Histochemical demonstration of differences in AMP deaminase activity in rat skeletal muscle-fibres

The histochemical method for AMP deaminase confirms that rat slow-twitch fibres contain less AMP deaminase activity than fast-twitch fibres. However, the enzyme appears similarly localized in all fibre types.

Zusammenfassung Dehydrase- und Succinodehydraseaktivität werden mittels histochemischer Methode durch Tetrazoliumsalze in Kernen der Hühnererythrocyten dargestellt. Das Vorhandensein der Formazankristalle beschränkt sich vor allem auf die innere Oberfläche der Kernmembrane. Die Bedeutung dieser Entdeckungen im Zusammenhang mit dem Succinodehydrase-Mitochondrien-Verhältnis wird kurz besprochen.

AMP deaminase, 5'-nucleotidase and adenosine deaminase in rat myocardial tissue in myocardial infarction and hypothermia

AMP deaminase, 5'-nucleotidase and adenosine deaminase have been estimated in skeletal muscle and myocardial tissue in normal rats and in rats subjected to experimental myocardial infarction or hypothermia. A difference in the enzyme distribution was found between the right and left ventricles in the normal rat. A decrease in the activity of 5'-nucleotidase and an increase in the activity of adenosine deaminase were observed in infarcted myocardial tissue. The activity of all 3 enzymes was found to be depressed in the myocardium in rats subjected to hypothermia. These results are discussed in relation to adenosine production and its beneficial effects.     

Glutaminase activity in rat skeletal muscle mitochondria

Isolated rat skeletal muscle mitochondria took up about 40-ng-atoms O per mg protein, with glutamine as the only respiratory substrate. The mitochondria incubated in the presence of glutamine and KCN formed both ammonia and glutamate in equivalent amounts. The experiments reported here provide suggestive evidence that rat skeletal muscle mitochondria contain glutaminase (L-glutamine amidohydrolase EC 3.5.1.2.) activity.

The mitochondria incubated in the presence of glutamine and KCN formed both ammonia and glutamate in equivalent amounts. Zusammenfassung Es wird eine Methode zur histochemischen Lokalisation der Aktivität von DPN-spezifischer UDPG-Dehydrogenase beschrieben. Das Wasserstoff übertragende System vom reduzierten Coenzym zuN-Thiazol-substituiertem Monotetrazol (Reduktionsindikator) bestand in der endogenen Menadionreduktase. Stärkste UDPG-Dehydrogenaseaktivität fand sich in Leberepithelien und proximalen Nierentubuli ausgewachsener Tiere (Ratte, Maus).     

Changes in activity levels of AMP deaminase and adenosine deaminase in the Indian apple snail,Pila globosa (Swainson) during starvation and aestivation stress

Summary Activity levels of AMP deaminase and adenosine deaminase have been studied in hepatopancreas, foot and mantle tissues ofPila globosa with reference to starvation and aestivation. The activity levels of both enzymes were decreased in all the tissues of aestivating snails while in starved animals AMP deaminase activity was increased, in contrast to the decreased adenosine deaminase activity.Acknowledgments. Visual demonstration of differences in peroxidase activity in iron and manganese deficient citrus leaves

Résumé Dans les feuilles des agrumes, l'activité de la péroxidase baisse dès qu'il existe une carence en Fe, tandis que la carence en Mn la fait augmenter. L'essai chronométrique de péroxidase effectué sur les disques des feuilles rend visible ces différences. Les effets opposés de deux carences ont été démontrés aussi au niveau des isozymes dans des extraits de feuilles en employant le gel de polyacrylamide en électrophorèse.

Effect of exercise on ribonuclease activity in rat skeletal muscle

Summary Distribution of ribonuclease activity (measured at pH 7.6) in subcellular fractions of homogenates of rat skeletal muscle was investigated in sedentary animals and after 8 weeks running program. Training increased ribonuclease activity (expressed as units of enzyme per g of muscle protein). There was no increase in nuclear fraction, but in both cytoplasmic and mitochondrial fractions the RNA-ase activity increased 42% and 45% respectively.Acknowledgments. Résumé En utilisant la méthode de fluorescence de Falck, on constate que les corpuscules de Vater-Pacini montrent la fluorescence caractéristique des catécholamines primaires. L'intensité de la fluorescence est plus marquée dans le corps central des corpuscules nerveuses, moins dans les lamelles et absente dans la fibre nerveuse.
