Thiazoline carboxylic acid from formylcysteine

Riassunto La formilcisteina in HCl 12N dà un assorbimento nell'ultravioletto indicante la formazione di un anello tiazolinico. La reazione è più rapida per la formilcisteina che per il glutatione e dipende dalla concentrazione dell'acido. Trattando la formicilsteina con HCl 12N, è stato preparato un composto avente le proprietà dell'acido tiazolin carbossilico, che in soluzione di fosfati a pH 7,4 dà una curva spettrofotometrica sovrapponibile a quella ottenuta in un precedente lavoro da un metabolita dell'acido tiazolidin carbossilico. Questo risultato avvalora l'ipotesi che il fegato di ratto è capace di ossidare l'anello tiazolidinico a tiazolinico.     

Pyrrolidone carboxylic acid (pyroglutamic acid) in normal plasma

Zusammenfassung Wir isolierten und identifizierten Pyrrolidoncarbonsäure als einen Bestandteil des normalen Plasmas. Im menschlichen und Meerschweinchenplasma war die Konzentration 0,22 bezw. 0,33 mole/ml.

Syntheses of amino acids from unsaturated aliphatic carboxylic acid by contact glow discharge electrolysis

Summary Hydroxy amino acids are synthesized from unsaturated aliphatic carboxylic acid using aqueous ammonia under conditions of contact glow discharge electrolysis.This work was supported partly by a grant from the Ministry of Education.     

The antilipolytic effects of 3,5-dimethylisoxazole and possible carboxylic acid metabolites

Zusammenfassung Von allen möglichen Isoxazolcarbonsäurenstoffwechselprodukten von 3,5-Dimethylisoxazol (3,5-DMI), die untersucht wurden, war nur die 3-Methylisoxazol-5-carbonsäure wirksam genug, um die auffallende Wirkung von 3,5-DMI auf unveresterte Fettsäurespiegel in normalen Hunden zu erklären.     

Morphological differentiation of neuroblastoma by 1 methyl cyclohexane carboxylic acid (CCA) and some C1 derivatives]

We describe the induction of neuroblastoma morphological differentiation by 1 methyl cyclohexane carboxylic acid (CCA) and by some C1 derivatives of CCA. This induction proceeds in a medium which allows, in the absence of inducer, a normal growth of neuroblastoma cells and contains 7.5% fetal Calf serum. In order to establish a clear-dose response relationship and to compare the relative potencies of different drugs, the morphological changes were assessed by examining "long neurite-bearing cells".     

Testosterone and methyltestosterone from hyodesoxycholic acid

Zusammenfassung Der Hauptbestandteil der Gallenflüssigkeit des Schweines, Hyodesoxycholsäure, wurde in die männlichen Geschlechtshormone Testosteron und Methyltestosteron überführt. Es wird eine modifizierte Oppenauer-Oxydation beschrieben, bei der Aluminiumoxyd an Stelle des gebräuchlichen Alkoxyd-Katalysators verwendet wird.     

Pseudomonic acid derivatives from a marine bacterium

The spongeDarwinella rosacea was found to harbor a host of marine microorganisms. One of these bacteria was identified as a marineAlteromonas species. The organic extract of this bacterium was antimicrobial, and the activity was traced to two novel pseudomonic acid derivatives1 and7. The structures of these compounds were elucidated by interpretation of the spectral data and extensive use of 2-dimensional NMR techniques and NOE studies on the parent compounds and the acetate derivatives2 and8.     

Ouabain-sensitive fatty acid release from isolated fat cells

Résumé La mobilisation des acides gras libres (FFA) induite par les hormones lipolytiques dans les cellules adipeuses isolées est inhibée par l'adjonction d'ouabaÏne. Le transport des FFA hors de la cellule semble lié en partie à la pompe Na⁺-K⁺. Une hypothèse sur le mode d'action de l'ouabaÏne est discutée.

Photodynamic studies on acid ribonuclease from pea cotyledons

Summary In crude extracts, pea cotyledon acid ribonuclease is not inactivated by photodynamic treatment, but after 150-fold purification it is markedly inactivated when illuminated in the presence of rose bengal at pH 7.1. Data suggests that histidine photo-oxidation reduces catalytic activity.     

Tetrapyrrole biosynthesis from 4,5-dioxovaleric acid inRhodopseudomonas spheroides

Summary Porphyrin biosynthesis from 4,5-dioxovaleric acid was studied in cell suspensions ofR. spheroides. The experiments show that 4,5-dioxovaleric acid is a far precursor of porphyrins through amino laevulinic acid formation in a transamination reaction involving also 1-alanine. It differs radically from the classical aminolaevulinic acid synthesis using glycine and succinyl CoA as substrates.Acknowledgments: The authors are indebted to Dr Rodolfo García for helpful discussions and criticisms. Synthesis of symmetrically labeled acetic acid from BaCO3

Zusammenfassung Es wird eine Methode beschrieben, mit deren Hilfe sich aus BaCO₃ Essigsäure herstellen läßt, die C¹³ oder C¹⁴ symmetrisch als « tracer » enthält: BaCO₃ wird zunächst zu BaC₂ reduziert. Hierfür wird BaCO₃ in einer kleinen Kugel mit Magnesiumpulver gemischt und ge preßt und dann in reiner Wasserstoffatmosphäre auf 700–750° erhitzt. Das resultierende Karbid (BaC₂) wird langsam mit Wasser zersetzt und damit Azetylen gewonnen. Das Azetylen wird mit Hilfe von mit Kaliumhydroxyd durchtränktem Asbest auf 250° erhitzt, wobei sich Kaliumazetat bildet. Dieses Kaliumazetat in Asbest wird in Schwefelsäure suspendiert. Durch Destillation erhält man Essigsäure. Die Ausbeute beträgt etwa 60–80%.
