Summary Triton X-100 improves nonspecific esterase solubilization from mosquito samples and also leads to increased resolution in an isoelectric focusing electrophoresis.Acknowledgments. Effects of ions and cortisol on RNA synthesis in lysed rat liver nuclei

Zusammenfassung Die Inkubation von isolierten Rattenleberzellkernen mit Cortisol fÜhrt zu einer Steigerung der endogenen Polymeraseaktivität um 30% im Kernsediment, wenn bestimmte Ionenbedingungen eingehalten werden. Cortisol bewirkt einen Anstieg im AU/GC Verhältnis der in vitro synthetisierten RNA ohne das Sedimentationsprofil in Saccharosedichtegradienten zu beeinflussen.     

Measurement of phosphatase activity in the cell wall obtained with the help of a nonionic detergent (Triton X 100)

The phosphatase activity of cell walls isolated by treating the intact roots with Triton X 100 is very steady. It is similar to that of living roots and that of cell walls isolated by centrifugation after the grinding of the tissues.     

Hormonal induction of glutamate dehydrogenase in rat liver.

Glutamate dehydrogenase rapidly increases in microsomes and appears in the cytoplasm after administration of cortisone, cAMP, hydrocortisone-acetate. Prolonged administration of ACTH maintains high level of enzyme in the mitochondria and microsomes. Hydrocortisone-acetate, insulin and cortisone decrease drastically enzyme in mitochondria.     

Inhibition of protein synthesis in ischaemic liver from phenobarbitone-treated rat.

Both ribosomal factors and cytosolic inhibitors are involved in the reduction of the rate of protein synthesis which occurs in the ischaemic hepatocyte from control and phenobarbitone-treated livers. Of these 2 factors it is the latter which seems to play a major role in determining the irreversible impairment of protein synthesis. Phenobarbitone administration has no effect on the rate of protein synthesis of ischaemic and post-ischaemic hepatocyte.     

Effect of clofibrate on the phospholipid biosynthesis in rat liver.

The effect of clofibrate on rat liver phospholipid biosynthesis was studied using 32P as a precursor. Phospholipid classes, levels and specific radioactivity were evaluated. Significant increases in levels of phosphatidylethanolamine and phosphatidylcholine were found and could account for the observed increase in total phospholipids. Specific activity of phosphatidylserine increased and that of phosphatidylethanolamine decreased. This fact suggests that clofibrate seems to alter the systems engaged in the transformation occurring within the different classes of phospholipids but not the de novo biosynthesis.     

Effect of PGE1 on lipogenesis in perfused rat liver.

In perfused livers of 24 hour-fasted rats, PGE1 (prostaglandin E1) infused continuously into the perfusate, was found to cause a 45% increase in the incorporation of 1-14C acetate into liver fatty acids. PGE1 was found to have no effect, however, on the activity of the key lipogenic enzymes.     

Thiamin turnover rate in some areas of rat brain and liver: a preliminary note.

Thiamin turnover rates in some nervous structures and liver of rats were evaluated in a steady state condition, using thiamin- 14C as a tracer. The radioactivity contents were analyzed by means of a mamillary type compartmental model. Excluding the liver, turnover rate values of the nervous structures were ordered in the following sequence: sciatic nerve (0.58 microgram/g . h) less than cerebellum less than hypothalamus less than midbrain less than corpus striatum less than cerebral cortex (0.16 microgram/g . h).     

Effect of a brain-specific protein (S-100 protein) on the nucleolar RNA polymerase activity in isolated brain nuclei

Riassunto Una proteina specifica del sistema nervoso, chiamata S-100, stimola la RNA polimerase nucleolare in nuclei isolati da encefalo immaturo di pollo (11 giorni di incubazione). La proteina non ha alcum effetto sulla RNA polimerase nucleoplasmica del medesimo sistema sperimentale. La stimolazione della S-100 sulla RNA polimerase nucleolare è -amanitina resistente ed è parzialmente antagonizzata dalla actinomicina. Ulteriori ricerche potranno chiarire il ruolo della proteina S-100 sulla espressione genetica del sistema nervoso.     

Ultrastructural observation of lysosomal activation as a possible cause of incisor malformation in cyclophosphamide-treated rat

Zusammenfassung In vorläufigen Untersuchungen akuter Effekte von Cyklophosphamid wurden in der Rattenzahnpulpa elektronenoptisch autophagische Vakuolen gefunden, was auf eine Aktivierung der Lysosomen hinweist.     

Ultrastructural changes in rat liver cells after intramuscular implantation of a Walker tumor

Résumé L'implantation i.m. de la tumeur de Walker chez les rats provoque une dilatation, une désorganisation et une dégranulation progressives du réticulum endoplasmique granuleux des hépatocytes. Ces changements, qui s'accompagnent en même temps d'une prolifération du réticulum endoplasmique lisse, représenteraient les manifestations ultrastructurales d'une insuffisance microsomale démontrée biochimiquement dans le foie des rats affectés par la tumeur de Walker.

Enzymatic phosphorylation of proteins of rat liver chromatin by (γ-32P) ATP in vitro

Zusammenfassung Isoliertes Rattenleberchromatin baut die endständige Phosphat-Gruppe von (-³²P) ATP in seine Proteine in Form von Phosphatester von Serin und Threonin ein. Der Einbau ist Mg⁺⁺ und Mn⁺⁺ abhängig und steigt mit Erhöhung des pH des Inkubationsmediums an. Phosphat und Pyrophosphat stimulieren die Phosphorylierung, zyklisches AMP hat keinen Effekt. Die sauren Proteine werden viel stärker als die Histone phosphoryliert. Das eingebaute Phosphat wird sehr schnell freigesetzt, ein Prozess, der von der Anwesenheit von dephosphorylierenden Enzymen abhängt.     

Effects of thyroidectomy on monoamine oxidase activities toward tyramine and serotonin in the circumventricular nuclei of the rat.

Following thyroidectomy, monoamine oxidase (MAO) activities toward tyramine decreased significantly by 20% in the nucleus periventricularis and the nucleus arcuatus among the 3 hypothalamic nuclei of the rat, while MAO activity toward serotonin decreased significantly by 10% only in the nucleus periventricularis. It is suggested that thyroidectomy induced selective changes on the multiple forms of MAO in the discrete circumventricular nuclei.     

Effect of insulin on lateral diffusion of pyrene in rat liver plasma membrane.

The yield of excimer formation by pyrene molecules inserted in rat liver plasma membranes in sensibly decreased in the presence of 1 nM insulin. This effect can be interpreted as indicating a decrease of the value of the translational diffusion coefficient of the dye within the membrane.     

Phosphatases IX. Differences in sialic acid content of rat liver alkaline phosphatase isoenzymes

Zusammenfassung Die Heterogeneität der alkalischen Phosphatase in der Rattenleber wird beschrieben. Anodische und kathodische Isoenzyme unterscheiden sich unter anderem durch ihre Reaktion auf die Neuraminidase Behandlung.
