Vermipodia — a new type of cell process

Summary A new kind of cell process is described in leukemic cells in two cases of histiocytic malignancies. They were evident both with light microscopy and scanning electron microscopy. As they have a tubular, worm like appearance, the name vermipodia has been given to them.

Zusammenfassung Es wird neben den bereits beschriebenen A, B, D, G und den «enterochromaffinen» Zellen, in den Langerhansschen Inseln des menschlichen Pankreas ein neuer Zelltyp mit charakteristischer, besonders kleiner Sekretionsgranula und von granulärer Struktur gefunden.

A virus of a new type pathogenic to crustacea

Résumé Une maladie virale a été mise en évidence chez le DécapodeMacropipus depurator. Le virus isolé et purifié est de 150 à 300 nm de long, ovoïde et enveloppé. Il est expérimentalement très pathogène. Les groupements de virions ont été montrés dans le cytoplasme des cellules cardiaques.     

A new type of antiserum to thyrotropin-releasing hormone; detection of new TRH-immunoreactive cell groups in rat hypothalamus

Summary We produced a new type of antiserum to thyrotropin-releasing hormone (TRH) in rabbits. The immunogen is TRH-BSA, the production of which is based on the formation of an amide bond using carbodiimide (EDC). The specificity of the antiserum was assessed by enzyme immunoassay (EIA) and immunohistochemistry. When using the anti-TRH serum for immunohistochemistry in rat hypothalamus, new magnocellular groups were detected in the ventrolateral parts of the posterior hypothalamus and the dorsal parts of the third ventricle. Colchicine treatment was found not to be necessary to visualize perikarya containing TRH.     

A new cell line (XTY) from a tumor of Xenopus laevis.

A new cell line (XTY) was derived from a tumor of a female Xenopus laevis. This cell line has been proliferating in standard amphibian culture medium for more than 4 years (470 generations) and has a doubling time of 75.5 h at 25 degrees C. The cells aggregate into large groups, and their stellate morphology and the expression of desmin demonstrated by immunocytochemistry suggest that their origin is not epithelial.     

Morphometric study of the aortic body type I cell.

The subclavian glomus (aortic body) of New Zealand white rabbits was examined ultrastructurally using stereological morphometric analysis. The Type I cells of the glomus possess numerous electron-opaque vesicles which occupy approximately 12% of the cytoplasmic volume of the cells. The amine-containing vesicles comprise a heterogeneous population of vesicles with a mean caliper diameter of 113.5 nm. Differences in vesicle diameters may indicate the storage of different biogenic amines, different secretion or maturation states between glomera and/or additional physiological functions for the glomera.     

Adenovirus type 12 infection of defined mouse-human hybrid cell clones.

Human adenovirus type 12 does not multiply in mouse cells; only viral T-antigen is detected. Mouse-human cell hybrid clones containing human chromosomes A3, B5, C7, C11, C12, D14, E17, F19 and F20, support synthesis of adenovirus DNA and capsid antigens.     

A new type of neurosecretion in the cerebral ganglion of a sipunculid

Summary A lipid neurosecretion is described in the giant cells of the cerebral ganglion in Sipunculus nudus (Sipunculida).     

排水系统入海口新型消能工

通过实体模型试验研究了某排水系统入海口水工建筑物的水力性能，设计提出一种新型的墩栅涡流室消能工。该新型消能工的水力特点是：流出排水隧洞的高速水流大部分通过进口墩栅空隙流入涡流室，小部分在进口墩栅前发生水跃后扎入涡流室中产生强烈的顺时针漩涡，通过水跃、墩栅的阻力和涡流室漩涡的共同作用消能，并将来流的动能转换为势能，之后，涡流室中的大部分水流在重力作用下通过出口墩栅空隙流向下游，其余水流从墩栅项部溢流。这种新型的墩栅涡流室不仅消能效果良好而且出流均匀，并容许各种杂物如石块、泥沙等自由通过，避免涡流室中发生严重的淤积。
