Muntjac chromosomes: A new karyotype forMuntiacus muntjak

Zusammenfassung Es gibt bemerkenswerte Unterschiede der Karyotypen vonMuntiacus muntjak vaginalis undM. m. muntjak. Jeder hat einen unterschiedlichen DNA-Wert, aber beide Werte sind niedriger als diejenigen des Menschen. Die Karyotypen-Evolution ist nicht abgeklärt, aber die Befunde zeigen, dass eine taxonomische Revision notwendig ist.

Elevated kidney glucosyltransferase activity in genetic prediabetic mice

Summary Glucosyltransferase activity in the renal cortex of genetic diabetic KK mice was significantly increased at 40 days of age when compared to that of Swiss albino and F₁ hybrid mice. This increase in enzyme activity in the absence of glucose intolerance can be regarded as an earlier genetic marker for the diagnosis of diabetic microangiopathy.Acknowledgments. Inhibition of arylpyruvate oxidase by chelating agents

Zusammenfassung Die Hemmung der Phenylpyruvat- undp-Hydroxyphenylpyruvat-Oxydasen durch Chelat-Wirkstoffe wurde offenbar durch die Bildung eines Enzym-Wirkstoff-Komplexes verursacht, der bei Behandlung mit Kationen oder mit Sephadex trennbar ist. Die Reinigung des Enzyms führt zur Kupferanreicherung des Präparates, welches eine scheinbar funktionelle Einheit mit dem Enzym bildet.

Phosphatases ofMycobacterium 607

Zusammenfassung Die Phosphatase(n)-Aktivität der zellfreien Extrakte vonMycobacterium 607 wurde untersucht und Pyrophosphat, ATP, ADP und Fructose-1,6-diphosphat hydrolisiert. Eigene Eigenschaften der Phosphatasen wurden studiert. Auch wurde nachgewiesen, dass die Hydrolyse von ATP und ADP durch mindestens zwei verschiedene Enzyme hervorzurufen ist.

α-d-glucosidase in normal and leukemic lymphocytes

Zusammenfassung Der einfache Nachweis von -d-Glukosidase in leukämischen Lymphozyten gelang spektrophotometrisch. Dies lässt darauf schliessen, dass ein Enzymmangel nicht Ursache für die Glykogenspeicherung dieser Zellen sein kann. Es scheint sich um eine Ansammlung von glykolytischen Zwischenprodukten und nicht um einen Defekt der Glykogenolyse zu handeln.

Optical rotatory dispersion of proline-rich peptides from the venom ofBothrops jararaca

Gilia in human fetal Schwann cells

Effect of substrate pretreatment on renal organic ion transport in the adult rat

Summary The ability of renal cortical slices to accumulate PAH and NMN was not significantly affected by pretreatment of adult rats with large doses of PAH. Pretreatment of adult rats with THAM significantly increased PAH accumulation but had no effect on NMN. Inulin and PAH clearance and filtration fraction were significantly decreased by PAH pretreatment but unaffected by THAM pretreatment. The effects of pretreatment on transport are probably due to non-specific toxicity.Supported in part by U. S. Heterocyclic steroids. Steroidal pyrimidines

Zusammenfassung Die erste Synthese eines Steroid-Analogen, in welchem Ring A zu einem Pyrimidin umgewandelt wurde, wird beschrieben. Die wichtigste Zwischenstufe 4b wurde durch Abbau von 19-nor-Testosteron gewonnen. Kondensation von 4b mit Thioharnstoff führte zu 17-Acetoxy-2,4-diazaestr-4-en-1-on-3-thion (5).

Selective blockade by mephentermine of reserpine-induced serotonin depletion

Zusammenfassung Die kombinierte i.v. Verabreichung von Reserpin (1 mg/kg) und Mephentermin (1 mg/kg) bewirkte Erregung in Kaninchen. Diese Erregung ist verbunden mit einem Verlust an Noradrenalin (NE) im Gehirn, nicht jedoch mit einem Verlust an Serotonin (5-HT). Aus den Ergebnissen lässt sich schliessen, dass die beobachtete Erregung von einem momentanen Ungleichgewicht zwischen NE und 5-HT im Gehirn herrührt.

RandomX-chromosome inactivation in interspecific hybrids ofMeriones libycus (♂) ×Meriones shawi (♀) (Rodentia: Gerbillinae)

Résumé Des cultures obtenues à partir d'hybrides femelles entre deux espèces deMeriones à 44 chromosomes et différant par l'acrocentrie (M. shawi) ou la métacentrie (M. libycus) de l'X ont permis l'étude de clones cellulaires. C'est alors tantôt l'X métacentrique, tantôt l'X acrocentrique qui se révèle inactivé («latereplicating»). Bien que la proportion 1/1, significative d'une inactivation due uniquement au hasard, n'ait pas été rigoureusement observée, ces résultats sont nettement en faveur de l'hypothèse deLyon.

Sterols of the lobster (Homarus americanus) and the shrimp (Pandalus borealis)

Summary In this study we have analyzed the sterol compositions of two continental shelf species of crustacea, the lobster (Homarus americanus) and the shrimp (Pandalus borealis). Cholesterol was found to be the most abundant sterol in these two species with smaller amounts of desmosterol, 24-methylcholesterol, 24-ethylcholesterol, 24-methylenecholesterol and 22-dehydrocholesterol. Dermatologically active sesquiterpene lactones in trichomes ofParthenium hysterophorus L. (Compositae)

Summary Scanning electron microscopy of the leaf surface, phyllaries and achene-complex ofParthenium hysterophorus L. showed the presence of 4 types of glandular and non-glandular trichomes. Chemical analysis established the presence of sesquiterpene lactones in the trichomes that cause eczematous dermatitis.Acknowledgments.
