Zusammenfassung ITP, dessen Synthese beschrieben wird, erwies sich am Hunde als ein starkes, kardiales -Stimulans. Da auch nach myokardialer -Blockade mit Practolol der Blutdruck durch ITP nicht wesentlich gesenkt wurde, kann es als herzspezifisch angesehen werden.

Caffeine as a psychomotor stimulant: mechanism of action

The popularity of caffeine as a psychoactive drug is due to its stimulant properties, which depend on its ability to reduce adenosine transmission in the brain. Adenosine A₁ and A_2A receptors are expressed in the basal ganglia, a group of structures involved in various aspects of motor control. Caffeine acts as an antagonist to both types of receptors. Increasing evidence indicates that the psychomotor stimulant effect of caffeine is generated by affecting a particular group of projection neurons located in the striatum, the main receiving area of the basal ganglia. These cells express high levels of adenosine A_2A receptors, which are involved in various intracellular processes, including the expression of immediate early genes and regulation of the dopamine- and cyclic AMP-regulated 32-kDa phosphoprotein DARPP-32. The present review focuses on the effects of caffeine on striatal signal transduction and on their involvement in caffeine-mediated motor stimulation.Received 8 July 2003; received after revision 7 September 2003; accepted 6 October 2003     

Investigations into the site of action of taloximine: A new respiratory stimulant molecule

Résumé Une substance nouvelle, la taloximine, administrée par voie intraveineuse produit chez le chat à une dose de 20 mg/kg indemne une augmentation de l'effort respiratoire. On montre qu'à cette dose la taloximine accélère la fréquence des décharges enregistrées à partir de filaments multifibrillaires du nerf du corps carotidien.

Riassunto È stato dimostrato che la contemporanea stimolazione delle adenilciclasi, realizzata con salbutamolo, e la inibizione delle fosfodiesterasi prodotta da teofilina esercitano, effetti broncodilatatori sinergici. Il potenziamento osservato anche fra salbutamolo e dibutirril-35 AMP è stato riferito alla inibizione delle fosfodiesterasi determinata da quest' ultima sostanza.

Summary A sex pheromone produced by male cabbage looper moths,Trichoplusia ni (Hübner), has been isolated from the genital scent brushes and identified as 2-phenylethanol. It is shown conclusively to elicit specific behavioural responses in the female (such as wing vibration and abdominal elevation), as determined by a novel behavioural laboratory bioassay. This is taken as further evidence that the male pheromone ofT. ni acts as a sexual stimulant (aphrodisiac) prior to mating. 2-Phenylethanol represents the first identification of a genital scent brush pheromone in the family Noctuidae, and of a male pheromone in the subfamily Plusiinae.Mention of a proprietary product in this paper does not constitute a recommendation or an endorsement of the product by the U. Zusammenfassung Eine Methode zur kumulativen Registrierung spontaner motorischer Aktivität kleiner Tiere wird beschrieben. Die Wirksamkeitsbestimmung aus dem kumulativen Rekord und die analytische Bedeutung der Methode für die Wirkungsweise zentralstimulierender Substanzen wird diskutiert.     

4,5,6,7-Tetrahydro-7-oxobenzo[b]thien-4-ylurea; Sulbenox,a novel animal growth stimulant

Summary The title compound, a metabolite of 4,5,6,7-tetrahydrobenzo[b]thien-4-ylurea, was synthesized and found to be an effective growth promoter in sheep, mice, and rats. In sheep it gave over a 6-week growth period at 15 and 60 ppm in the diet an economically and statistically significant growth response.United States adopted name (USAN).We thank Dr T.J.
