Specific reaction of aloe extract with serum proteins of various animals.

We found that aloe extract contains a lectin-like substance which reacts with serum proteins of various animals. Furthermore, in human serum 2 proteins, alpha2-macroglobulin and alpha1-antitrypsin, were shown to be reactive with aloe extract.

Zusammenfassung 1 bis 2 Tropfen Blut werden in einer Kapillare 10 min bei 10 000 U/min zentrifugiert. Die Kapillare wird an der Schichtgrenze zerschnitten. Das Serum kann so leicht auf die Papierstreifen zur Elektrophorese aufgetragen werden.     

Effect of Royal Jelly on serum lipids in experimental animals and humans with atherosclerosis

The primary objective of this review was to assess the size and consistency of Royal Jelly (RJ) effect on serum lipids in experimental animals and humans. The data from animal studies were pooled, where possible, and statistically evaluated by Student's t-test. Meta-analysis was used for the evaluation of human trials. It was found that RJ significantly decreased serum and liver total lipids and cholesterol levels in rats and rabbits and also retarded the formation of atheromas in the aorta of rabbits fed a hyperlipemic diet. Meta-analysis of the controlled human trials of RJ to reduce hyperlipidemia showed a significant reduction in total serum lipids and cholesterol levels and normalization of HDL and LDL as determined from decrease in β/α lipoproteins. The best available evidence suggests that RJ at approximately 50 to 100 mg per day, decreased total serum cholesterol levels by about 14%, and total serum lipids by about 10% in the group of patients studied.

Die Unterlagen deuten auf eine Bildung aussergewöhnlicher Komplexe zwischen gewissen Serumproteinen, wahrscheinlich-Globulin und Albuminfraktionen, durch ultrasonische Frequenzen hin.     

The major serum proteins of Dipteran larvae

Summary The major serum proteins of Dipteran larvae present something of an enigma. In many respects they are extremely well suited for studies on gene structure and control, protein chemistry and physiology. Large amounts of these proteins are synthesized by the fat body at specific stages of larval development, much is known about their biochemistry, genetics and evolution and some information is available about the control of their synthesis. There are however doubts as to their function. This article considers what is known about these proteins in Dipterans and other insect groups and relates this information to their evolution and their possible function.

Summary The secretory activity of the main excretory duct of rat submaxillary gland was investigated by the technique of luminal perfusion. Immunologic studies of the perfusate revealed the presence of serum antigens and the absence of intrinsic submaxillary gland antigens. It is suggested that the submaxillary duct permits passive transport of serum proteins to saliva from serum.

Proposition of a reference serum for the immunochemical assay of human serum proteins]

Sera of healthy students (from Academy of Paris) aged between 18 and 30 years were collected with a view to routine clinical testing. 50 samples each representing the pooled sera of 400 individuals were investigated by evaluating 7 proteins for each pooled sample. Calculations of standard deviations showed that there existed a significant reproductibility of less than 2% for the population as a whole. These pooled sera representing 20 000 individual blood samples are proposed as a standard of human serum proteins.     

Paramagnetism of human serum proteins demonstrated by two-stage electromagnetophoresis

Zusammenfassung Normale Serumproteine wurden mittels zweistufiger Elektromagnetophorese in Polyacrylamidgel, einer neuen Technik, aufgetrennt, wobei die Trennung auf Grund der paramagnetischen Eigenschaften der einzelnen Proteine erfolgt.

Lack of specific inhibition of graft-versus-host reaction by anti-fab serum

Résumé En recherchant une action des anticorps antiFab sur la réaction primaire des cellules immunologiquement compétentes, on a mis en évidence une inhibition de la réaction du greffon contre l'hôte par du sérum de Lapin anti-Fab de Souris: cette inhibition n'est cependant pas liée aux anticorps anti-Fab, mais à la cytotoxicité des sérums de Lapin aussi bien anti-Fab que normal.     

Differences between the soluble mitochondrial proteins in various organs of the rat

Résumé Les phérogrammes obtenus après électrophorèse en acrylamide des protéines mitochondriales solubles du rein, du foie et du cur, montrent des différences dans ces 3 organes. Le profil électrophorétique est reproductible et caractéristique pour la fraction mitochondriale de ces organes.     

Positive immunological reaction of gut cells from orally immunized animals demonstrated by passive cutaneous anaphylaxis

Zusammenfassung Meerschweinchen wurden mit hitzeinaktiviertenS. typhi murium-Bakterien oral mit Sonde immunisiert. 16 Tage nach der Impfung wird diesen Tieren der Dünndarm entnommen, zerkleinert und im passiven, kutanen Anaphylaxie-Test (PCA) in unbehandelten Meerschweinchen und Ratten auf Antikörperbildung geprüft. Im Dünndarm von zwei Dritteln der oral geimpften Meerschweinchen wurden hochspezifische Reagine mit der PCA-Technik nachgewiesen.

Response of serum calcium to administration of an extract from Stannius corpuscles in the anurans

Summary The effect of i.p. injection of an aqueous extract of Stannius corpuscles (10 mg/ml/100 g b.wt) on serum calcium levels was investigated inRana cyanophlyctis andBufo andersonii. This treatment evokes in both species hypocalcemia over a period of 1–4 h, followed by hypercalcemia at 6 h, with a return to control at 8 h.
