Alkaloid studies XXV. The structure of the Aspidosperma alkaloids cylindrocarpine and cylindrocarpidine

Zusammenfassung Die Strukturaufklärung von Cylindrocarpin (II) und Cylindrocarpidin (IV) zeigt, dass diese zwei Alkaloide die ersten Mitglieder der Aspidosperminfamilie (I) sind, in denen eine sauerstoffhaltige Seitenkette anstatt der gewöhnlichen C-5-Äthylgruppe vorliegt.

Zusammenfassung Aus Ajmalin-Mutterlaugen vonRauwolfia serpentina Benth. ist ein weiteres Isomeres des Yohimbins isoliert worden. Das Alkaloid besitzt zwei verschiedene Kristallformen, wovon die höher schmelzende in ihren Eigenschaften weitgehend dem Ajmalinin gleicht. Spektren und Derivate werden beschrieben.

Zusammenfassung Auf Grund von Protonresonanz und massenspektrometrischen Messungen sowie durch direkte Verbindung mit Pyrifolin (II) wird für dasAspidosperma-Alkaloid Aspidofilin die Struktur III vorgeschlagen.

Na-demethyl-purpeline and Na-demethyl-dihydropurpeline,new alkaloids fromRauwolfia cumminsii stapf

Summary N_a-demethyl-purpeline and N_a-demethyl-dihydropurpeline, new indole alkaloids, were isolated from the stem bark of Rauwolfia cumminsii Stapf. Dihydroindole alkaloids have not previously been reported as occurring in this species.

Zusammenfassung Ausser den bekannten Alkaloiden Ulein (I), Apparicin (II), Demethylaspidospermin (III), Yohimbin (IV) und-Yohimbin (V) wurde noch ein unbekanntes Alkaloid aus der Rinde vonAspidosperma pyricollum Muell.-Arg. isoliert, dessen Struktur als 19-Dehydroyohimbin (VI) chemisch sowie spektroskopisch bewiesen wurde.

Biochemical studies on peptide alkaloids: Induction of ion selective mitochondrial swelling

Summary The effect of frangulanine, a cyclopeptide alkaloid isolated fromHovenia dulcis Thunb., on mitochondrial swelling was studied. Frangulanine induced mitochondrial swelling in 0.15 M KCl solution at the concentration of 6.5 M. The alkaloid showed ion selectivity on the induction of mitochondrial swelling. Upon addition of frangulanine, mitochondria underwent swelling in 0.15 M KCl or RbCl solution but in neither NaCl nor LiCl solution.

Zusammenfassung Die schonende Reindarstellung von 4 kokarzinogenen Phorbolestern aus Krotonöl gelingt bereits nach 3 konsekutiven Trennoperationen (O'Keeffe-Gegenstromverteilung, Adsorptionschromatographie, Craig-Verteilung), deren Ausführung präzis beschrieben wird.     

The isolation and structure of 13,18-dehydroglaucarubinone,a new antineoplastic quassinoid fromSimarouba amara

Summary An investigation of the Guyana plantSimarouba amara Aubl. (Simaroubaceae) for antineoplastic quassinoids led to isolation and structural determination of the new quassinoids 2-acetylglaucarubine (1a) and 13,18-dehydroglaucarubinone (2). The previously known 2-acetylglaucarubinone (3a) and glaucarubinone (3b) were also obtained. Zusammenfassung Die Strukturaufklärung von zwei neuen tryptophanhaltigen Peptiden im Schlangengift vonAgkistrodon halys blomhoffii ergeben:l-Pyroglutamyl-l-Glutaminyl-l-Tryptophan undl-Pyroglutamyl-l-Asparaginyl-l-Tryptophan. Diese Peptide sind in Schlangengiften der Viperidae- und Crotalidae-Arten verbreitet.

Zusammenfassung Für ein neues glukosidisches Indolalkaloid ausAdina rubescens wird anhand instrumental-analytischer Untersuchungen die Struktur von 5-Oxostrictosidin vorgeschlagen.     

Negotiating history: Contingency,canonicity, and case studies

Objections to the use of historical case studies for philosophical ends fall into two categories. Methodological objections claim that historical accounts and their uses by philosophers are subject to various biases. We argue that these challenges are not special; they also apply to other epistemic practices. Metaphysical objections, on the other hand, claim that historical case studies are intrinsically unsuited to serve as evidence for philosophical claims, even when carefully constructed and used, and so constitute a distinct class of challenge. We show that attention to what makes for a canonical case can address these problems. A case study is canonical with respect to a particular philosophical aim when the features relevant to that aim provide a reasonably complete causal account of the results of the historical process under investigation. We show how to establish canonicity by evaluating relevant contingencies using two prominent examples from the history of science: Eddington’s confirmation of Einstein’s theory of general relativity using his data from the 1919 eclipse and Watson and Crick’s determination of the structure of DNA.

Les déplacements méthoxyliques permettent de décider si l'on a affaire à des éléments flavanoïdes liées 6, ou 8. Le contrôle enzymique de la production de bisflavones dans le genreAuraucariaceae est démontré.     

Stereochemistry of corydaline and related alkaloids

Zusammenfassung Die stereochemische Zuordnung des Alkaloids Corydalin gelang auf Grund von konformationsanalytischen und spektroskopischen Daten. Grundsätzliche Überlegungen, unter Berücksichtigung gewisser chemischer Beziehungen, erlauben die stereochemische Zuordnung für Corybulbin, Isocorybulbin, Base II, Thalictracavin und Thalictrofolin.
