Possible role of glucose-6-phosphate in the anti-anaphylactic mechanism mediated by cyclic AMP

Stimulation by ACTH of protein synthesis in cultured adrenal cells. Absence of an effect by cyclin AMP]

ACTH stimulates the incorporation of 14C-leucine into proteins of adrenal tumor cells in culture. This stimulation though about 20% over controls is statistically significant. Cyclic AMP did not reproduce the stimulation observed with ACTH.     

Hyperpolarization by cyclic AMP (activation of diphosphoinositide kinase)

Cyclic AMP and cyclic GMP in rats paw edema by prostaglandins

Summary Experimental results indicate that rat's paw oedema development by PGs is inhibited by 35 AMP and increased by 35 GMP. This research confirms the opposite effect to that of cyclic nucleotides. The respective behaviour of 35 AMP and 35GMP in their primary oedema-induced activity is discussed.We gratefully acknowledge the technical assistence of Mr.Sauro Pellegrini.     

Stimulation of sodium transport by antidiuretic hormone in bullfrog intestine

Summary Antidiuretic hormone (ADH) increased the potential difference (PD) and shortcircuit current (SCC) across the small intestine of the bullfrog. This effect was independent of those produced by amiloride or high calcium but was masked by a theophylline-induced effect. Net active sodium (Na⁺) absorption accounted for the observed electrical changes.This work was supported by Whitehall Foundation, grant No. 78 156 ck-1 DSR No.     

Possible regulation of membrane-associated cyclic AMP phosphodiesterase in rat cerebral cortex by lipids

Summary Cyclic AMP phosphodiesterase (PDE) in membrane fraction from rat cerebral cortex was activated by Triton X-100, and treatment at alkaline pH and with phospholipase C. These results suggest that membrane PDE exists in a latent form and is influenced by microenvironmental changes within the membrane. Furthermore, the PDE, unlike soluble enzyme, is not influenced by a protein activator and Ca⁺⁺.     

Circadian variation of adrenocortical cyclic nucleotides (cyclic AMP and cyclic GMP) in hypophysectomized rats

The existence of a circadian variation in the adrenocortical concentrations of cyclic AMP and cyclic GMP in male adult Wistar rats examined 10 days after hypophysectomy is demonstrated. The results suggest that the circadian variations of adrenocortical cyclic nucleotides observed previously in intact rats might not entirely depend upon pituitary corticotrophin.
