Summary The kinetics of horseradish peroxidase catalyzed scopoletin oxidation were observed to be sigmoidal. The apparent Kms for scopoletin is 0.9 mM. Inhibition of scopoletin oxidation by indole-3-acetic acid (IAA) appears to be non competitive. Non competitive inhibition by IAA suggests a more significant role of the peroxidase protein matrix in regulating the activity of the heme moiety.  相似文献

Racemic 4,4,4-trifluoro-3-(indole-3-)butyric acid (TFIBA) has been synthesized and shown to inhibitAvena coleoptile elongation. (S)-(+)-TFIBA (fig. 1), which was prepared by an enzymatic method and markedly promotes root growth of Chinese cabbage, lettuce and rice plants, is a novel fluorinated plant growth regulator. Activity of the (S)-(+)-enantiomer of TFIBA was 10-fold greater than that of the (R)-(–)-enantiomer in the first two plant species and 5-fold greater in rice.  相似文献

Summary The paper deals with the effects of indole-3 acetic acid on the histology of the gonads and their development inDacus dorsalis Hendel (Diptera; Tephritidae). Flies were topically treated with solutions of different concentrations. This treatment effectively reduced the size of gonads when applied to newly-emerged flies. Most severely affected parts were the germinal regions of the gonads. The number of sperm bundles was much reduced in the treated testes as compared to controlled ones.Acknowledgment. Summary The amino acid sequence was compared among the three allelic variants (allozymes) ofsn-glycerol-3-phosphate dehydrogenase inD. virilis, which are detected by one-dimensional electrophoresis. The GPDHf variant was different from the GPDHm by only one substitution of 68-lysine for asparagine; GPDHs differed from GPDHm by substitution of 127-glycine for arginine. No electrophoretically silent substitutions were found in a total of 352 amino acid residues.  相似文献

Summary A new natural substance has been identified in the rectal ampullae of gall-forming fruit flies. The substance was found to be the only volatile compound in the rectal ampulla of maleUrophora cardui andUrophora stylata. GC-MS methods were used to characterize its structure as 4-methyl-3Z,5-hexadienoic acid. Physiological parameters such as the amount of the acid at different ages and under different conditions were investigated. The biological significance of the new volatile as an arresting pheromone was tested in several bioassays. The arrestant function could not be established, but the results gave hints of a territorial function between conspecific males. The results are discussed with respect to gland morphology and predictions of communication models among fruit flies.  相似文献

Summary Larvae of the cabbage white butterfly,Pieris brassicae, have a dietary requirement for linolenic acid (C183n3) and were found to accumulate two other members of the n-3 family, C203n3 and C205n3 (eicosapentaenoic acid) especially in testicular phospholipids. Arachidonic acid was observed in trace amounts only. During diapause the relative titer of eicosapentaenoic acid increased in testicular phospholipids to about 4.2% of the fatty acids. Eicosapentaenoic acid is a possible precursor of prostaglandins, suggesting that prostaglandins of the 3-series predominate in this insect.  相似文献

Boric acid is a slow-acting, inorganic insecticide whose mode of action has not been satisfactorily elucidated. Reported here is evidence which shows that ingested boric acid destroys the cellular lining of the foregut of German cockroaches,Blattella germanica (L.). This effect appears to be sufficient to bring about the death of the insects, perhaps ultimately by starvation. This finding is important because resistance to conventional insectivides may re-establish boric acid as a prominent cockroach control chemical.  相似文献

