom, has been studied by using benzylpenicillinacylase from Escherichia coli A.T.C.C.9637. Both the rate of hydrolysis and the stereoselectivity were found to be considerably lower than in the case of natural alpha-amino acids. Steric and electronic factors in the side chains influencing the stereoselectivity are discussed. Key words. Benzylpenicillinacylase; enzymatic hydrolysis; alpha-methyl-alpha-amino acids.     

Hydrolysis of tabtoxins by plant and bacterial enzymes

Summary Tabtoxins, dipeptides that induce chlorosis in plants, are produced by several closely related phytopathogenicPseudomonas spp. Culture filtrates from these bacteria and extracts prepared from leaves of their hosts contain multiple enzymes that hydrolyze the peptide bond of the toxins.     

Hydrolysis of human leucocyte phospholipids by snake venoms

Résumé Les phospholipases A des venins du serpentVipera palestinae et duNaja naja ne clivent pas des phospholipides de leucocytes intacts, sauf en présence d'un facteur lytique se trouvant dans le venin deNaja naja. L'activité des phospholipases des deux venins sur les leucocytes endommagés n'est pas la même.     

Effects of histones on embryonic cells

Zusammenfassung Der Einfluss vom Kalbsthymus Histon (CTH) und seines diazotierten Derivatives (DCTH) auf Vitalität und Zelldifferenzierung verschiedener Gewebe des Hühnerembryos wurde geprüft. Die LD₅₀ für CTH wurde bei 25µg/ml der Zellsuspensionen festgestellt. Es wurden keine bedeutenden Änderungen in der Differenzierung der embryonalen Gewebe in Kulturen bei sublethalen Konzentrationen gefunden.
