Pubertal changes in the medio-basal hypothalamic area after neonatal suprachiasmatic nucleus lesions in the rat

Summary In order to get more insight into the mechanism by which the onset of puberty is controlled, a developmental study on the displacement of catalase- and dopamine-containing cells in the hypothalamic region was done in rats which received a neonatal lesion of the suprachiasmatic nucleus. The displacement of cells is delayed after these lesions. However, the time lost at the beginning of the displacement is made up at the end of the migration.

A displacement of catecholaminergic-positive and catalase-containing cells from the median eminence into the arcuate nucleus at puberty has been described previously. Autoradiographic study of proliferative activity and cell migration in the adrenal cortex in fetal and neonatal rats]

On the 20th day of fetal life the cell proliferation is higher in the zona glomerulosa. The fate of marked cells in each cell compartment shows centripetal migration. Their displacement, from the 20th day of pregnancy up to five days post-partum, while at that time the adrenal growth is slowered down, suggests a real migration.

Live Tetrahymena cells bound 3H-diazepam specifically, as demonstrated by autoradiographic evidence of displacement of about 25% of labeled diazepam in the presence of a 1000-fold amount of cold diazepam. The 3H-diazepam bound to membrane preparations isolated from untreated (control) cells was not displaced by cold diazepam, whereas cells involved in primary interaction (imprinting) with diazepam showed amplification and specificity of diazepam binding in both in vivo (cell suspension) and in vitro (pellicle) systems, as well as displacement of bound label in the presence of 1000-fold cold diazepam. It appears that diazepam induced imprinting and, consequently, also the formation of specific receptors in Tetrahymena.

Description of the folliculo-stellate cells in the anterior hypophysis of the monkey Macacus irus]

Folliculo-stellar cells are present in the anterior lobe of hypophysis of the monkey Macacus irus. These cells limit strait cavities in which one can observe microvillosites at the apical pole of the cells. The folliculo-stellar cells possess long and thin fibers which insert themselves between different types of granular cells and sometimes extend to the peri-capillar regions. Numerous organelles are present in these folliculo-stellar cells, especially microfilaments.     

'On Going Up in the World': Nation,Region and the Land Elevation Debate in Sweden

The aim of the article is to analyse the relationship between Quaternary geology, the idea of land elevation, nationalism and regionalism in Scandinavia, with special regard to the contribution of Swedish geologists at the end of the nineteenth century. From a scientific point of view, the idea of land elevation was connected to the acceptance of the glaciation theory and the elevation theory of Thomas F. Jamieson, but analysed in a wider cultural context it is possible to understand both the professionalization of Quaternary geology and the new theory of shore-line displacement as expressions of Swedish cultural nationalism. As a complement to the specific cultural history, the Quaternary geology enterprise was a way of constituting a unique natural history of the nation. One of the new theories that developed in this process was that of the Highest Marine Border, a complex concept established by the distinguished geologist Gerard De Geer at the end of the 1880s in order to defend the theory of land elevation, which was threatened by the work of Eduard Suess. The line was considered to be a geographical border that both expressed the elevation pattern and sharply divided Sweden into one part that had been covered by water during the post-glacial period and another part that had not. The study continues by looking more closely at the construction of the border in the north of Sweden. Through an account of a subsequent scientific dispute between De Geer and the geologist Arvid Gustaf Hogbom it is clear that the concept of the Highest Marine Border was shaped not only by nationalism but also by regionalism.     

Behaviour of the prolyl hydroxylase to collagen synthesis in KB cells]

KB cells, which synthetized collagen at a low rate, shown a prolyl hydroxylase activity at the same rate that fibroblast. The relationship between collagen synthesis and prolyl hydroxylase activity in these cells was discussed.

针对目前高强度聚焦超声（HIFU）治疗中运动控制系统与B超图像之间的位移标定准确度不高的问题,基于B超图像的亚像素级配准算法,研究组合探头运动时靶区组织的实际位移与B超图像中像素位移之间的映射关系并进行标定,以提高对靶区组织B超定位的准确性,帮助HIFU临床医生更加有效地对靶区组织进行治疗。     

A gelatin sponge model for studying tumor growth: quantitation of tumor cells and leukocytes in the CHO tumor

A gelatin sponge model system for tumor cell inoculation and retrieval of tumor-associated leukocytes is described. Gelatin sponges pre-implanted in nude mice harboring tumorigenic Chinese hamster ovary cells (line CHO) were examined at 2 and 11 days after injection of tumor cells for tumor cell content and leukocyte accumulation after digesting the sponge matrix in collagenase solution. The data indicate a progressive influx of host cells consisting primarily of macrophages, neutrophils and lymphocytes. The total number of viable tumor cells as well as the fraction of surviving tumor cells with clonogenic potential also increased with tumor age. Blank sponges not harboring tumor cells elicited an inflammatory response in the animals which did not change appreciably with length of sponge residence. However, when the sponges were harboring tumor cells, the accumulation of host leukocytes far exceeded that which occurred in blank sponges. This observation suggests a host response directed toward the tumor which is absent in animals bearing blank sponges. Apart from providing anchorage for injected cells, the gelatin sponge, by virtue of its digestibility in collagenase, makes possible the easy retrieval and precise quantitation of tumor-associated host cells.     