Summary The effect of differentRhizobium loti strains on the biosynthesis of 2,3-diamino-butanoic acid and 2,4-diamino-3-methyl-butanoic acid in root nodules ofLotus tenuis, Anthyllis vulneraria andLupinus densiflorus has been investigated. Summary Rat liver microsomal 3-hydroxy-3-methylgularyl CoA (HMG-CoA) reductase was activated by 50% at a concentration of 0.4 mM 2,3-diphosphoglyceric acid (DPG) and by 11-fold at 10 mM DPG. DPG also prevented the inactivation of HMG-CoA reductase by ATP and Mg++. Rat liver microsomal HMG-CoA reductase prepared in the presence of 1 mM DPG was significantly more active than when prepared in the absence of DPG. Excited triplet states can be enzymatically generated in high yields by different routes. An example is the oxidation of isobutanal to acetone and formic acid, catalyzed by horseradish peroxidase. Other enzymatic systems that generate triplet carbonyls are linear aliphatic aldehydes when oxidized by peroxidase/O2, or the indole-3-acetic acid/peroxidase/O2-reaction. The latter is widespread in plants.This new field — photobiochemistry without light — has led to a growing awareness of the idea that cells may utilize excited states to trigger photochemical processes even in the dark. Such phenomena are of considerable importance, also for the understanding of weak photon emission from biological systems.  相似文献

To investigate the properties of the gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) synthesizing enzyme, glutamate decarboxylase (GAD), in the brain and the pancreatic islets of the rat, GABA concentration in the brain and the pancreatic islets was measured after intraperitoneal administration of 3-mercaptopropionic acid (3-MP) at 25 mg/kg. 60 min after the administration of 3-MP, GABA concentration in the hypothalamus, the superior colliculus and the hippocampus of the brain decreased by 20–30% and in the pancreatic islets by 35%. The concentration in the pancreatic acini did not change. Western blotting showed that GAD activity in the pancreatic islets decreased after administration of 3-MP compared to the control. The activity of GAD in the pancreatic islets as well as brain can be modified by a convulsant, in this case 3-MP. These results suggest the properties of GAD may be similar in the pancreatic islets and brain.  相似文献

Summary Three new furan fatty acids, (9Z, 19Z)-3, 6-epoxyhexacosa-3,5,19-tetraenoic acid (1a), (8Z, 11Z, 14Z, 17Z)-3, 6-epoxyeicosa-3,5,8,11,14,17-hexaenoic acid (2a), and (8Z, 11Z, 14Z, 17E)-3, 6-epoxyeicosa-3,5,8,11,14,17-hexaenoic acid (3a), and a new polyunsaturated fatty acid (5Z, 8Z, 11Z, 14Z, 17E)-eicosa-5,8,11,14,17-pentaenoic acid (6a), present in the spongeDictyonella incisa as the respective steryl esters, have been isolated as methyl esters and their structures have been determined by spectral and chemical analysis. The furan fatty acid esters have shown a high inflammatory activity, which suggests their potential role as feeding deterrents.  相似文献

Summary The host-selective phytotoxin victorin, produced by the fungusCochliobolus victoriae, was found to be at least partially peptidic in nature, and did not contain victoxinine. The exact mass of the M-H ion was measured by FABMS as 795.1877. Derivatives of three major acid hydrolysis products were isolated. Incubation of molting glands from the crayfishProcambarus clarkii (Y-organ) and the silkwormBombyx mori (prothoracic gland) with 23,24-[2H4]-2-deoxyecdysone resulted in the production of deutero-ecdysone; this biotransformation was inhibited in the presence of xanthurenic acid. When the experiments were performed under an18O2 atmosphere, the18O atom was introduced into ecdysone, as confirmed by mass spectrometry. We therefore suggest that xanthurenic acid inhibits P-450-dependent hydroxylation of 2-deoxyecdysone. However, deutero-2-deoxyecdysone was not converted to 3-dehydroecdysone when using Y-organs in vitro, although it is a major product. We therefore conclude that the biosynthetic pathway of ecdysteroids inP. clarkii branches at an early step.  相似文献

Summary Biosynthesis of linoleic acid, 182(n–6), was unambiguously demonstrated to occur in the cockroach,Periplaneta americana, and the cricket,Acheta domesticus. Axenic tissue from both of these insect species was demonstrated by radio-gas-liquid chromatography (radio-GLC) and radio-high-performance liquid chromatography (radio-HPLC) to incorporate [1-14C]acetate and [1-14C]oleate into this essential fatty acid.This work was supported by the National Science Foundation under grant DCB-8914417.
