Sertoli cells of adult rats in vitro. II. Effect of different steroid precursors on estradiol 17β-synthesis

Summary The estradiol 17-synthesis by ⁴ pathway has been studied in homogenous cultures of Sertoli cells isolated from adult rat testes. Summary Direct incorporation and cold trap experiments suggest that cholest-4-en-3-one is an intermediate in the conversion of cholesterol into 3-hydroxymethyl-A-nor-cholestane in the marine spongeAxinella verrucosa. Cholest-4-en-3-one is further transformed by the sponge into cholest-4-en-3-ol, 5-cholestan-3-one and 5-cholestan-3-ol; these compounds arise from side reactions, which are not part of the major metabolic route leading to 3-hydroxymethyl-A-norsteranes.     

Influence of sex,developmental time and food onβ-N-acetylglucosaminidase activity in the rice weevilSitophilus oryzae L.

Summary The effects of some biological parameters on -N-acetylglucosaminidase activity have been investigated inS. oryzae. There is no significant influence of sex and developmental time on the enzyme activity level, which appears in contrast to be greatly influenced by food (wheat or sorghum). Sorghum contains competitive inhibitors which are almost completely removed after dialysis. Fasting relieves this inhibition very quickly, suggesting that inhibitors act directly at the gut level.     

Toxic substances produced byFusarium VI. Anti-F. oxysporum f. sp.carthami effect of 2,2′,4-trihydroxybenzophenone

Summary Anti-Fusarium oxysporum f. sp.carthami activity of 2,2,4-tri-hydroxybenzophenone was evaluated. Pretreatment with the benzophenone offered complete protection to safflower seeds and seedlings, and recovery of the latter from the fungal infection.

Résumé L'hormone mélanophorétique-MSH, à des concentrations de 0.1 à 0.2µg/ml dans l'eau de l'aquarium, produit une diminution de la fréquence des modifications spontanées de l'amplitude des décharges électriques du poissonG. eigenmannia. Ces résultats sont en accord avec les observations antérieures montrant divers effets de-MSH sur l'activité électrique du système nerveux central chez les mammifères.

Effects of γ-rays on DNA-cholesterol complex

Effect of α-methyl-DOPA on myocardial catecholamines

Résumé L'-méthyl-DOPA, même à doses élevées et/ou répétées, ne modifie pas significativement l'activité vasopressive totale — estimée sur la pression arérielle du rat décérébré et démédullé — des amines catéchiques cardiaques. La quantité de noradrénaline libérée du coeur de cobaye 1 h à 6 jours après administration d'-méthyl-DOPA y est remplacée par une quantité équipressive d'-méthyl-noradrénaline.

Zusammenfassung Die Einwirkung von Schwefelsäure auf eine benzolische-Carotinösung und die nachträgliche Behandlung der so gebildeten blauen Umwandlungsprodukte mit Wasser führte zu gelblichen Stoffen unbekannter Konstitution. Die chromatographische Analyse dieser Verbindungen zeigte die Abwesenheit von-Carotin. Einige Eigenschaften der neuen Stoffe werden beschrieben.
