Ralph Waldo Emerson, born in 19th century's America, is most famous for his transcendental ideas and writings. He was deeply influenced by European Romanticism in his thirties and formed an informal Transcendental Club with people of like minds. His thought is often considered the core of Transcendentalism. "Nature" is the fundamental document of his philosophy and an embodiment of his transcendental attitude towards the phenomenal world. He also wrote some other brilliant essays such as "The American Scholar", "Self-Reliance", "The Over-Soul" and "The Poet", etc, all of which established his indisputable position in the history of culture, especially in the American Culture where he is regarded as the one who, in literally terms at least, really put America on map. But considering Emerson's writings without significant emphasis on his verse would be a great loss. Emerson wrote poetry from the time he was a boy to nearly the end of his life. These poems are essential for understanding him and his transcendental theories and are receiving more extensive representation in anthologies while significant critical analyses are emerging though some modern readers and scholars tend to view his poetry as secondary to the "essential" Emerson. In view of the above, this paper supposes to introduce Emerson's views on poets and poems and then analyze some of his famous poems in the order of 'Emerson as a Poet', 'Emerson's Views on Poets and Poems' and 'Emerson's Poems' with the third one as the focus of this paper. The purpose of this paper is to try to make the comprehension on Emerson and his abstract transcendental theories more complete and thorough by emphasizing his contribution in the poetic field.  相似文献

Insufficient vocabulary has become a barrier to reading comprehension and translation in the process of ME (medical English) study to the third-year students at medical universities or colleges. The current study was designed to investigate corpus- based teaching approach to enlarging students'vocabulary in the course of higher learning of ML (medical literature). The study was carried out from 2006.9 to 2008.9 among third -year medical students in our college. Students were encouraged to augment their vocabulary by active practice, intensive learning, and comprehensive learning respectively through discovering study by using self-made ME corpuses (90,000 words). In doing so, their vocabulary was enlarged by actively using the essential vocabulary, attaching more attention to the difficult technical vocabulary, and getting familiar with medical terms, which eliminated their language barrier, improved their integrated language proficiency, and developed their sense of achievement.  相似文献

During the reading of Journey to the West by Wu Cheng′en (English version) translated by W.J.F.jenner,The author noticed that Jenner translated some Chinese words such as"泼猴","贤兄""贤兄"ect.flexibly as well as marvelously and appropriately according to different context, which in fact is loyal to the original language,at the same time corresponds to characteristics of English language. The Asymmetric Phenomena of forms and meanings in Chinese and English will have some implication for second language learning, but what? Preliminarily exploration was done in this paper.  相似文献

Edgar Allan Poe was one of the most important poets in the American poetic history for his unremitting pursuit for 'ideal beauty'. This essay proves by various examples chosen from his poems that his aestheticism was obvious in his versification techniques. His poetic theory and practice gave an immortal example for the development of the English poetry.  相似文献

Cloning and characterization of a new actin gene from Oryza sativa L.   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Using Rho family member osRACD as bait, a new member of actin gene family -Act was isolated from Oryza sativa by yeast two-hybrid system. The full-length cDNA was cloned with 5' RACE technology, which contains an open reading frame of 1134 bp with a predicted protein of 377 amino acids. Sequence alignment revealed 96% to 81.8% identities with some known actin proteins in plants. The method of bioinformatics was used to analyze the protein modification sites, structure and evolution of the gene. Southern blot analysis showed that Act is a single-copy gene in the genome. The result of RT-PCR showed it is ubiquitously expressed in root, shoot, callus and panicle in a temporal fashion. The relationship between Rho family and actin family in evolution and function was also studied.  相似文献

