Supernumerary (B) chromosome inAnopheles indefinitus (Diptera,Culicidae)

Summary Larval brain mitotic karyotype ofAn. indefinitus from Kanchanaburi exhibits a supernumerary (B) chromosome which is apparently common in that population. 1 or 2 B-chromosomes have been observed in the samples from 5 isofemale lines examined.Acknowledgments. Induction of chromosome aberrations and chlorophyll mutations in plants by methylisocyanate (MIC) gas

Summary Seeds ofSolanum surattense Burm. f. collected from areas of Bhopal (India) affected by methylisocyanate gas showed chromosome aberrations in root cells, and growth retardation and chlorophyll mutation of seedlings, the frequencies of which varied from one locality to another.     

A new chromosome number forBombina (Anura,Discoglossidae)

Summary The karyotype of a primitive discoglossid anuran,Bombina maxima, native to southwestern China, has 2n=28 chromosomes with 6 large and 8 small bi-armed homologous pairs. This is a higher chromosome number than described for otherBombina species, all of which have 2n=24.     

The karyotype,C-bands and AgNO3-bands of a lungless salamander from Korea:Onychodactylus fischeri (Boulenger) (Amphibia,Urodela)

The karyotype of a lungless salamander,Onychodactylus fischeri, from Korea was analyzed and compared with that of the Japanese congeneric species,O. japonicus. In both species the diploid karyotype consists of78 chromosomes, including 6 pairs of large chromosomes, 6 pairs of medium-sized ones, and the remaining 27 pairs of microchromosomes. The chromosome number ofO. fischeri, 2n=78, is, like that ofO. japonicus, the largest so far reported in the order Urodela. C-banding showed that constitutive heterochromatin inO. fischeri was mainly in the centromeric regions and near the secondary constrictions of the large chromosomes. AgNO₃-bands were located in the secondary constrictions associated with C-band heterochromatin.     

Minimal chromosome number in false spider mites (Tenuipalpidae)

Zusammenfassung Es wurde bei 3Brevipalpus-Arten mit thelytoker Reproduktion festgestellt, dass Zellen in embryonalem Gewebe nur zwei Chromosomen haben und vermutlich ein einfaches Chromosom-Komplement darstellen (n=1).     

A chromosome study ofScarites occidentalis (Coleoptera,Caraboidea)

Summary Scarites occidentalis has 2n=41 (females 2n=42), n=19+X₁X₂Y. This multiple sex-chromosome system and other karyotypic characteristics suggest that this species andS. buparius share a recent common ancestor in which the sex trivalent was probably originated.Thanks are due to Dr N. Elongated chromosomes in Pieris brassicae L. (Lepidoptera,Pieridae) after treatment with colchicine

New chromosome numbers in Australian Leptodactylidae (Amphibia,Salientia)

Summary Fra i Leptodactylidi Australiani,Cyclorana alboguttatus ha 2n=26 come le forme più generalizzate della famiglia, mentre alcune specie diLimnodynastes hanno 2n=22; specie di altri 5 generi hanno 2n=24. Fra questi ultimi, il problematicoRheobatrachus, completamente acquatico, possiede alcuni microcromosomi come i membri più primitivi dell'ordine.     

Variation in chromosome number in the sheep headflyHydrotaea irritans (Fallen) (Diptera: Muscidae)

Summary Variation in the number of chromosomes was found in sheep headflies, ranging from 12 to 15 chromosomes. Of these, five pairs were common among all individuals. Among 9 larvae no males were identified.     

W chromosome in the Indian water snake (checkered keel back)Natrix piscator (colubridae)

Prediction in the Random Effects Model with MA (q) Remainder Disturbances

This paper considers the problem of forecasting in a panel data model with random individual effects and MA (q) remainder disturbances. It utilizes a recursive transformation for the MA (q) process derived by Baltagi and Li (Econometric Theory 1994; 10 : 396–408) which yields a simple generalized least‐squares estimator for this model. This recursive transformation is used in conjunction with Goldberger's result (Journal of the American Statistical Association 1962; 57 : 369–375) to derive an analytic expression for the best linear unbiased predictor, for the ith cross‐sectional unit, s periods ahead. Effect of colchicine on long lasting synaptic modifications induced by hyperactivity

Resumen La facilitación de transmisión sináptica en un ganglio de cucaracha se puede inducir mediante hiperuso de reflejos anti-gravitatorios. La inyección intraganglionar de colchicina inhibe reversiblemente la modificación sináptica sin alterar la conducción nerviosa. Este resultado puede explicarse considerando que la colchicina bloquea el proceso de progresión axoplasmática.
