Along with the rapid development of global economy, numerous colorful and fantastic English advertisements appear in current markets. Through careful analysis we can find that English advertisements have formed their own linguistic features. The designers usually employ the special lexis, syntax and rhetorical devices to make their advertisement a concise, lively and appealing one. Nowadays, educators from home and abroad believe that learning a foreign language means learning a great deal of the foreign civilization and culture. And the utmost goal of language teaching is to cultivate EFL learners’communicative competence, but not merely the linguistic knowledge. Thus, teaching a foreign language is more than teaching new words, expressions and grammar rules, but should also incorporate the target culture elements into language knowledge. In order to improve EFL learners’English proficiency, teachers must make efforts to cultivate EFL learners’intercultural competence and promote their sensibility and adaptability to the differences between Chinese culture and the Western culture. Only by doing so, can EFL learners communicate with native speakers appropriately and smoothly. Cultural connotation and denotative meaning of plant terms in English and Chinese are of great signification in research.It is advisable to do the research from the following four aspects:a.plant terms with similar cultural connotation in English and Chinese;b.plant terms with different cultural connotation in English and Chinese;c.gaps of lexical plant terms in English and Chinese;d.peculiarity of plant terms in English and Chinese.It can be see clearly through the contrast and analysis of plant terms in these two languages that plant terms in any language are not only the symbol of that plant.Cultural differences have left a deep cultural marking on plant terms,making these words very rich in cultural connotation.So we should make great effort in understanding their cultural connotation in order to have a good command of these words.  相似文献

Singapore is a multi-cultural and multi-lingual society with four different major languages (Chinese,English,Malay and Tamil). Each language or dialect exerts its influence on the way English is spoken. It is too difficult to maintain the purity of English. Second language acquisition is a broad topic.Therefore,I narrow it into those of cross linguistic influence.I choose copular usage for my focus of study because both Mandarin Chinese and English share this grammatical morpheme.To what extent do Copulas behave similarly between languages? This facilitates positive transfer of the first language(L1) features into the second language(L2) as Eric Kellerman(1986) observed that learners have intuitions about which language features they can transfer from their first language to the target language and which are less likely to be transferable.He further proposed that learners have a sense of what features in their L1 are in some way basic.They are more prepared to risk transferring such features than they are those they perceive to be unique to their own language.The copula is a very basic grammatical morpheme as it carries most conjugated forms.Therefore,in this dissertation,I am going to examine how Chinese Shi functions as an English copula and how it influences copular sentences in English writing.  相似文献