Gorham-Stout Syndrome (GSS) is an infrequent and mysterious bone disease characterized by massive bone dissolving or even disappearing due to an unknown pathogeny. It is quite different from the Itai-itai disease and osteoporosis. In 2001, an 8-year-old boy from a small town in Xinjiang was found to get GSS disease. Some parts of his bones vanished without any external force. Results showed that the concentrations of Cd and Cu, especially Na and K in his hair were far higher than those of the healthy people, and the concentration of Cd was 2 times that of the reference while those of Cr and Zn were insufficient for health. The ratio of K/Na was also higher than that of healthy group. Four different ratios revealed weak bone growth potential and strong bone breakage occurred simultaneously in the GSS sufferer's skeletal system. It might be the synergistic effect of the trace elements leading to the baffling syndrome. Further investigation demonstrated that the trace elements can cause a series of diseases, including GSS disease and a typical rheumatoid arthritis (ARA). Epidemiological investigation also proved that there were about 25% of the inhabitants in the town suffered from an ARA. All of these data implied there was significant relationship among Gorham-Stout Syndrome, ARA and prolapse of lumbar intervertebral disc.  相似文献

The intact open reading frame (ORF) of foot-and-mouth disease virus (FMDV) Asia I/XJ strain was am- plified by RT-PCR and inserted into the transfer vector pVL1393 to generate plasmid pVL-ORF. Bm-N cells were transfected with pVL-ORF and linearized Bm-BacPAK6 DNA, and the recombinant silkworm baculovirus Bm-ORF containing the full ORF of FMDV was obtained. The results of indirect im- munofluorescence assay (IFA) showed that Bm-ORF could be expressed efficiently in Bm-N cell. After inoculating the early 5th instar larvae of silkworm, the polyprotein of FMDV could be detected by sandwich ELISA and empty capsid-like particles could be observed under the electron microscope. Expression products from silkworm were used as the antigen to immunize the cattle. The specific an- tibody was induced in all vaccinated animals. The immunized cattle were challenged with the virulent FMDV Asia I/XJ strain, two of the four cattle were completely protected and clinical symptoms were alleviated and delayed in the others. The results suggest that this strategy might be used to develop the new subunit FMDV vaccine.  相似文献

William Wordsworth, the representative of the romantic writers and a great writer of the nature, has made great contribution in poetic theory. Daffodils is one of the many poems written by Wordsworth on the beauty of nature. His great imagination, with the poet's philosophical and somewhat mystical thought, is deeply rooted in the poetical creation. In this paper, his most representative poem is closely examined to appreciate how Wordsworth combines his deep love for nature and his romantic language in his great poem.  相似文献

As the spokesman of the Jazz Age,F.Scott Fitzgerald ,based on his own experience, writes his masterpiece-The Great Gatsby.Through abundant symbols,Fitzgerald profoundly depicts the social prospect of Jazz Age and successfully displays the process of the disillusionment of American Dream which exists in majority people in 1920s.This paper, based on some basic symbolic theories, discusses how the author brings the deep philosophy to the surface to show his attitude,to reveal the theme by these symbols. And by analyzing the symbolic meanings of some characters,it further probes some causes for the failure of American Dream and how the author pays attention to common human nature.  相似文献

NifA in AzospiriUum brasilense plays a key role in regulating the synthesis and activity of nitrogenase in response to ammonia and oxygen available. In this work we used the yeast two-hybrid system to identify the proteins that interact with NifA. The nifA gene was fused to the yeast two-hybrid vector pGBD-C2, and three A. brasilense Sp7 genomic libraries for use in yeast two-hybrid studies were constructed. Screening of the libraries identified four clones encoding proteins that interact with NifA. The confirmation of the interactions of each gene product of the four clones and NifA were carried out by exchanging the vectors for nifA and the four clones and by mutageneses of the four clones with shift reading frame experiments in yeast two-hybrid studies. DNA sequence analyses showed that two clones encode proteins containing PAS domains that play an important role in signal transduction. One clone has high similarity with the fhuE gene of Escherichia coli, whose gene product is involved in iron uptake and transportation, and the other clone encodes an unknown protein.  相似文献
