Total replacement of blood by an emulsion of fluorocarbon in the rat-water extravasation as a cause of failure

Summary After exchange transfusion by an emulsion of fluorocarbons (Fluosol 43) in rats, an increase in fluorocarbons and¹³¹I-labelled albumin was observed. These changes suggest a transfer of water from vascular to interstitial space possibly owing to the inability of the emulsion to reproduce the oncotic pressure of normal blood.     

Interspecific differences between the DNA restriction profiles of canine adenoviruses

Summary Identification of canine adenovirus-1 (CAV-1) and canine adenovirus-2 (CAV-2) strains was done by electrophoresis of restriction endonuclease-fragmented viral DNA. Results obtained with this sensitive and reproducible technique clearly show that CAV-2 is not a variant of CAV-1 but a distinct virus.This work was supported by grant number IAF-82-927 from the Conseil des Recherches et Services agricoles du Québec.     

Purification of diphtheria toxin by chromatography on Cibacron Blue-Sepharose

Diphtheria toxin binds to Cibacron Blue-Agarose and may be eluted by increasing the ionic strength of the elution buffer. Experiments using difference spectroscopy showed that the interaction between toxin and dye is ionic rather than hydrophobic, and therefore it is of a different nature with respect to that usually found in nucleotide-requiring enzymes.     

Purification of porcine granulosa cells by continuous Percoll gradient

Granulosa cells purified on a continuous Percoll gradient have considerably increased responsiveness to FSH in formation of cAMP, secretion of progesterone, and 125I[hCG] binding to cells incubated for 4 days in culture.     

Mapping of restriction enzyme cuts by a new two-dimensional procedure

A new procedure has been worked out to establish restriction maps. The method is fast, does not in general require labeled DNA and has been applied to map the linear palindromic rDNA of Physarum with the restriction enzyme Bst EII.

A new solid-phase synthesis of thymopoietin II by a mild procedure

Summary The solid-phase synthesis of a nonatetracontapeptide corresponding to the entire amino acid sequence of Thymopoietin II is described. Use of the recently developed, base-labile, fluorenylmethyloxycarbonyl-amino acids in combination withtert-butyl based side chain protecting groups and p-alkoxybenzyl ester peptide to resin linkage enabled the synthesis to be carried out under much milder reaction conditions than previously.
