Adaptation of the pituitary gland to prolonged LRH stimulation

Summary With prolonged constant rate infusion of luteinizing hormone-releasing hormone (LRH), the LH secretion rate of the rat pituitary gland changes continuously until a steady state of relative desensitization has developed. Recovery from this state can occur independently from changes in the pituitary's LH content.

Responses of the oculomotor units to the labyrinth stimulation under hypothermia

Riassunto E'stata studiata l'influenza del labirinto vestibolare sulla scarica unitaria del nucleo oculomotore comune durante l'ipotermia progressiva nella cavia curarizzata. Le risposte ritmiche del nucleo del III paio di nervi cranici alla stimolazione di un singolo canale semicircolare scompaiono alla temperatura corporea di 24–26 °C. Sotto questa temperatura e fino a 18 °C sono evocabili soltanto risposte di tipo tonico.     

CNS stimulation effect on the sexual maturation of the female rat

Summary In the immature rat, CNS stimulants administration to pregnant mare serum gonadotropin (PMSG) primed rats resulted in significant (p<0.01) ovarian and uterine hypertrophy when compared to animals treated with PMSG only. Meanwhile precocious puberty was produced by pentylenetetrazol treatment alone. The results of this experiment may indicate that administration of CNS stimulants has a specific action on the release of endogenous gonadotropin.Supported by NIH grant no. Riassunto Gli autori studiano la latenza e le caratteristiche elettromiografiche delle risposte muscolari provocate con stimoli capsulari nell'uomo. Le clonie provocate in muscoli in stato di leggera contrazione sono seguite in genere da una fase di rilasciamento muscolare di 50–200 msec di durata.     

Cholinergic components in the gastrin pathway of gastric acid stimulation

Summary In the isolated whole stomach of the mouse, cimetidine and atropine appear to be specific antagonists of histamine- and acetylcholine-induced stimulation of parietal cells. Interactions were demonstrated between cimetidine and gastrin, atropine and gastrin, respectively. In addition to a histaminergic pathway of gastrin stimulation, a cholinergic part, probably postganglionic, can be taken into consideration.Acknowledgments. I am indebted to Miss G.B. Nystagmus evoked by intermittent photic stimulation of the rabbit's eye

Zusammenfassung Monokuläre Reizung des Kaninchens durch Lichtblitze ruft einen Nystagmus hervor, dessen Richtung identisch ist mit der Richtung der Augenbewegungen, die durch elektrische Stimulierung des ipsilateralen Nervus opticus verursacht werden. Die anhaltende Beleuchtung des kontralateralen Auges hemmt die Nystagmusreaktion.

Riassunto Lo studio delle risposte evocate nelle radiazioni acustiche e nelle arec acustiche primarie da stimolazione delle vie uditive centrali dimostra che: (a) la trasmissione degli impulsi ascendenti a livello del corpo genicolato mediale è facilitata sia durante il sonno profondo che al risveglio mentre, (b) l'eccitabilità corticale è maggiore durante il sonno leggero.
