Zusammenfassung Menschliche Plasmaaminooxydase, bestehend aus verschiedenen Isoenzymen, deren Hauptfraktion in zahl reichen untersuchten parenchymatösen Organen vorhanden ist, wurde mit der Stärkegelektrophorese und Sephadex Säulenchromatographie untersucht. Isoenzyme aus Gewebehomogenaten und Plasma unterscheiden sich.     

Early and selective increase in brain dopamine levels after axotomy

Résumé Nous avons étudié les concentrations de dopamine et de noradrénaline du prosencéphale après lésion unilatérale des neurones monoaminergiques correspondants. Les deux méthodes employées soit biochimique et histochimique ont mis en évidence sensiblement le même phénomène, à savoir: une augmentation importante et rapide du taux de dopamine entre 15 min et 24 h suivie d'une chute due selon toutes probabilités à la dégénerescence axonale. Quand à la noradrénaline, seule la deuxièmephase, la chute, a pu être observée.     

Uptake of tolbutamide by islets of Langerhans and other tissues

Summary 3-H-tolbutamide was distributed in a volume exceeding the space occupied by 14-C-sucrose in islets as well as in liver, kidney, muscle, and fat. In contrast to previous reports, the findings suggest that tolbutamide is not restricted to the extracellular space of islets.

Occurrence, distribution and nature of neuropeptide Y in the rat pancreas

Significant quantities of a newly discovered peptide, neuropeptide Y, were found in the rat pancreas, where they were localized to nerves in the exocrine parenchyma and around arterial and ductal structures. Although unaffected by surgical parasympathectomy, the periarterial and periductal nerves were abolished by chemical sympathectomy, suggesting that NPY is partially costored with sympathetic transmitters in nerve fibers.

Summary The soft tissues of the gastropod molluscPeristernia nassatula contain large amounts (30–60 g/g) of octopamine, which, in all probability, is concentrated in the hypobranchial gland. Résumé On décrit quelques aspects morphologiques de l'appareil nucléaire des fibres musculaires striées des insectes. Le nom Polykaryonéma est proposé pour désigner les noyaux filamenteux géants qui par fragmentations successives produisent des chaÎnes de noyaux indépendants, placées dans le centre des fibres musculaires adultes. Ce phénomène offre un bon exemple de division nucléaire amitotique.     

Regional and subcellular distribution of superoxide dismutase in brain

Summary Superoxide dismutase has been found to be widely distributed and of approximately the same specific activity in all regions of human brain examined. It is not reduced during degeneration of the basal ganglia in Huntington's Chorea. After subcellular fractionation of human and guinea-pig cerebral cortex, the highest specific activity of the enzyme was found in the soluble fraction.Acknowledgments. Topographical distribution of ATP in rat brain

Summary Studies on the distribution of ATP in microdissected segments of the rat brain indicate that the nucleotide is concentrated in gray matter, and especially in the thalamus, hypothalamus, hippocampus, entorhinal cortex and sensorimotor cortex. These distribution studies in conjuction with previous neuropharmacological studies, support the concept that adenine nucleotides may function as intercellular mediators in various regions of the brain.

The relative distribution of soluble and insoluble cholinesterases in rat excitable tissues

Summary Three ratios were studied here: bound to free AChE (R₁), bound to free BChE (R₂), and the ratios between these two (R₃). The first one proved relevant in that it contributed to the division of the cholinergic tissues into 3 classes: high values (nicotinic tissues: skeletal muscle), low values(muscarinic tissues: small intestine, uterus, heart), and middle values (mixed, nicotinic and muscarinic cholinergic innervation:brain). The third ratio (R₃) showed different values in the muscarinic tissues studied; no significant differences could, however, be found between the ratios of brain and skeletal muscle. Further exploration of this ratio should indicate whether it is of some importance for the characterization of excitable tissues.