三圈冻结法在淤泥质土深基坑工程的应用

以往的冻结法在淤泥质土及特殊工程土体中,由于所需的冻结温度低、冻结扩展速度慢、形成冻结壁的强度低等原因,在施工时容易出现片帮、底鼓、突水、涌砂等事故.轻则影响工程进度,重则造成严重的经济损失.针对此类问题,提出了用三圈冻结法优化淤泥质土深基坑开挖的方案,并应用大型数值模拟软件ADINA进行模拟分析.对普通冻结法、连续桩及三圈冻结法等围护结构的位移进行了对比,得出三圈冻结法围护结构不仅最大位移小,而且位移随深度变化平稳.     

Cell kinetic studies in the epidermis of the mouse. I. Changes in labeling index with time after tritiated thymidine administration

The changes in the labeling index (LI) with time after a single injection of tritiated thymidine (3HTdR) at each of 4 different times of the day have been studied. Slight differences occur in the shape of these LI curves, (e.g. in the timing of the peaks) depending on the time of day when the initial injection was given. Thus, the time of day influences not only the number of cells in DNA synthesis but also determines the subsequent behavior of the labeled cells. The curves show 3 distinct peaks from which estimates of the cell cycle time can be made. The technique permits the cell cycle time to be estimated. From the data as a whole a minimum cell cycle time of 90 h for basal cells in the epidermis on the back of a mouse is obtained. The technique also provides estimates for the duration of S + G2 + M which varies depending on the time of day that the label is given. The LI curves can best be understood if the basal layer is assumed to contain 2 cell populations with differing cell cycle times; one having a long cell cycle (about 180 h) but short S-phase and containing the stem cells, the other having a short cell cycle (about 90 h) and a long S-phase duration and consisting of transit cells.

Presence of specific binding sites for [3H]sarcophytol-A in cultured human skin fibroblasts

The presence of specific binding sites for [3H]sarcophytol-A in human skin fibroblasts was examined using biochemical and morphological methods. The displacement studies clearly revealed that high (KD = 31.0 nM) and low (KD = 6.05 microM) affinity sites were present in the intact cells. Moreover, autoradiographic studies using light microscopy revealed that the specific binding sites may exist in both the cytoplasm and the nuclei.     

Ultrastructural observation on the tips of growing vascular cords in the rat cerebral cortex

Summary The distal ends of the vascular cord in the cerebral cortex are investigated electron microscopically in rats at the 13th postnatal day. The tip of the vascular cord consists of central cuboidal cells (primitive endothelial cells) and surrounding flat cells (primitive pericytes), and has no lumen. The primitive endothelial cells (tip cells) possess several long tentacles which contain only fibrous structures and extend through the neuropile.This study was supported in part by a grant in aid for Scientific Research from the Ministry of Education of Japan (No. 448085).     

软弱围岩下小净距隧道中岩柱加固方法分析

建立基于Drunker-Prager本构模型小净距隧道弹塑性三维模型,进行室内比尺模型试验的数值模拟。比较数值模拟和室内试验之间的结果,验证数值模型试验的有效性。通过对围岩的位移、塑性区、整体塑性能释放、最大塑性应变分析,比较上、中、下岩盘等不同加固工况的优劣,为实际施工加固方案择提供技术参考。     

The action of the peptidoleukotriene LTD4 on intracellular calcium in rat mesangial cells

The dose-dependent effect of CGP 45715A on the LTD₄-induced Ca²⁺ response of glomerular mesangial cells has been studied. Our results demonstrate that the LTD₄-dependent increase in the cytosolic Ca²⁺ concentration primarily involves an InsP₃-mediated release of Ca²⁺ from intracellular storage sites and to a minor extent an enhanced influx of Ca²⁺ through receptor-operated Ca²⁺ channels located in the plasma membrane. The action of CGP 45715A on the Ca²⁺ response is an inhibitory one and is convincingly explained by a displacement of LTD₄ from its receptor site(s). The contractile effect of LTD₄ on pulmonary smooth muscle is proposed to be mainly caused by a receptor-mediated hydrolysis of phosphatidylinositol-4,5-bisphosphate.     

Migration of lymphoid cells to the bone marrow of rat following eradication of cells in DNA synthesis and in mitosis

Summary Eradication of replicating bone marrow cells of rat by means of combined administration of single doses of hydroxyurea and vinblastin is followed within 9–10 h by an inflow of lymphoid cells of extramedullary origin in the range of 13,200,000/femur. The rat bone marrow with a high content of lymphoid cells was previously shown to be concentrated in stem cells. The factor(s) which convey the information of decrease of replicating marrow cells to extramedullary sites is at present unknown.Acknowledgment. Variations of testosterone uptake by gonadotropic cells of the adenohypophysis of the rat

Testosterone (T) could be detected by immunocytochemistry after cryoultramicrotomy and T is likely bound on a binding site of a high affinity. Castration and adrenalectomy involve a swift disappearance of T in the gonadotropic cells. Synthesis of new binding sites was induced by daily T injection in the castrated and surrenalectomized Rat from 90 days. This synthesis is inhibited by cycloheximide. These data suggest that binding sites are proteins. The captation of T by the gonadotropic cells was diminished similarly at the diminution of T, afterwards, T captation was stabilized at a weak level which became stable for several weeks. It seems that immunocytochemistry permits the study of the variation of T captation by Rat pituitary gonadotropic cells.
