Enhancement of macrophage colony-stimulating factor in mice by carbon particle

Summary Carbon particles enhance hemopoiesis in irradiated mice. Serum from carbon-treated mice stimulated macrophage colony formation, and inhibited granulocyte colony formation. The finding suggests that carbon-treatment modulates the hemopoietic environment through the monocyte-macrophage system.This work was supported in part by Grants-in-Aid for Cancer Research from the Ministry of Education, Science and Culture, Japan.

Riassunto Viene esaminato l'effetto di silice cristallina sul pH intracellulare di fagociti. L'incubazione con i microcristalli determina una acidificazione delle cellule causante una inibizione del metabolismo. CiÒ viene messo relazione con la liberazione del contenuto lisosomiale dalle cellule, previamente osservata.     

Enhancement of ‘memory cell’ pool by polyanions in mice

Zusammenfassung Mit 600r bestrahlte Mäuse wurden mit Milzzellen von Spendermäusen, die entweder mit Antigen allein (Kontrollen) oder mit Antigen und einem Polyanion vorbehandelt wurden, injiziert. In den Recipienten, die mit Milzzellen von mit Polyanion vorbehandelten Mäusen injiziert wurden, konnte eine gegenüber Kontrollen signifikant erhöhte (vorwiegend 7S) Immunantwort gemessen werden. Die Ergebnisse lassen vermuten, dass Polyanionen sowohl auf die B- als auch auf die T-Zellen wirken.

Heterogeneity of macrophage cytophilic antibodies in immunized mice

Résumé Des souris immunisés avec des globules rouges de mouton dans l'adjuvant de Freund produisent deux types de facteurs cytophiles pour macrophages. L'un s'attache aux macrophages trypsinisées et se trouve parmi les immunoglobulines. L'autre ne s'attache pas aux macrophages trypsinisées et se rencontre dans une fraction de sérum contenant de l'albumine et de la globuline-₁.

Electrocorticographic activity induced by gamma hydroxybutyrate in the rat during ontogenesis

Summary GHB at a dose of 200 mg·kg^–1 i.p. elicited groups of slow waves with a frequency of 4–5 Hz in both frontal and occipital ECoG leads in adult rats. In 25- and 18-day-old rats similar slow wave activity became continuous and exhibited a clear-cut maximum in the frontal regions. In 15- and 12-day-old animals slow wave activity was also registered in the frontal region but it was organized into short groups of unstable frequency. No ECoG effects of GHB could be found in 9-day-old rats.     

Action of Corynebacterium parvum on the activity of glycosidases and proteases of peritoneal macrophages in the mice]

Glycosidase and peptidase of non-treated Mouse peritoneal macrophages were characterized. The enzymatic activities of Corynebacterium parvum stimulated Mouse macrophages were compared to those of macrophages obtained from non-treated animals. All the enzymatic activities, but beta-C-galactosidase, were higher in stimulated Mouse macrophages.     

Acid phosphatase activity of small intestine of mice after exposure to different doses of gamma rays

Summary Effect of whole-body radiation at 3 different dose levels on the activity of acid phosphatase was studied in the small intestine of Swiss albino mice. In all the 3 exposure groups the enzyme activity increased significantly at 24 h after irradiation; the time at which the maximum histological damage was seen. With the beginning of recovery the enzyme tended to decrease and gradually approached control values.     

Enzymatic activity of peritoneal macrophages of Balb C mice after enteral or parenteral stimulation with bacterial extracts]

A study of peritoneal macrophage activation has been conducted by simultaneous investigation in eleven enzymes in Balb/c Mice stimulated with bacterial extracts, by oral and parenteral route. The results showed important changes in Macrophage number and activity. On the other hand this activation depended upon the route of administration, antigen nature, and time interval between stimulation and peritoneal harvesting.

Stimulation of locomotor activity of genetically obese mice by amphetamine

Zusammenfassung Die motorische Aktivität von genetish obesen (ob/ob) und diabetischen (db/db) Mäusen wurde durchd-Amphetamin stärker gesteigert als bei normalen Mäusen, wobei das Regulationszentrum für die motorische Aktivität intakt zu sein scheint.
